Sky Sports video about the new rules. Hopefully get full rules at some point

so, if its a salary to turnover % type thing, where are we in terms of turnover compared to other PL clubs?, we are probably mid table?

(so, unless we can increase revenue massively, this will limit us as well)

is this type of limitation, better than the current FFP tho!?

  2. Can i just confirm.....

5th spot CL if we get top 2 in the CL thingy ma bob.

Does the league also get a second Europa League spot if the winner of the FA Cup has already qualified for Europe via the league?

So in theory, could there possibly be a scenario where top 5 is CL, then 6th AND 7th Europa League, and 8th Conference League?!?!

edit: i see something about 8 PL teams can never qualify for Europe directly from the league.

so what happens if we get the 5 CL places in the PL, and a team qualifying for europe wins with FA cup, where does the Europa league placing go?, to the runner up?

  3. Villa park needs to be a Cauldron.

Unfortunately, more often than not, its at best bubbling water in a small saucepan.

I know Villa Park "can" be a Cauldron, but so many times its just luke warm, almost inviting, and not hostile.

They just beat us 4-0 at Villa Park.  They have everyone back now. There is no way they are throwing away 4th. We need to get 5th.

i checked the 5th/6th thing last week, although after the recent weeks game the information has changed slightly, it is as below now.

Man Utd would need to maintain 2 PPG, for the last 10 games to get 67 points.

We would need to drop to a 1.2 PPG scenario over the last 10 games, to also get 67 points.

Manure, so far this season, have averaged 1.7 PPG, so a slight performance spike might allow them to get the 2 PPG they need to reach 67 points.

We have averaged 1.96 PPG so far this season, but with all the injuries and a bit of a drop in form the last 10 games or so, i personally think we wont achieve the near 2 PPG for the last 10 games of the season, however, it would be a real, genuine drop off for us to drop to the 1.2 PPG we would need, to have a 67 point finish.

Even then though, we have an 18 goal difference buffer on Manure (Manure - 0, Villa +18), so in the above scenario, we would still finish above them, as long as we maintain it.

So really, Manure need to maintain 2 PPG for the final 10, and we need to average less than 1.2 PPG.

for reference, 1.2 PPG over the next 10, would mean something like 3 wins, 3 draws, 4 losses, or 4 wins, 0 draws, 6 losses......etc etc)

Anyway, in a nutshell, it would be a real collapse by us, coupled with an amazing end to the season for Manure, to pip us to 5th.

We are Villa ofc, and anything is possible.

    It isn’t.
352 puts your full backs in midfield and even almost as forward players. In 532 they’re alongside the CBs in a consistent defensive shape.

yea ok, i know what i meant, and my point stands.

  7. seems like he out-thought himself today tbh.

players didnt help at all, but going 352 and away from the tactic that has done us so well for 18 months, just seems like he thought too hard.

Also, to be brutally honest, as soon as a saw Cash on the teamsheet, and not as a full right back as part of a back 4, or at least it looked initially like he would be the right midfield ahead of konsa, i knew we would be in trouble.

  8. the fact that an MMA fighter, with 1 previous professional fight (and the first was against Fury - wtf), gets to fight on such a stage, and have such a big deal made of it, tbh, shows what a joke boxing has become.

Not putting down, Ngannou, good for him, but it does highlight what a state boxing is in, when an ex MMA fighter and Jake Paul are pulling a lot of the boxing headlines.

Outside of one or two fighters, boxing is a joke these days, its more pantomime than WWE.

They supposedly need this money before the end of June, ie before the window even opens.

We'll see, but my bet is they are not going to be okay, and are going to be in breach of the rules (unless the rules change substantially)

in before they change FFP to a salary based system (salary to turnover) only, and if you arent in Europe you dont actually need to adhere to it, so now, Chelsea, who arent in Europe, and it has no negative effects on them at all, but they can keep spending because their turnover is so high, they will just need to sell some players before the next time they get in to europe.

    .....or something something something.

Let's not underestimate the level of tactical nous required to play Emery's system.

Coaching it into a player with years of top-level experience is always going to happen quicker than a young kid, regardless of background.

when it was confirmed he was joining us, i watched an interview with Rogers when he left City and joined Boro.

He mentioned that he struggled at City with confidence and enjoying the game, as he found Pep's strong systematic approach not enjoyable, and he said it took some of his freedom from his game, and he didnt enjoy not being able to express himself, then he mentioned how he was loving it at Boro due to the freedom he has to express himself without much tactical restraint.

Obviously he is a little older now, he has playing time under his belt, maybe his perspective has changed, but when i saw that i just though...."you do know you are going to be playing under Emery right?......Mr Tactical System...."

Will be interesting to see how he develops under Emery, he clearly has the technical and physical abilities to succeed in the Prem, will be interesting to see how he adapts to Emery's demands.

If we can remove big costs from the books this would work.

Digne, Coutinho, Sanson, Chambers, Dendoncker, Hause. We also have Traore gone. Maybe Olsen to go too.

We really only need a CDM and another LB/LCB

Yeah, we could pull back 820k p/w (ish), or 42.6m a year in wages just from these players.

even if we then bought 4 players in the summer (ie: 2 players on 125k p/w each, and 2 players on 50k p/w - for a total of £350k p/w), we are still saving 450k+ p/w and £20m+ a year.

Would help our overall FFP/salary cap position i would guess.

Great insight this especially of what isn't going to plan in some of the clips.

Can't watch it right now, what were some good take aways from it?

I disagree. We only go backwards if we're poorly run and spend the money badly. £100m for Luiz would represent incredible value.

    i agree.

if we spent the 100m well, it would improve us a lot, "overall".

Its all down to if the money is spent well though.

i would trust Emery to spend it well tbh.

  14. tbh, i can see him not playing against Ajax, to give him more time.

Its a bit like the Ramsey thing isnt it, but to a lesser degree, the same, small (ish), recurring injury?

A team salary cap is the only fair way to both control club spending and keep the league competitive.

Works in other sports. Problem is would have to be Europe wide

a salary cap the same for all PL clubs would work, a salary cap based on turnover/revenue would make the gap even harder to bridge, as some of the "big" clubs like Manure, Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City, and even Spurs, have such a huge turnover compared to us, it would be a monumental task to even get close to them in terms of salary as a % of turnover.
