2000 cup final defeat was the moment we slipped from being a pretty established top 6 team (like Spurs are in the present day) to just also rans and bar a few decent years at start of Lerner/MON we've remained that ever since and can't really grasp some of the good opportunities that present itself. Losing 4-2 at home to Leicester in a game we were leading twice when we had the chance that day to go above Chelsea and Liverpool is pretty much a textbook example.

As much as Ellis gets endless stick for not pushing us on in the 90s that was a decade where we still won stuff, had some good european runs and were a top end premier league team so it was a lot better than what we've served up since.

As I've said elsewhere we need to be a bit more demanding. At this point in the season it's still realistic to finish 8th-9th rather than 13-14th which isn't going to keep our better players engaged in the long term. Dosen't mean we should be throwing tantrums if we can't beat Arsenal but at same time just accepting 3 wins from last 15 games or a similar run in to last season isn't good enough as it just repeats the cycle of mediocrity.
