We had better opportunities to score before Leeds scored their first goal, which was a tap in due to some confusion in our box. Their keeper saved from a Konsa header, a world class save. Trez fluffing   his lines and Grealish beating the whole of the Leeds team before his effort was saved and a goal line clearance.

We need to stand back and clear our heads..There's nothing seriously wrong with us, we just had one of those games where we met a team who had very high effort levels , a striker who hit a career high half way into the game and no luck in front of goal.

The real test is against. Southampton.

This, all of this. I’m pretty annoyed by the level of overreaction and just how binary and fickle some of our fans are. We’re switching between “we’re gonna win the league” and “Smith out”. Not sure if anyone else noticed but Leeds have drawn with Man City and barely lost to Liverpool. They’re a good side.

In several alternate universes we won that game. It all hinged on the first goal which could have been ours. We did struggle to change our game to one or chasing for an equalizer - but to be fair on Dean, that’s the first time (other than the cup with our B squad) that we’ve been behind all season.

One game doesn’t mean we’re doomed, just as four games doesn’t crown us champions. Deano is doing a great job. A lot of fans are extra pissed because it’s Leeds, and even worse because Patrick Scamford got all the goals. But like, STFU and enjoy where we are so far this season. It’s still a dream start and every single one of you would’ve taken this before the season began.

We’ll finish ahead of Leeds. They can’t keep that level of energy up all season.

  2. Smith out...

JUST KIDDING. They had our number today - very well prepared to stop us playing the way wanted to. We had our chances, and different game if we scored first and they had to change their game. We lost shape and drive as soon as they scored - we didn’t have a well rehearsed game for being behind.

It’s unfortunate, but back to business with the next game.

Villa should send a little post it note to Rashica saying “Hi Milot, you might have seen we’re going for Champions League this season. We’d like to sign you in January. PTO”

Then on the other side “But you’ll need to pay your own transfer fee. You little weasel. Love AVFC xx”

He’s not going to be good enough for us soon... Let him go and drown in mediocrity.

He was letting a lot play on that would usually be a foul (including one in the build up to our goal).

I think he was fair for both sides but letting so much go meant Grealish getting kicked a lot.

Yeah. That’s totally fair. He was absolutely equitable to both teams - that’s how I judge a performance. It was nice to see a more flowing game for once.

All transfers are a gamble... be it young or old.
older players, what you get in the short term can bite you in the long term.. more prone injuries decline in performance and fat wages..

    younger is what you said.

the safest gamble is real long term and get great kids in to the academy... don’t cost a lot with fees and wages and have so much time to develop around the clubs philosophy and playing style. But the drawback is that’s probably a 5 year wait until they are ready... and that’s still an if they can... This method is good if you want to build a long term legacy team, such as peps Barcelona or fergies Man U.

You're just buying a load of out of the money options for cheap, and hoping that a couple pay off. It's a very smart strategy, but takes time as you said. We seem to be really nailing the Academy right now - which I think could be a crazy winner right now. You think of all those clubs across the UK alone that are struggling to the keep the lights on, they are likely to cut the academy first (we are human and we think of the immediate first - you'd sacrifice your 5 year health to stay alive for the next year). Even PL clubs are doing the same. |

Kind of as Buffett says, we have cash when everyone else is suffering and scared. I think we're nailing this...

  6. I’m going to put the goals to one side for a second...

His holding play is astounding. It feels like a League One mentality, but Emi or Mings long-ball to Watkins, and Watkins holding up the ball until everyone else rushes out is looking absolutely golden for us.

He’s better at it than Davis, and he can put the ball in the net. Exactly what we needed.

Did you not see the game last night? A lot more than 4 can go if you ask me.

It's not just about quality. Got to think of squad harmony, morale, stability. Some of these guys may be contributing off the pitch too. We've got a load of bodies in already - and more likely to be disruptive.

I'm certain there is zero chance of 4 more coming in.  Might still be an outside chance of one more if anyone goes.  and FWIW I'd be happy for Davis to go to the championship on loan to see if he can score if we can bring in another forward.

My reading is that we are not going to fill the squad with backup players.  Yes - many of them aren't great, but hopefully also won't get much exposure.  We will only bring in quality to move current first team down to the bench and then bench > squad and squad > out.  And that will be a gradual process over the Next few windows.

Finally some sense... It would be a really bad idea to ship out 4 players as bring in 4 new ones now. Let the squad settle.

  9. I think I am at the point where I’m not sure adding in any more bodies into the squad is a good idea. Too many new players to gel together.

Great window. Let them all settle in and then wait for January to see what we need.

Maybe it shouldn’t, but 6 points in the bag makes me even more confident on that stance (we are 15% of the way to safety with 5% of the games gone).

  10. The success of this transfer window will not be made or broken by signing or not signing Rashica.

We've made numerous improvements. More importantly, we've made more improvements than most of the teams that finished around us, and those that were promoted (other than arguably Leeds).

There are always more holes to fill (even for Liverpool there's weakness somewhere), but we have made some big steps forwards.

I strongly feel we are a 10-14 position club now, and that we'll be making gradual improvements at each successive transfer window to get better.

    I'm excited...
