Edit: Case in point - Ezri Konsa's yellow card for what should have been an obvious corner kick
The yellow was probably for dissent. Ref made a mistake, nothing to see here.

But our 2023 points are 79 and it would make us 4th. Unless I’m being dumb.
It is our home points in 2023

This is what I saw ...
Martinez was OK ... I thought he might have stopped the breakaway goal on another day
The backline were OK. Konsa seemed "wobbly" a couple of times, Carlos was better than in the last game. Lenglet did OK, Moreno was good going forward, though both of them looked slow chasing back at times. Must admit Foster looked useful.
McGinn and Luiz did OK, did not seem that involved. Luiz a little bit lucky with the penalty. I wonder if the ball crossed the line before is spun back onto the cross bar.
Bailey, my PotM, Ramsey slowly coming back
Diaby had a good game, I'd like to see more shots on target. Watkins, a lot of hard work and two assists.Good to see Pau back, and Duran, got a soft penalty and perhaps deserved a yellow for one of his tackles.
Emery .. average for Emery. a change in tactics a little bit. A bit more over the top and chase down the ball, which seemed to work
Referee average ... mostly got it right.

Just ignore him.
I know. Thanks
Having Konsa, Carlos, Torres and Lenglet as centre-back options is a bit of a luxury. Hope Mings comes back strong.Today Carlos and Lenglet were OK.

Comments like this one make me think Villa Talk is a portal where people from different universes can comment on their own little worlds.

Funnily enough, I thought it was one of his better games ... compared to the last few months.

There are huge areas of the USA where it is impossible to leave. Unless you have a car you are essentially trapped. What does this do to the psychology of a population? One population sees public transport as an equalizing factor, open to all, and a shared commodity (also see trams etc.) The other sees a barrier that without wealth, options are limited and you are "lesser" unless you possess necessary wealth.
I live in a rural bit just north of the 49th. We have rural airports that connect to Vancouver, even Spokane is only three hours by car, the US border gods permitting.
My experience of Americans is a little bit select. By and large, they are well-to-do educated. The so-called "deplorables" I sort of understand. It's the 'nice" people who vote for Trump I really don't understand.

So Leicester, WBA and Coventry it is.

Why 5 years? It almost certainly won't pay off after 5 years. I doubt any stadium development ever has paid off in 5 years.
It's not the payback time, it's whether the project makes money. The five years is a reflection of an aggressive rate of return ... it's probably about 15%.
I don't know how much the construction is going to cost say 100 million; what rate of return are you going to accept, bearing in mind a 20 million overrun or delay is not impossible. Like I said it is a conservative estimate. I would hope the senior management doesn't put the club at risk.
edit
plus it is not really five years as such ... the construction time and spending rate need to be factored in.
-
A rough conservative estimate for the financial viability of a project might be assessed by this simple formula:
Five years of the increased revenue - capital cost of the project - lost revenue during demolishing/construction
If positive then go for it, if negative don't do it. The five years can be varied, depending on interest rates, risk tolerance etc.

Kids today don’t even know we had a two and a half pence coin but to make it fun, it had six pence written on it.
Thruppence and ha'penny? Farthings were a bit before my time ... but I have a few.

I have a Heaton penny, but never managed to get a Kings Norton penny.

OK ... the officiating was really poor.
- The push in Watkins' back
- Possibly the two handballs
- Ramsey being manhandled on the line
- The new phase of play goal by Bailey
- The foul on Duran, and giving them a free kick which led to Archer's goal
These were errors which affected the outcome of the game.
I thought the players were fine, but the ponderous tactics against a low block don't work. I gave Lenglet the PotM, more because he did well for his full premier debut.
This draw, for me, is on Emery. He has to give the players the tools and permission to try and break down the low block. I would sooner see more intercepted passes and unsuccessful runs at the defence. Don't let the opposition set up the low-block catch them on the counter.

Another site I'm on is trying to identify this sign which has been uncovered in the units next to The Alex Theatre.
As I said there I would say it's earlier than late 80s.
It must be pre 95 with the 021 number.
Certainly in the late 80's to early 90's it was Spritzers Wine Bar. I know this because the directors of my company used to spend most afternoons in there. If I could only find an old phone list I might even find that 643 6706 number on it because in pre mobile phone days the wine bar number was on our office phone list so we could contact them
I certainly don't remember what it became after Spritzers closed, I've a funny feeling the actual Theatre took it over for a while but certainly Island Bar is the next thing I could say for sure.
Don't know when it became Spritzers but as a wine bar I would say early to mid 80s.
Certainly that sign kind of looks 70s to me I would say?
I can see where the inspiration for our new logo may have come from.

The only thing that makes sense to me is the money is needed elsewhere where the project will have a better rate of return. I might not want to advertise this as a reason not to invest in Villa Park at the moment.
Transport? In 1946 ... record attendance 76 588.

Growing fanbase?
For me there are two aspects ... there are the personal stories like the OP and then there are the financial aspects. My personal story is I was taken to Villa Park by a St John's Ambulance neighbour. My Dad did not really have a club but would have supported Arsenal, as it was the only English club he had heard of in Latvia during the 1930s. But at the moment why would we want more local support? To drive up the season ticket waiting list numbers?
Of course, the real reason is to increase worldwide TV numbers (advertising etc) and perhaps merchandise tack. It was noted that the logo looked a little Arabic. While I am not a fan, but there 400 million worldwide that may feel somehow attracted to the logo ... it's a longshot I know, but who knows?

Currently reading The Bell Curve: Intelligence and Class Structure in American Life, by Herrnstein and Murray. From 1995, I suspect it is a bit dated now, but interesting. The forces at work they describe are probably still at work today.
I have not gotten to the contentious chapters yet.
