it also doesnt specify not. I would also find it very odd but the current wording says drinks are included and maybe it isnt actually the worst priced initiative weve seen from villa.

Given the speed of most of clubs bars for 3.5 hrs = 3 drinks. This is the Villa way.

He seemed to get two yellow cards for separate incidents in the last few minutes against palace but the ref didn’t give him a red with the second. Did anyone else notice this? It looked odd.

Yeah I thought it was odd, assumed the first one must have been Bailey or whoever was next to him at the time.

What is so good about him is that he really can play all 3 positions behind a main striker. Left right or as a 10 or second striker. Watched a few more vids this morning and he really does have it all. He isnt all that bad defending either . Seems that his teams built their team to leave him as an attacker as he is so lethal. His right foot is incredible as well which is so rare for left footers. That disallowed goal on saturday  . The way he controlled it and then just swept it in so effortlessly with his right  . Then you add in his crossing ability which is completely elite and he has potential to be a 15 goal 15 assist player over a long successful season. Best 51 million we have ever spent 🤣🤣

He’s very good so sorry to nitpick and don’t think it massively matters but I do think he’s bad at defending. When we signed him it was labelled as a weakness and backed up by the stats where he made 1 tackle every 2 games in Germany. I’ve been watching that aspect of his play and I’m not sure he’s made a successful tackle for us yet in 5 games.

He's an engaging person to listen to, is intelligent (even if spouting bile) and rarely flustered so I can see why people flock to him.

One of my loose friends was very much a person of sound mind and equality etc.  Wouldn't know his political standing, but I'd say he was certainly economically liberal.  He started to link quite a lot of Jordan B videos and talk about how this guy knew what he was talking about.  You all know where it went - he became a climate denier, homophobic, anti-vax, anti-trans, anti-woke et al.

Exactly same thing happened to one my friends. He’s gone completely mad where you can really have a conversation with him anymore.

Basing that on the long run where Watkins just runs straight in front of him without making a move for like 40 yards? He was waiting for Watkins, then after it was too late Watkins moved and the pass to Diaby wasn't on anymore so he went on his own.

Yeah Watkins definitely screwed him over there. VERY early days but does look like he can be a bit myopic at times. Made all the more clear by being on the same pitch as Diaby who makes a good decision 9/10 times. That said Zaniolo seems much more of a direct threat so its good to have different kinds of attacking options. Be interesting to see him on the left. Feel its difficult for him to shoot when playing on left which seems to be one of his main strengths.

Overall I thought it was a very encouraging first start. Clearly got the tools to be successful in this league.

There's a woman who understands pain.

    Giving birth to that head😲

Keep seeing that he is being abused by the media but I’ve not seen anything other than the odd pundit saying they don’t think he should be playing. Isn’t that their job.

Such a weird thing to do to make this into such a big issue. What an odd hill to choose to die on. I swear all England managers go mad in the end.

How he says "it's to enjoy the way" after 0:47... I'm charmed. Head over heels for him.

You’ve never seen a man so giddy with the thought of watching 5hrs of HSK Zrinjski Mostar videos.

I never thought I’d meet someone who clearly loves football more than me but I have to admit defeat.

  8. He says he’s never seen a player being treated by the media before. That might be true. But has a player ever been consistently in the England team without playing for their club for this long. I’d argue that’s also unprecedented and would be an interesting follow up question for any journalist who cared to call Southgate on his own BS.

A 13 year old me sat in the tennis courts pub in Perry Barr for the cup final in 1996 proudly exclaimed "get Savo off the pitch he's crap" about 30 seconds before he scores a screamer.

People didn't even celebrate they just turned round and looked at me.

A mate of mine came with me to a game when we were about 15. It’s was an evening game in a cup and he gave Gary Charles dogs abuse the whole game. Up he steps to score the winner and then suddenly some really short guy with a mullet who is leathered launches through the crowd to try and beat up my mate (who is a child!). Had to get dragged away, he was seething. Didn’t look like a relation.

Was a very odd couple of minutes.

Lack of Tyrone Mings. Ezri and Pau just aren't the aerial duel winning type.

It’s interesting because our players have made me realise how different a skill it is heading the ball in both boxes. I’d argue both Konsa and Torres are better at attacking the ball from corners but Mings was a monster in our own box. His positioning was (feel like I should also say IS) so good. The ball seemed to be drawn towards him like a magnet and his height and strength did the rest.

Our play style didn't do him any favours today. That line against Salah, Diaz and Nunez with Trent pinging balls over the top was insane.

Yeah it’s an interesting choice to play a high line AND give opposition all the time they want to pick a through ball. I am sure it won’t be repeated. Emery isn’t an idiot.

One of the worst defensive displays you'll see, from him today. He's needs to get up to speed, and sharpish, because he looks slow and weak, with bad positioning.

Unfortunately not much to disagree with here. A very bad day at the office on and off the ball.

I’d say it was a welcome to the PL type of game but he already had that against Newcastle.

    I'm just sad man 😭

I'm a 36 year old man from Halesowen.

I remember the 94 team as my earliest Villa team.

In that time, we've never had anyone with the prestigious name that Coutinho has brought.

We've had good players over the years, players that have come and done a much better job on a like-for-like basis, but we've never had anyone approaching Balon d'Or territory, Champs League winning territory or being an important player for Brazil, with actual samba flair.

He was 30 when he came.  He should have been in his pomp.  And his first 5/6 games had me feeling like we'd somehow recovered this magical little guy.

I'm sad for him, that he must be feeling as though his best days are behind him.  I'm sad we didn't get to see the best of him.  I'm sad because we're losing that little Brazilian number 10 who I'd never thought would come to Villa.

I've been absolutely desperate for him to come good.  I've been ignoring his poor games, like Stevenage in the cup where I was championing him to my father in law who'd never been to a football match before.  He ballooned about 8 shots from 30 yards in that game.  I persuaded my 8 year old to have his name on his shirt last year, because of my silly manchild awe of him.

I'm really sad he'll leave without giving us one 30 yard screamer.

Good luck Phil, I guess 😔

I think we should call it the Tonev rule. If you are a player famous for scoring long range goals frequently you won’t be able to hit a barn door in a Villa shirt.

edit - didn’t Phil get one? And it was ruled offside wrongly. Also hit bar against City.

or more realistically the players we wanted to add weren't available or chose other clubs to join. Demebele joining PSG clearly scuppered the possibility of Torres joining. They were forced to sell Dembele instead basically.

Yes - been the story for a few consecutive windows now. Struggling to attract the big names. Still progress has been made but maybe not all at once as many were hoping. Need another season of Unai magic to keep the boat moving forward.

  15. On Monchi I'd guess a huge part of that position in any club is preparing the ground for one window to the next.

So its perhaps no surprise that coming in half way through a summer he isnt in the position in add much value and has really relied on players he already knows.

  16. Seems absolutley mad to go two windows now without signing an experienced support for Watkins. We have Duran who has potential etc but if Watkins is out for season I'd expect us to drop several places in the league as a result.

Been an interesting window, for sure added some quality. But still feel we are light if we are to go a long way in certain competitions.
