I think JulieB pasted some tweet earlier that Villa and Wigan would've finished the deal, and N'Zogbia would be coming for medical and negotiating his own contract to Bodymoor Heath at coming weekend.

if McLeish thinks we'd manage with the young players, he's clearly bonkers, sure, ManUtd did it in the mid 90s, but their crop of the youngsters were -exceptional-, and I don't think ours is good enough with exception of Albrighton and perhaps Delph or Bannan but I wouldn't that much responsibility on their shoulders, at least not yet.

At least it's now in out and open how Whelan has dealed with this one, especially that he had made a 'gentlemen agreement' with the player that he would be sold for 9 million, maybe that makes people a bit more wary of dealing with him in the future.

There are probably other suitable targets with less or equal than 14 million, if that is right. Villa should bid on Vargas, Adam Johnson, Kranjcar, Shaqiri or maybe Simon Vukcevic?

I am probably one of the most optimist Villafans in this forum, and even I am starting to doubt that we'd buy anyone in this transfer window. It'll be miracle if we even buy N'Zogbia.

I've been watching football since 1990, and curiously age when goalkeepers are at their best has risen from the mid 20s-late20s to early 30s-late 30s.

I agree wholeheartedly that we need third winger, if not even third and fourth, be it/them N'Zogbia or someone else. There should be two players for each position in case of injuries, suspension and need for rotation.

Unless I remember wrong, in the second last match of the season 09-10 against Man City when they scored after Carew hit the bar, Warnock lost the ball, and just slowly walked and watched next to the goal as City player scored - didn't even run to the goal line to prevent ball going in, and that's why I don't want him playing, no fighting-spirit.

I think Villa should definitely buy N'Zogbia even if we don't sell Downing, I vividly remember watching last three-four seasons when we didn't quite make it because players were so tired at last two months of the season because MON never rotated. Keep Downing, and rotate more and less N'Zogbia, Albrighton, Ireland and Downing on attacking midfield/wings.
