I fear this will be like asking how to make a cup of tea - you'll get arguments.

    FWIW, my approach would be:

Use large potatoes, and chop so that each chunk has a round and a flat side.

Parboil for about 7-8 minutes. Shake in pan, to rough up surfaces.

Heat fat in hot oven (220° C) until sizzling. Some would say best to use goose fat, but I think sunflower oil is fine.

Place potatoes in pan and return to oven. Cook for approx 40-45 mins, turning once.

Place in a serving dish lined with kitchen paper, to absorb excess fat. Serve while still piping hot.

Pretty much how I cook them. Only thing I'd add would be to not turn them for the first 30 minutes and to put the herbs on when you turn them not at the start (less likely to burn off).

I often do the parboil and first 30 minutes or so the day before to save time and help make space in the oven if needed.

I think you're doing Gordon a huge disservice there. He's been brilliant this season.

But there's also 3 or 4 players in the running before him anyway.

Even fullback where you're saying we're weak we have Walker, Shaw, Trent, Chilwell, James, Trippier, White, Livramento, Rico Lewis etc
They don't have the same quality that we have in the spine of the team but as a squad it's a pretty good selection.

James would need to go more than 47 seconds without suffering a major injury though.

I will be interesting to see who Plymouth get as Schumacher's replacement, on their fourm they're talking about the likes of Kenwyne Jones, and Leyton Baines, so seems some leftfield names have been linked, along with more predictable names like Eustace, Duff, Pearson, Mowbray and so on, Lee Carsley also being mentioned. Hopefully they choose wisely as it's in our interest with Azaz and Kesler-Hayden on loan there.

The local chat does strongly suggest Baines. Argyle have ties to the Liverpool area through senior management (past two managers both scousers) and they like young, forward thinking coaches which he apparently is. I just hope this doesn't derail their season and send them back down.

When I occasionally talk to people at work, through various companies, all highly qualified, well-educated people in software development, they look at me like I'm the wolf of Wall Street when I mention it's a good idea to change from the default pension investments.

Millions and millions of people in their 20s and 30s are missing out on years of growth having their pension sitting in bonds. There will be no making up for that when they're in their 50s and 60s.

It's not just pensions that people ignore. The number of people in their 30/40s who are married, have kids and big mortgages but don't have wills in place or taken out  health/accident cover, life insurance etc

Steven Schumacher set to leave Plymouth for Stoke City

Certainly looking that way but hopefully he stays at Argyle a bit longer.

Mid-season manager change could easily ruin their season and send them down (just as they're starting to pull away from the drop).

I know i could just bin it, but part of me is just curious how long a pension company will keep sending financial info that gets opened then resealed and returned. Twenty four years has surprised me somewhat.

Email their Data Protection team or the ICO and complain about the data breach. They won't ignore it that way.

I don't think tuning into the Grand National makes you a horse racing 'fan' though.

I'd be very surprised if that Snooker figure was right.  Surely it's a cumulative figure or something.

By the same argument, does tuning into the Superb Owl or going to a live game at Wembley make you an NFL fan? How many at Wembley were just after a novelty day out or tourists? How do you actually define what a 'fan' is?

Purely anecdotally based on people I encounter, I'd say it's in front of the ones bolded.

According to Google (so probably wrong) viewing figures in the UK where the following:

    -  Superb owl = 4m people (seems high)

    - Grand National = 10m people.

    - Snooker Masters = 14.5m people.

Its difficult to get the starting point for this but the wiki says

If I get a proper source I will update my post.

I'm mainly messing with my replies.

I'd (grudgingly) agree that it is definitely growing in popularity (whilst reserving the right to condemn it's fans).

I'm not sure if say it was actually popular yet though when compared to other sports.

It's nowhere near football, will be behind rugby, cricket, F1, probably behind darts, snooker, horse racing etc in terms of active fans in this country.

Whilst I tend to agree with regards to the sport itself, denying its popularity based on that is daft. When they play those games in the UK (and in other countries) the crowd isn’t mainly Americans

Have you got the data to confirm what percentage of the Wembley crowd are American?

I'd also suggest that selling out one stadium once a year doesn't necessarily reflect popularity. If it was sold out 30 or 40 times a year, or multiple stadiums were selling out then possibly but I guess we have different views on what popular means.

  11. 3 hours ago, bickster said:

Yeah that’s why they sell out Wembley every year for a pre-season warm up game

200k American's live in the UK, they'd fill Wembley twice over.

American football sucks, it's rugby with pads, forwards passing to make it easier, a break every 10 seconds and endless advert breaks.

But what about people from the USA who have PL teams (e.g. Aston Villa)?

Football is a fantastic sport with a global audience whereas American Football sucks and pretty much only Yanks watch it.

My Plymouth mate, who is a good judge of a player, says he’ll 100% play at a high level in the PL. Whether that’s with us or not who knows.

If worth noting that Argyle are not only in a new league but they're still playing very attacking football. Consequently they're letting in a fair few goals and any defender will struggle with that.
