People seem to forget that when Smith left Brentford they were just a couple of points off the play off places, and then struggled and dropped down the league when Frank took over. It was only the following season after they spent more than any other team in the championship that they improved and seriously challenged for promotion, Frank had way more to spend than Smith had.

Brentford actually have an awful lot to be thankful for when it comes to Smith, he played a big part in developing the way they play, he helped with the development of some of their players that they eventually sold for big money which they reinvested which then helped with their promotion plus, and it was he that whilst with us gave them big money for some of  those players.

Dean Smith was a great manager for us and Brentford were a good club for him who supported him when we went on far worse losing runs than what got him sacked by Villa.Thomas Frank had a poor start when he took over very similar to what Dean was going through when he joined to assist him and the facts are  we have improved greatly under Thomas. We got to the playoff final finishing 3 rd in his first full season then repeated it the following season after having to sell  Benrahma and Watkins for around 55 mill.he got us promoted to the PL.This season after promotion for the first time in many years we didn’t sell any of our best players and invested 28 million on 3 new players.

Not understating the good work Dean done for our club but like Thomas he has/had a great back up team that’s responsible for recruitment ect I would finish by saying Deans departure coincided with the sad death of our young technical director (28) Robert Rowan that rocked the club and was a big set back.

  2. Wonder if Villa would be in the same position had Dean stayed.Still believe he was treated poorly and don’t see the progression under Gerrard be it mainly from the TV.Good news for me is it looks like we will be at the superb Villa park next season.

  3. I really think it’s a non story,if the bloke asking the question was a football fan which he appeared not to be,it might have gone differently.Think he just wanted to get away.Im not a fan of badge kissers and know that if a bigger club comes in for him he would be off like a shot.

It will go down to the wire but I think/hope you will stay up. Hope Norwich stick with Dean, he will most likely get them back up.

Yes I hope they stick with Dean

  5. Dean Smith has never beaten a team he has previously managed.I went yesterday score flattered us I expect as they did miss some early chances but we definitely deserved to win and gives us a bit of confidence for the rest of the season with our best players now back and the improving Ericksen.

But how do you account for his Brentford form if we are going on the Grealish theory. This Watkins wouldn’t even start for championship Brentford.

He would start a premier league Brentford

Certainly not in this window, but you never know next summer. Saying that, Arsenal are potentially signing Isak so that would most likely rule out a move for Watkins.

20% sell on fee? Is that just on any profit we make on him? I hope so.

    Yes

I joked earlier about Arsenal bidding for him, which is why he didn’t play today. But, I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up there by the end of the next window at the latest.

He is an Arsenal fan and a 20%sell on for us would be handy. Can’t see it happening though.

The idea of Brentford having most of their team missing is being greatly exaggerated:

    Fernández 10 PL appearances

    Pinnock 18 PL appearances

    Jansson 19 PL appearances

    Bech Sørensen 4 PL appearances

    Roerslev 9 PL appearances

    Onyeka 17 PL appearances

    Nørgaard 18 PL appearances

    Jensen 13 PL appearances

    Canos 18 PL appearances

    Wissa 11 PL appearances

    Toney 17 PL appearance

So they obviously weren't as depleted as some are making out, most of their team today would have played a big part in the good season they're having so far. Another thing about their squad, and I mean this as a compliment, is that a lot of their players are much of a muchness, meaning if one or two are out injured, in most positions they have someone of a similar quality to bring in.

You could probably say we were just as much affected by Nakamba, Mings, Bailey, and Waktins missing, as they were by the players missing for them.

    Raya

    Henry

    Ajer

    Janelt

    Mbeumo

    All starters

  10. Think some of you need to cut us some slack yes we were pretty poor today and lucky to get 3 points but we only started with 4 of our starting line up from the opening game of the season.Even Thomas Frank thought the same but you weren’t that great either today granted also not helped by key players being out Oli especially.I’m pretty sure we will stay up now especially as we have key players returning very soon and expect you to push on towards the top 6 in the coming weeks.

  11. Not confident as we still have too many of our quality players out Henry Ajer Raya Mbeumo Janelt. So expect just 5 of the players who started at Villa park earlier  in the season to be available.Draw will be double handy will add hate Sunday games and games constantly being changed in this league but it’s all about the money.

Still not convinced by them.  Think they might have enough to stay up though

With 20 points now on the board and most of our better players like Tony Ager and Pinnock back this month and Raya and Josh Dasilva back in Feb along with money to spend in January I think we will just about do it.

Not looking forward to it, impressed by you!

Arsenal were very poor at times and without their main strikers was a good time to play them 👍
