I think he'll probably be off.
You can tell by his confidence that he feels he deserves to be doing it on the biggest stage and that won't have been helped by his best mates all winning trophies last season and then having a Summer with the England set up. He'll want to be doing that asap, not when/if Villa get there.
I've always thought that if he played for any other club (with the socks, hair, face, whinging, flops) I would really dislike him. But he has been 'our' prick so it has been OK. Time to test the theory out. Is it reasonable to boo and clap at the same time?
He's spent the whole summer talking to Chilloi about how amazing it is to win the Champions League...

I will be honest. If it were me in Jack's shoes, I think I would move to City... He's definitely given us a lot longer than anyone else would have done.

In a shop in Welshpool today wearing a villa shirt lady owner in her 50s was lording up Jack!!
He really has caught the heart of the ladies even the Welsh ones!
My American Mrs says she’s going to have to “follow those calves” if he moves and she’ll become a City fan…
So glad we spent two months on the prenup.

So I've been tied up all day and just logged on.
Anything happened with our Jack yet?
What does your dominatrix charge per hour? Is she cute?

yikes this thread.
To me its clear, i am very confident that the owners/management would not have plastered Grealish literally all over the new kit stuff and advertising, if they thought he was leaving.
I think this argument is a little shallow

Can the mods just lock this thread until mid Aug.
I am an ITK, and my K is that he will either leave or stay.
Not much use crying over spilt milk when the milk is still in the bottle…

I would be much happier if he was our number 2 DM. Find the lack of links to players in that position concerning, as for me it should be our priority!
Me too, because he’s going to become our number on DM this season…

so this is what im hoping for by the close of the window.
GK:
Martinez. NEW backup GK.
RB & LB:
Cash, Guilbert, Targett, Young.
CB :
Konsa, Mings, Hause, NEW.
DM/MCs:
NEW, Luiz, Sanson, McGinn, Nakamba, [various youth].
CAM/RW/LW:
NEW, Grealish, Buendia, Traore, El Ghazi, [various youth].
Striker:
Watkins, Wesley, [various youth].
Out (loan or sell):
Hourihane, Davis, [various youth].
i wonder if the GK and CB could be covered by a loan or freebie for a year?, then spend what we have on a 6 and 10 [or RW/LW, whatever], who knows.
Trez?

Not seen the film incident yet, but is this him venting anger that his body isn’t doing what he wants it to do?

Question (to anyone): would you be happy with Marv being our starting DM for most of next season?
If the answer is no, if we can recruit better this summer and break even on his fee, and you’d rather sell him than Luiz, then we can’t be too sentimental about him moving on.
FWIW I think he’s great at breaking up play, but very little else. Good squad player but not a first choice and it’s first choices we Need to progress.I’d be happy with him starting some games... I think we need more than just 11 world-class players and zero on the bench.
He is improving, definitely adds to the team. Sure, I’d sell him at the right price, but this “first team” argument is getting tiresome.
WE NEED A SQUAD...
Just because he doesn’t do anything exciting doesn’t mean he isn’t adding value on the pitch. We couldnt play 10 Jacks and Emi in goal and expect to win...

Disaster. No one else in this team can score A bloody penalty!
I mean Southgate doesnt trust Jack to take a penalty, so why should we...

I don't understand him. I have to think there is some sort of sabermetrics stat at which he is excellent - maybe to do with holding up the ball - and that’s the reason he continues to hang around. I.e. if he could just finish a little better.
In the champsionship, where Bruce ball is far more prevalent, he could do well now he’s matured a bit.
Honestly, I think he could be an absolute League One monster. It feels like he is destined to boing between leagues to me.

It's easy for us as Villa fans to put it like this. but that won't be the choice for Jack, at least in his head.
Any player worth their salt will back themselves to succeed at the biggest clubs.
Jack won't see it as a choice between being a hero for Villa or being a "miscellaneous mega money signing".
He'll see it as a choice between being a hero at villa, or being a hero at Man City but with more money and more trophies. Or winning a few trophies at Man City and then getting a move to barcelona or Madrid, or Bayern Munich. Players as good as Jack will back themselves to suceed. He won't be looking at it in the negative way you've spun it
The only reason we've kept Jack so far is his love For the club.
We’ve given him enough to be happy. I think we again did enough last season to keep him, but we have to keep delivering improvments.
For me, if we dont get into the UEFA Cup this year (or whatever those tits changed its name too) or 8th with an FA Cup/ League Cup then I think his head will be turned.

Just playing devil's advocate - Rooney gave up his hero status at Everton to be a global superstar at ManUtd. Couldn't a similar argument be made for Grealish?
You won’t get anywhere on this forum by making well thought out and logical counter arguments like that...

How to win everything:
Buy all the wingers until there are no wingers left so other teams have no wingers. Emi in goal and play 10 wingers...

shame our interest in Chilwell cooled
#crapjokeAlmost totally unrelated, but every time i read Chilwell’s name since the Euros i get flashbacks to Jack calling him “Chilly” in his glorious Brum accent.

All these comparisons to Leicester. But what’s being strongly missed is the wealth of our owners… we don’t need the Jack money to reinvest. We are going to spend that money anyway. When FFP was somewhat real, sure. But we all know that’s out the window now the big clubs are in trouble across Europe…
If i own a Da Vinci, I could for sure sell it and buy several Picassos... But going from several Picassos to one Da Vinci is next to impossible because no one wants to sell one to me, EVEN IF I HAVE THE MONEY.

If these owners lose Grealish, they will replace him with someone just as good. These owners will not be put off by losing a star player.
As I said in an earlier post, historically our problem has not been losing star players, which we have done many times, our problem has always been the owners.
Eventually it does become a case of not being able to find someone of equal ability though. I.e. say we get 90mm for him (it's low but I like simple math). I don't think you can improve Villa by the same amount as you lost by buying 3 x 30mm players.
Two 45mm players? Maybe, but will players of that ilk be coming to Villa who have just lost their talisman and have no european football.
Where we are right now, we have to keep him for the simple fact we cannot recruit replacement value with that cash, and we need his star to pull other planets into our orbit...- 3

COVID has been truly awful in thousands of millions of horrific ways. This comment is not intended to take away from all of those, and the people that have suffered.
For AVFC, I think this may have sped up our ascent back to the top by several years. Our wonderful owners, in true Warren Buffet style, have plenty of cash to spend exactly when other teams and owners do not! -
I trust the system - if our team thinks he fits it's likely because of some super grimey detailed stats that say what he'll bring to the team. We are going a lot deeper these days than a lot of teams, and are thinking about what makes the whole unit fit together. I really believe in the project until proven otherwise. It's working so far...

Well people want everything for free. What do they think the media are going to do?
I wouldn't mind betting that The Athletic haven't been able to get enough subscribers to generate enough income to pay the writers and fund the operation so are focusing on clicks to make up the shortfall.
This, and Google rewards clicks not quality of content. Like there was a story over the weekend that was like "Chelsea tipped to make amazing Aston Villa Signing" or something, and it was about Tammy... Nonsense, but I clicked.

All I want is to at least see a half season of Bailey, Buendia, Jack and Ollie… I think I’ll cream myself over and over for every 90 minutes of that…
