What you mean is, considering the scenario of wanting Carlo and getting Wally: It's akin to expecting a PS3 for Christmas and ending up with a ferret being shoved up your arse. I have to keep believing that Ancelotti is an option. I can't face the prospect of accepting that McLaren is one of the favourites. Its akin to expecting a PS3 for Christmas and ending up with a Sinclair Spectrum 48K.

You're probably right, but I think people are clutching at straw with regards to McClaren too. I don't know about that. To be honest, Carlo was always out of our league. Steve seems to be the more realistic candidate. I'm sure I read somewhere that Randy actually favours him. There's also the fact that the board may refuse to listen to the fans and stick with their decision like they did with Houllier. A very foolish thing to do. The fans buy tickets and merchandise and if Lerner appoints a dud again then he will reap what he sows.

We can live in hope. A lot of the other options are very depressing and the past season was depressing enough so until the vacancy is filled I would rather delude myself that Ancelotti is still an option than face the thought of McLaren or Hughes or Rafa or some of the other poll options.

I hope you are right about Ancelotti as I backed him at 33/1 last Wednesday.

Deschamps has signed a 2 year extension to his contract at Marseille. McClaren is a no and some ITK have ruled him out, I also cant see the club upsetting so many fans. Coyle, Lambert and Martinez all too inexperianced and will need more time with their respected clubs. Jol has gone to Chelsea.. Benitez was ruled out in the Independant Newspaper as he wanted too much control(I think) This leaves Moyes but still tied down. And Rijkaard available .. Other than that it could be name NOBODY has mentioned? Jol will be busy managing Chelsea as well as Fulham.

Hate to admit it but I was listening to Talkshite on the way home today and one of their presenters was saying that Villa fans are deluded and we need a reality check if we think we are big enough to attract the likes of Ancelotti. He was basically saying that we are only good enough to get the likes of McLaren. Worse than this was his talk of MON coming back to VP and even worse than this was a couple of idiotic Villa fans who rang in to say that they would have him back. One of the plonkers didn't even know where we finished during the last few seasons under MON and said we finished 5th so he is clearly a casual fan. There are some real kretins out there.

From what I can see players of note that he bought include Rivaldo, Tomasson, Nesta, Seedorf, Kaka, Stam, Crespo, Jankulovski, Cafu, Ronaldo, Oddo, Pato, Zambrotta, Flamini, Ronaldinho, Beckham. for all them great players he signed he won 1 league title and 2 Champions League in 8 years at Milan. Not that great a record I guess that is pretty crap compared to the **** all that we have won since 1996 under the managers we have employed.
