  1. Did you use that quote to back up the point you are making or did you kindly add it to support the point I am making? How is Liverpool's soul looking since Purslow sold the club to the current owners?
  2. That is probably one of his attributes that his tenure in Liverpool backs up, he is a smart man imo. But what I am trying to say with my comment is that suggestion that he didn't do, not just do a good job, but an outstanding job at Liverpool, is not understanding what his job was at Liverpool or not being able to see the link between the job he did at Liverpool and the footballing success that Liverpool are enjoying.
  3. Nice tactical change of wording from 'employ' to 'find' It would be very surprising if the club did not also seek outside advice from a consultancy company when looking to 'find' a new manager. This is normal work practice. But it is absolutely should be the CEO's job to make the final decision and employ them as they report into the CEO
  4. That's not my understanding. I am of the belief that Lange and SG both report to Purslow. Lange sets the football strategy and SG has to work to it with the players. Its the same as a CFO and CTO both reporting to the CEO. The CFO sets the budget and how and when money can be spent and the CTO must work to this
  5. I agree, but what footballing matter is he involved in? As CEO he needs to employ the manager. Just an aside, NSWE bought AVFC about 2 or 3 months prior to NSWE employing Purslow.
  6. Fans are very emotional and rarely ever see the big picture. When are those quotes from, I am guessing quite a while ago? Purslow was tasked with selling Liverpool FC, not to build a football team. He succeeded at his task. Furthermore, he sold Liverpool FC to its current owners who have just brought Liverpool through 4 or 5 years of outstanding success on the pitch while playing exciting football and lifting every trophy possible. I doubt those same fans are complaining now about the job he did at Liverpool FC
  7. Yes at Swansea, who were relegated from the Premier League the month prior to Potter's appointment and had maximum parachute payments after spending 7 seasons as a Premier League team. That sounds like a very low win % for a PL team dropping down to the Championship
  8. The manager reports into the CEO, he must be employed by the CEO. The CEO will/should take council from others at the club regarding the quality of the candidate. This is how senior positions in all business work
  9. I agree it doesn't mean it is not true but equally using it when you do not know whether it is true or not is unfair on CP and NSWE and just conjecture
  10. I know you don't agree with them and I don't want to go over the same ground, that is why I referred to it as the characteristics that Tro refers to. I also don't like your use of the word 'seduced' and it is not about seduction. It is making a judgement call based upon Gerrard's achievements and believing the risk is at an acceptable level. Your use of the word seduce is only trying to belittle the thought process behind it imo
  11. My reference to @Tro was just to help me avoid writing the same stuff again. It is not about been seduced, it is the characteristics that he mentions are characteristics that I think most of us would want to see in a manager. There is also the fact that he understand PL football as he was one of the best midfielders to play PL football and one of the best midfielders in the world. I understand this does not necessarily translate to being a good manager but they are positive signs. He had a few years in Scotland and transformed Rangers and stopped Celtic getting 10 in a row. Again, no guarantees he would be a success in the PL but the CV is starting to show quite a few things that would interest a club. Appointing SG was a risk and a risk that the club decided they are happy to take. If he works out then great and if he doesn't then we replace him and move on. There is nothing wrong with the CEO appointing a manager that doesn't work out, lots of CEOs do this every single year. Just look at Spurs.
  12. We all have different opinions and thought processes. Have you considered that NSWE may like what they saw in Gerrard the person, his mentality and attitude etc, the attributes that @TRO has posted about SG?
  13. Why do we need that? I suspect they are more concerned about actual success at Aston Villa rather than perception and nor do I think they get a kick out of bragging about what they are doing.
  14. The problem with that is there are 7 PL clubs in European competition and they wouldn't be able to play their 'catch-up' games and they will get pushed out.
  15. They said https://www.premierleague.com/news/2786560
  16. They can't cancel, it will be postponed. But when it is postponed to is the 64k$ question. They will, or at least should, want to have all teams having played about the same number of games. Having 3 or 4 games in hand is not good as we saw during Covid. To keep the teams having played the same amount of games and if the Saints game is postponed too, I can see these being replayed in 2023. The schedule is already packed for the teams competing in Europe
  17. With the WC, this season may be extended into June. Teams in European football already have an average of 2 games a week before the WC break
  18. I don't agree with the postponement of games but I fully understand the decision. It is surprising that some people don't understand why the games are postponed as a result of the death of the Queen who has reigned for over 70 years. I am not a royalist and being Irish I would have quite a few gripes with some of the decisions by the Royal family over the centuries but I can see that Queen Elizabeth II was a good person and gave an awful lot to her country and I respect that. Some of the comments on here are a little cheap. RIP
  19. Regardless of what we believe the reason for postponement, the official reason issued by the PL is that it is as a mark of respect and the government has stated that games do not need to be postponed. If it is deemed respectful to postpone games now, I can see how they may want to postpone games in or around the time of the funeral
  20. As they postpone this weekend it will be difficult not to postpone the games that are to take place in or around the time of the funeral

  22. They are all postponed this weekend. It is official
  23. All PL games postponed this weekend
  24. After the first game we don't win 5-0 with sexy attacking football the thread will be resurrected again.
