Drowned Computer Salvage

Recommended Posts

Got an 09 Macbook which didn't take well to half a pint of lemon squash.

Just taken the SATA drive out, Maplin are doing a USB 3 dock for 25 notes in store.

Removing the drive has opened up access to the memory chips.

Should I take them out too? Or is it not a good idea/worth the risk?

Ta in advance.

Whatever you do, just make sure you're grounded or wearing the wrist strap. It's bad enough opening it up regularly but with water involved, one little burst of static is all it takes.

Why not? The worst that can happen is you try them in a new machine and it doesn't boot. So you take them out and throw them away. May as well give it a shot. If they're not visibly damaged/sticky, they're not going to knacker a new system board, it just won't work. If you can see any marks to suggest that it's been touched by liquid then yeah, don't bother.

Edit: Just realised when the last reply was, this post is probably not very useful at this point. :P
