It looks bad, but what's he even done wrong in this clip? Does Twitter not realise that professional footballers typically don't just aimlessly run towards the ball if there's absolutely no way they're getting to it? Even if he starts dashing at Rice literally nothing changes, and I reckon you could pull up a bunch of similar clips for almost every midfielder.

Someone has to have the role of 'permanently injured bench-player' at all times at Villa. If Coutinho is leaving, it's a very savvy move to just straight up sign someone who already fits the bill on a free rather than having it end up be our £50m signing.

Villa really are trying their hardest to create a top midfield with as little money as possible: Kamara + Luiz + Ramsey + Tielemans + McGinn for £17.5m! We needed a midfielder given that Sanson and Nakamba were leaving this summer.

Villa are seemingly not that put off by the nature of the 'rejection' in January (imo defo feels like it was a 'wait until the summer') and have evidently been clearly in heavy contact for months now, given the well-substantiated claims that Villa even made a contract offer in Jan. Really think this one has legs.

And it's still not been officially announced despite being public knowledge for ages. It's that early in the window. On the other hand, it's been like a week and a half without football and absolutely nothing has happened. Sometimes I miss that 19/20 window.

It's so early in the transfer market (that it hasn't begun) that there are transfers out there that are publicly known to be done for months, such as Milner to Brighton, that haven't been officially announced yet. It's so early days that it's probably too early to say that it's early days.

The prior relationship in which Emery and Monchi enjoyed huge success can only be a good thing. I think Emery wanted Monchi at Arsenal, too.
