21 and playing for Kidderminster. Something tells me he is anything but superb.

Sherwood didn't have spout some shit.

I hear what you're saying and think he wouldn't have been ready for the Villa first team in the next season or two. However some players we've released into the lower leagues have gone on to better things. Jamie Ward springs to mind when we let him go for free to Torquay. He'll be lining up against us next season for Forest and probably going to the Euros with Northern Ireland this summer.

  2. If we do have money to spend this summer between £20m and £50m I just hope we use it wisely. I don't want to see us go on a wild spree like QPR we need to be shrewd. Having the money to spend is a plus but only if we use it correctly. Those in charge need to be disciplined in finding the right characters and money can buy us those if we are smart. Before any signings are made I hope that behind the scenes standards for behaviour, attitude, work rate and team ethic/togetherness will be worked on otherwise an open chequebook policy will not lead us to success. I also want to see the youth players given plenty of chances.

Anyone heard of Samuel Langley? Maybe some of you but I'd guess not many.

Anyone heard of the Wright Brothers? Most of you I'd say.

Both wanted to be the first to achieve flight. Langley had support from the government and so much money to achieve it. He failed. The Wright brothers on a limited budget achieved it because they wanted it more and they had the right team and culture.

For Aston Villa this is critical to our success and the new guys coming on board have to understand this for success to happen. Obviously Leicester are a perfect example of this too. Leicester are the Wright brothers and Man City are Samuel Langley. We have to be the next Wright brothers if that makes any sense.

    Interesting video on Wright brothers vs Langley ;

  3. Anyone think he has a chance of a call up the the England squad for the friendlies? I think he deserves a chance personally. Any main stay in either the Leicester or Spurs squad this season who is English ought to get a chance in the friendlies at least.

  4. He is a real Roy of the rovers type player. I think he is a leader too - so hearing that he has got his head down and cut out drink etc I suspect has had a knock on effect on the other players.

Vardy and Kane up front in the Euros this summer is a really exciting prospect.

Big congrats to Premier League champion Marc Albrighton after being deemed not good enough for championship side Aston Villa.

Players are written off at Aston Villa far too early (blaming the coaching staff for this). Sometimes players take time to come good and just need that belief. I remember watching Kane for Spurs thinking he looked very poor and now look. I just hope in the future we keep hold of players longer and give them chances. For now though hats off to Marc Albrighton a really top guy with more desire and a better attitude than the entirety of our squad.

For sure. Given the choice I'd be going crazy on the Holte rather than in my living room though.

If you could have the choice of course, however if Spurs win tonight imagine the pressure in the next game - could easily lose or draw....then into a final day shootout where anything can happen. If Spurs draw tonight then Leicester will play with that bit more freedom in the next game.

Shame they're gonna be crowned champions sitting at home rather than in a stadium together.

    Sky Sports...

If this was us I wouldn't care one bit how we won it.

Or Leeds, Forest, or Wednesday in how not to turn things down and get weighed down, rather than inspired by, glories of the past.

Yes the board / new owners need to look at those too to prevent a scenario like that occurring.

07-08 for me was the best. Everything was on the up. For 75% of the 08-09 was great but we blew 4th, and although 09-10 was another great season (esp in the cups)  you could sense the storm clouds coming after the January window and the spanking at Chelsea. And since then it has largely been dogshite. Hence the regularity of this thread.

07-08 was class. I remember reading about having Nike kits and texting all my mates. I don't like Nike ethics now I'm a bit older but at the time it was a huge step to have a respected brand making our kits. Then with Acorns it was so unusual and brought about such good PR. The players we had were superb - Laursen and Mellberg at the back was incredible. We were so very close to cracking top 4 and cups. The feel good factor at Villa Park was special and THAT win over Small Heath Alliance. Remember when it was actually a challenge to get tickets at Villa Park? All those good times can come again though I still believe - we've only got to look at Southampton, Leicester and Bournemouth for examples of turning things around.

If that isn't a reason enough to crack open the single malt in a dark room on a Saturday night then nothing is.

It would be quite nice to actually look forward to see Villa play occasionally though wouldn't it? Like before 2010.

Our next sponsors could be "Just for men" "Bells Whisky" "Nurufen" or "Night Nurse" .. what do you reckon?

I really miss the euphoria between 06 till about 11. I know we were pants at the start of that period but optimism was high with everything going on off the field. In 11 we still splashed the cash and I felt we would rise to the top 6 area again. Sadly since then it really has been devastatingly bad to a point where a lot of us can't hurt any more. So we're just numb and another defeat doesn't really mean anything. Bloody hell I need a drink I feel like I'm Mark Corrigan from Peep Show and everything is just f*cked!

not quite true. Garde had never met him before he was hired but did say he was highlighted by his network.

I thought we got him because he can speak French. He was essentially redundant as soon as Garde said the players will communicate in English.

So is thread going to be open next season then?

Probably. I can see it now. No takeover, delayed manager choice and a manager we don't want and a squad lacking a spine and the right attitude still. If this happens we are down again IMO. This takeover is the catalyst for the changes needed so please bloody hurry up for the sake of the remainder of any Villa fans who haven't yet got grey hair.

He said he thought we were "outstanding today". Lost truely lost it??

Another puppet too scared to tell the media what he really thinks. Bet he pussyfoots around the players too. Would like to see him gone, not least because of his blues involvement.

I knew Id seen it somewhere.........this database approach ..........

Anyway, databases are used by loads of people, I just had it in my head that the 2 of them were a bit more 'sciencey' and a fair bit less 'go and watchy'.

    That's me done.

On databases they are used by loads of clubs. There is a company here in Birmingham called Scout 7 who are one of the service providers for many clubs in Europe. I've been lucky enough to see the back end (ooh er missus) of it, it's pretty impressive.

Are those players all meet to be home grown ? Because I count at least three that are not.

Yeah I know home grown is a grey area - like Crowley is technically home grown for Arsenal but we all know they nabbed him from us for their academy. I included the area ones mainly because I wanted Barry
