Fantastic result but trying to be objective , it was a terrible performance to be honest. Great to see luck swing our way for a change though. However , I am sorry but we need to do better than Petrov as our playmaker in midfield , especially under Houllier who likes to build from the back. The game completely passed him by except for a few nice passes early in the first half. Reo Coker and Petrov as our CM pairing is just not good enough imo. Luke young is an absolute nightmare defensively , he was bailed out so many times by Cuellar i lost count. He chose the wrong pass on many occasions putting us under pressure by losing possession. I am beginning to see why MON , a defensively solid manager did not like him as much. More composure is needed from the players who are quickly having to adapt to this drastic change in style.This nervousness on the ball and panic under any kind of pressure from the opposition players needs to go. Warnock was poor again , as he has been for a while now. Heskey , Cuellar , Young , Downing , Albrighton(first half) all had good games , especially Cuellar , my choice for mom. He was immense defensively.

Anti Houllier brigade are out before he has even started here. Cheap appointment my arse , he is a well respected and internationally acclaimed coach who , incidentally, was first choice for Wolfsburg before they appointed McLaren , after Houllier turned them down. Google it up. He was interested in this job because it is Aston Villa , a club of pedigree. It is laughable how some think we have signed some football outcast who nobody wants instead of a good European coach who has had top Jobs with real big European clubs , you don't get em if you are shite. I am out of here , I must be living in a parallel world for the last 10 years to thin Houllier is really good , you know , to have managed clubs like Lyon and Liverpool(among top 10 clubs in Europe) and be a part of the UEFA technical team. Hate the Catholic church , not Catholics. Catholics , Protestants , Pentecostals , Lutherans and whatever other sect/creed out there are all the same. The difference is the fact that Catholicism and the Pope are the most visible symbol of Christianity and therefore are easy targets. You cannot make a distinction between the crazies , they are all doing the exact same thing , trying to convince the world that their sect/creed/whatever is the real deal and the others are all cults/fake religions etc etc. As far as I am concerned , the worst of the lot are the Evangelicals(?) , the ones that have an obligation to try and indoctrinate any 'non - christian heathen' they come across, these lot are the ones I hate most. I wouldn't mind a defensive approach as long as it is possession based and not about hoofing. When you have the ball for long periods of the game , your opponent has fewer opportunities for attacking play. Making teams chase the ball will make their players tire out quicker , opening opportunities for incisive counter attacks ala Germany to finish the opposition.

Really can't see that happening to be honest, NRC is probably our least technically gifted player. I'm looking forward to seeing if Houllier can get us playing a more expansive type of game. I agree , Reo Coker is not best suited for a team trying to play an expansive game . The 'front sweeper' position is a critical cog in the machinery of teams who play possession and movement based passing football. There are two interpretations of that position. 1) An out and out defensive midfielder with adequate technical ability to release the ball quickly and play it short to more creative players so as to not lose position. Javier Mascherano , Makalele , Diarra , Toure Yaya , these are the players I am talking about. Reo Coker does not have the attributes to play the above role effectively and GH will soon discover for himself if he hasn't already. 2) A deep lying playmaker , effectively a creative midfielder with excellent range of passing and craft occupying a position which is much nearer to the defense so as to able to receive the ball deep and start attacks and control the play and general movement around him. You need to very , very good with your passing and also have the ability to influence the pace of the game. There are very few of these players around and highly valued (Pirlo , Alonso , Xavi , Cambiasso etc) I am sure GH is not crazy enough to even consider Reo Coker for that position. Where does he play? Does he add to the midfield or actually make it weaker and make Petrov less effective as a result. NRC thinks of himself as a box to box player which he is not , neither is he an attacking midfielder. I don't even know what his bes position is to be honest. And in any case , the 3 man centyral midfield is pretty much standard in europe these days and I expect GH to use it. What is needed is a player who can play that disciplined role in front of the defence while Petrov and Ireland do their thing in front. A 2 man midfield is best suited for a direct counter attacking style.

Reo Coker will need a lot of impressing to do to retain his position in the first 11.
