Tbf life as a footballer in Athens is pretty sweet from what I've heard.

Mellberg loved it at Olympiacos, and most Swedes who have played there have had only positive things to say.

The city is sports crazy, there is something like 7 daily newspapers who only covers sports.

The fans are crazy and will idolize you if you perform, then again Lescott if he acts like he did here will get absolutely slaughtered

If Lescott plays poorly for them and pulls some of his Twitter stunts, he'd better pray they buy him a trojan horse to live in

I have it on good authority that he is unlikely to available until around May time. We knew this but thought he would come in handy for the playoffs apparently!

*Checks date* It's not April 1st. Not sure if you're being serious but it seems very far fetched...

He's barely had a run of games at any point in the last 3 years. He needs half a season not 3 or 4 games.

My thinking was see how he does after one month, re-assess and if he needs more time then send him on another months loan and repeat. Just gives us the power with having the player available if there was a striker crisis.

That would be true in the Premier League (or any league) wouldn't it?

I get where he's coming from. The Championship tends to be quite bunched up and we've seen teams before that have been in the bottom half go on a run and finish in the play offs. Although yes you'd expect a significant climb in any league with 5 wins. You're both right! Happy Saturday.

  5. They've basically sold Bolasie and got Benteke in with very little difference in price. Superb business for Palace.

I still hope he will come home to Villa when we are back in the Premier League. How far can Palace really go as a club, can they meet his ambitions? I think we can with the new ownership. For now though, good luck Christian!

I disagree with your last sentence.

N'Zogbia was no where near as bad as Lescott in my opinion. Obviously quite difficult to compare them because of their positions but when Charles was a mainstay in the side we never rolled over like we did with Lescott in the team (for an entire season). Plus Lescott's conduct off the field when he claims to be a 'fan' cements him as the most disliked player I've seen in a Villa shirt for me.

  7. Lescott fails the medical - now there's a surprise - I could run quicker than him! He also fails at trying, defending and social media. He has however succeeded at being a class A bell end. Let him train on his own for the remainder of his contract and stick him on the bench for all the reserve games just so he has to turn up.

I'd also set up an additional 2 friendlies a week for the reserves so he has to go to those too. Worst signing we've made that I can remember, ever.

  8. Does anyone remember De Gea's first season at Man Utd? I seem to recall him having a bit of a shocker. Gollini is clearly a talent and has made some good saves. The good thing for me is he has got the easy stuff wrong so far, so it is totally fixable. It comes with experience. Imagine what a great keeper he could be for us in the next few years. I also think he is still adequate at this level right now and will learn from his mistakes. If we get a more experienced keeper they won't have as much room for improvement and for them to sign for Villa would mean that they are most likely not a top keeper - perhaps more solid now but long term it would be a waste.

Let's stick by Gollini. If young players can be a success here we'll be able to tap into the best young talents going forward. If they flop and don't play after a few errors, young players will think twice about coming to AVFC.

  9. I still think Lolley would be a good addition. We need another player who could play out wide and imagine how much he would give out on the field for us being a fan and all (yes I know Gabby is a fan and yes I know it turned pear shaped with him but he did have a huge desire to play his heart out once upon a time).

  10. What a great day. Solid at the back (even at full back with Aly and Leandro!?), clean sheet, controlled the game and created a lot of chances.

This is the first time in a long time that I felt togetherness was there from the top (Xia) to the players to the fans in a very long time.

It was just what the doctor ordered today. A huge confidence boost. If we bring in Jedinak/Ledley De Laet and Hernadez/Wells/Bamford we're surely serious contenders.

They are on the original lineup

Bunn, Okore, Richards, Amavi, Tshibola, Green, Grealish

Not much by way of an attacking option to change anything

    4-2-3-1 ?

This except Ayew is the AC and McCormack the AL, I think.
