That is a scary 6 forwards to pick from for them now.

    I’m not so sure.

Firmino will leave at the end of the season and Salah is finally looking to be slowing down albeit still a very good player.

Nunez has become a joke figure and Gakpo, well, who knows, but there are several high profile players from the Dutch league that have come here and flopped quite badly.

Diaz - looks to be a good player. Jota, good player but not world class. I wouldn’t fear facing him.

It’s a good front 6, but it’s no Mane, Salah and Firmino 2/3 years ago.

They also have Thiago and Henderson who aren’t getting any younger.

I don’t know, they’re still a very good team, but maybe they’ll fade a bit over the next couple of years.

Apparently spending another 100m on a player. Can someone explain to me how they havent breached FFP? As that takes their spending to almost 400m?

Not even city have spent that much in a season

No, and City, to be fair to them, move players on quite regularly for decent sums of money.

This kind of spending is beyond the pale. I don’t know how they’re managing it and I hope their house of cards comes crashing down (it most likely won’t).

Watkins is probably the fittest player in the league and he's quick enough but he's not in the same pace bracket as say Bailey, Sarr, Walker etc.

I’d like to see him in a foot race with Bailey. Bet there isn’t much in it.

  4. We won’t get Europe. We have dropped too many points against the lesser sides under Gerrard. We should have beaten Forest, Bournemouth and Leeds away, and then we’d have been in with a shout.

I just think we’re too far behind and it would take an epic run, the kind where the grim reaper is visiting 4/5 doors at a time, to get near the top 7. No reason we can’t finish in the top 10 with Emery though. That needs to be our aim before an all out assault next season!

God, are we going to have to dig out that compilation of Ings and Watkins missing 17,892 chances put on a plate by Buendia again?

Pffft, say what you like, he’s still the weak link in our side. I’m hoping we sign better in Jan and really kick on.

  6. I watched them against Everton and they were very poor at the back. Admittedly, it’s the only time I’ve seen them play this season properly but off the back of that, I fancy us to score a couple.

Yet your logic for starting Coutinho is ? ( he did nothing wrong in his cameo but reaching for theatrics if you say he was outstanding ) So you want to start a player who the masses would argue has played worse than Buendia for sometime now based on the fact he “ might “ still have it.

I’d play McGinn, Ramsey, Bailey and Coutinho ahead of Buendia. I think Buendia is the weak link in our side and wouldn’t be surprised to see him further down the pecking order come February.

He’s too slow, too weak and very careless in possession. I think Coutinho is a far better footballer and whilst he struggled under Gerrard, I don’t remember him being any worse than Buendia who was also poor (you can throw Bailey into the mix too).

Our players are starting to look good again now, playing in a proper system, I just don’t think Buendia has the attributes to help us push on. If he hadn’t of scored today, it would have been a toss up between him and Bailey being our worst player. He was really poor in particular in the first half.

    Emi was excellent today

He was comfortably our worst player in the first half and arguably the worst player on the pitch. He was far from ‘excellent’.

I've never really understood some of the abuse that's come his way. Every manager we have had since his arrival has played him. I've never heard a fellow professional criticize his game. I think that speaks for itself.

I just don’t think he’s a central midfielder at this level. He plays almost as a second striker for Scotland and seems to be playing better for us in a wider position.

It’s not rocket science though. His attributes lend themselves to having a bit more space and facing the opposition goal rather than receiving the ball in tight spaces facing your own defence.

I still think we need to improve on him but he’s a real asset as a squad player and hell, who’s to say he can’t make that right midfield spot his own!

Romero and Lenglet will have nightmares for weeks after that. Brilliant assist as well

Bullied them time and time again under the high ball. He has a good knack of leaning into the defenders and stealing the ball off them when they miss the first header.

Yeah agreed, we should sell (Terminate loans) before we buy.
Jan is an awful time to buy. Players are settled, players are overvalued due to the World cup.

Are you saying Enzo Fernandez is overrated at £105m?
