  1. Long way to go on this case, the FA have leaked this twice now to the Daily Mail and Toney has issued a statement of his lawyers concerns. He has not admitted his guilt to all these charges so this will run now till the summer.

£50m…. No one is paying that with these allegations hanging over him

Of course not I was saying if he doesn’t get a long ban.Since this betting charge has surfaced his performances have gone to another level.

Depends if he's addicted or just happened to bet when he shouldn't have been doing so (I don't think footballers are allowed to bet on football at all).

Obviously, if it's enabled some sort of spot fixing, then he'll be banned for ages.

If he’s involved in any sort of fixing he will rightly be banned for life from what I’ve heard it’s not the case.Whatever the outcome he won’t be at Brentford next season either banned or sold for around 50 million and looking at other transfers this season I think he’s worth every penny.

How is toney still playing ffs? It seems like bullshit to me

The same reason Manchester City haven’t been punished for charges relating to FFP over 6 plus years.

I think he was definitely in the frame, I remember they even asked him about it just before we played you earlier this season just before he signed that new deal. Don't think we interviewed him though.

I think we got the best manager we could have got in Emery but I could see why Frank would have interested us if he was prepared to leave Brentford. Will most likely be nominated for Manager of the Season again this year.

Think you have an excellent manager like us

I think every fan of their team will be. I wasn't being disrespectful either as I like Brentford a lot and I think you have one of the best mangers outside the elite teams, I was merely softening some of the hyperbole from @Tomaszk

Some of your Danish players are decent including Norgaard but I think that is one of our strongest areas with Kamara and Luiz so don't think he'd get in our first 11. Henry is a good shout given our issues at LB so fair point there, I haven't seen enough of him though. I don't think Pinnock would get in if Diego Carlos comes back to fitness the same player he was at Sevilla, but right now that may be a fair shout as CB isn't very strong for us. I have a Brentford mate and he says he never rated Konsa when he was at Brentford and other than one season he hasn't really impressed here either. Mings can either be brilliant or terrible, doesn't seem to be an in between with him.

Toney would get in but then we'd have to adapt our style to accommodate him, Watkins probably fits our current style much better even if he does miss a lot of chances.

I heard from a very reliable source that Villa approached Brentford regarding Thomas Frank after Gerrard left. Not long after Frank signed an extended improved contract.Brentford as with Dean wouldn’t have stopped him going but he has excellent support staff and it would have been a big gamble (apart from the money) for both parties.I’m not saying he was offered the job though and haven’t seen anything on this site suggesting he was in the frame.

Both clubs are extremely well run and I have a lot of respect for both of them particularly Brighton whose scouting is out of this world.

But you're overrating them. You say Brentford have such good players but they seem a team greater than the sum of their parts to me, how many of their players would definitely get in Villa's team? The only one I can think of is Toney and even then a lot of Brentford fans rate Watkins over him. They have a good goalkeeper but he's not better than Martinez. In defence or midfield no one stands out that would improve us.

Brighton do have more players that would improve us - Caicedo, MaCallister, Mitoma, Estupinan possibly. But Caicedo will be off in summer and no doubt Mitoma and MaCallister will follow, they seem to be a selling club. You can't keep selling your best players even if it is for a lot of money and expect to finish above the elite every season.

Our biggest threats for top 7 in the longer term I believe are still the likes of Leicester, West Ham, Wolves, and obviously Newcastle. Brighton are challenging this season and may again next season but I don't think they spend the sort of money to keep that going even if their scouting is excellent. Brentford will stay around midtable but to say they are never going down again is ridiculous. I may be wrong of course but I don't think I will be.

I would say Henry Norguaard and Pinnock would improve Villa but then I’m biased

Is it sustainable though? My feelings about Brentford and Brighton are the same: they've proven me wrong so far, their data-driven acquisitions have been great, but for both my concern would be that the strategy (of necessity) involves continuing to roll 6's nearly every time (and in Brighton's case especially, it does seem like the best players can't wait to get out of there).

Even comparing Brighton with Brentford is off the mark as they have nearly double the size of ground and fill it every home game.No surprise in both clubs set up as Tony Bloom and Matthew Benham both worked together for many years have a similar business.Recruitment has become more difficult as for example we tried to sign Mudryk in the summer and we were around 20 million when the deal was culled when we couldn’t agree add ons then fast forward 5 months he signs for Chelsea for 80 mill madness.Sustainable? I doubt it but think when we eventually go back to the championship our set up will give us a great chance of coming straight back up.Our unbeaten run since you whacked us has been achieved with the majority of the side from our championship squad which in these mad days of over priced over rated PL players is a great reflection on the great job Thomas Frank and his coaching staff have done and to think he could have replaced Gerrard.

Their second season in the PL. Not a hint of relegation trouble.

This is Brighton's sixth year up and look at them.

Brentford will play in Europe before too long, and won't go down ever again.

Clubs like this that are just better run than everyone else will bring about the super league before Villa throwing millions at it will.

Very flattering but don’t think a club our size can sustain many years in the PL let alone Europe.

