The link above BBC doesn't have a URL in it, it's still set as example.co.uk

I've fixed it in post and it now works and is unhidden

What we need to know is how you managed to do that without the URL being associated with the text. Did you replicate the process to create the above post or did you copy and paste from the original post?

BBC

What does the above link to?

I fell foul of this last week. The link I pasted in is:

BBC News - General election: Labour would need record swing to win - BBC News
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-67361138

But it seems just to link back to this post. I'm confused.

Just post the link and an extract. There's no need to do any more than that.

That's what I did (I think...)

1. Copy some text from the relevant website

2. Paste it in VT in a quote box (so far, so good)

3. Copy the URL from the source page (using the 'share' icon)

4.  Open the link dialogue box in VT

5. Paste in the first field (looks correct)

6. Type 'BBC' (or whatever) in the second field

7. Save

I've done this many hundreds of times, and it's always worked. Suddenly, I find it's linking back to itself - and I end up in VT jail.

Is it due to the BBC link having that extra text before the start of the URL proper? (Although this is not a new thing).

Don't open the "link dialogue box", just past the link using "paste without formatting" or" paste as plain text" or ctrl+shift+v.

It hasn’t.  I’ve fixed links in your posts in the (recent) past that had the same problem. It’s harder to do what you did/do than to do it right.