How you work that when our when he is your main source of goals? Even if he didnt score today he is still your main attacking threat

Haven't you noticed we seem to have a conveyor belt of them waiting to make their mark ? Wissa and Schade being the next in line

    hopefully

Toney on 8 yellows. Way it's going he'll get a two match ban before FA actually do anything regarding the allegations surrounding him.

We won’t miss him whatever happens

Depends who it is that breaks the rules our nearest and dearest seem to get points deductions when it does not matter and are allowed to take the piss regularly.

Helps when you have a fan on the board making a decision.

With regards to Toney and betting allegations I don't know enough about it but to me if he bets on his team to win that is OK but to lose or certain outcomes like throw ins, yellow cards and so on is a different matter.

If you have faith in your team to win and bet on it and that is breaking the rules I think a massive fine is suffice afterall it's money that counts to the player in that case.

If you are doing the other then for sure a massive ban to deter others.

The rules are you can’t as a pro footballer bet on any football and every footballer knows that.

  13. 52 minutes ago, Demitri_C said:

Yep it should be a ban as apparently alot of evidence against him but im not sure why its taken so long to ban him.

He doesn't come across as a nice bloke to be honest. Very good player but a complete dick. If guilty has massivky let the brentford fans team and management down

Lets be honest the FA take a lifetime to make a decision for example when they hand out punishments for FFP rule breakers.Toney has to meet the FA and plead guilty then his legal team will try and get a light sentence and could appeal if the sentence is heavy this will all take months and the club think this could take 5 months to conclude.I see most fans of other clubs are questioning why he is still playing but he has to have his chance to state his defence as this could end up with a lifetime ban if it borders on match fixing.I have heard this isn’t the case though.

Well you seem to forget gerrard was our manager a majority of the season

I think if toney gets a lengthy ban if guilty i think your going to struggle for goals. He is your main source of goals

Some said the same when Eriksen Watkins ect left beat Liverpool a few weeks ago 3 1 without him.The only downside is we are going to miss out on the 50 mill a club would have paid for him.We have already signed his replacement.I expect Toney to get at least a 6 month ban.

    Hello grumpy chops. :)

It's exactly those results that brought me to ask the question - the team I saw play today looked like a mid-table Championship team, and yet I know you've had a string of good results, too many to put down to a lucky streak - so what is it that you usually do that was missing today, were there players out, was it a tactical thing, a bad day?

I cannot see any possible way that the team I saw play Leeds today puts together that run of results, it's just peculiar.

Not Grumpy as this was only my second missed game all season so happy not to have to endure that. When we beat Liverpool the other week we had 8 players (minus Toney) in the starting line up who played in our last game in the championship so you could well say we are over achieving. Our home form has been excellent and along with getting some good luck at times with decisions we look like we will be in for another season in this predictable dull league.Nothing was missing today and would say that was our strongest side that started so we were just poor and looked happy to get a point and make it 8 games unbeaten.I dare  we will eventually be back in the championship as clubs our size will never become established in the PL unless you have a billionaire owner which we haven’t.

No shot on target in the match so far for them.

How the hell are this Brentford team 8th?

    They look awful.

    Last  5 games

    Beat Man City A 2 1

    Beat West Ham A 2 0

    Beat Liverpool  H 3 1

    Drew Spurs H.   2 2

    Drew Leeds 0 0

We did look poor today agreed but we have scored far more goals than Villa this season and from a team with the lowest budget in the league as a fan I’m more than happy to be sitting in 8 th place.Let’s see how it goes at the G tech stadium in April.

You sold those players at a profit, though. You won't be able to sell Toney.

Don't get me wrong, not trying to shit on Brentford, and I do think Frank is a better manager than Smith. But there's a subtext to some of the replies here from people who went after Smith the whole way through his tenure here, while he was largely doing a good job. Their smug vindication doesn't sit very easy with me, because they were wrong about so many things.

Totally agree with you about Dean Smith and although I have been critical of him I’ve always wanted him to do well after he left us and was gutted when he was sacked by Villa ( too soon ).

Toney has a contract till 2025 and has turned down a recently offered improved one and i expected him to be sold in the summer or even in January so that cash won’t be coming our way now.although depending on how long his ban is that could be revisited. we haven’t sold a player for any significant amount since we got promoted but with us spending modestly about 30 mill last season and about the same this the PL monies more than cover this.

Hmm... let's see what happens to Brentford when Toney gets banned for life. I like Frank, but not sure there's *that* much more to that story than Brentford continuing to invest well in players. They were 6th in Championship when Smith left.

Was resilience really Smith's problem anyway? His ability to come back from bad runs of results suggests the opposite.

I'll give you the intensity criticism, though. We always looked too spread out without the ball. Good man manager, bit lacking in tactical nous. Good at building a club culture and getting the best out of needy characters like Grealish. Good at weeding out trouble makers as well. Bad at in-game tactics, never had a Plan B, and you could usually tell in the first 10 mins if you were going to play well or not.

I think he'll do ok in his next role if he just takes a breather and thinks about it more carefully.

I heard this when every season we sold our top goal scores Hogan Gray  Maupay Watkins Vibe every season  or when small Heath took Dean Jota and Colin or more recently Eriksen When Toney gets banned we will miss him but don’t bet against us surviving another season in this crap league for small clubs
