I've always thought the same about wine.

    How do screw caps work?

The whole point of a cork is to keep it air tight. Even unopened surely screw tops let some air in, which would damage the wine.

This is the wrong way round.

Cork is not airtight and is breathable. This is what allows wines to develop and age.

Screw tops let less air pass through them.

This is why you usually get screw tops on wine designed to be drunk young (white/rose/lighter reds) and cork tops on wines designed to be drunk after a few year's (heavy reds etc).

It blows my minds that they are literally arguing this point. If Trump wins the (immunity) case, the most logical thing for Biden  to do, for the future of the USA and the world is to immediately send in seal team 6.

Having had to deal with him on a day to day basis, maybe that's precisely what his legal team are actually hoping will happen.

Do you not remember the animal world cup? VT did that faff

Nope, and now feeling I somehow missed a great thread.

Dog won right? If it didn't then I've lost all hope for this site.

  4. Think we're up to about 20 plus entries already.

Somehow I'd missed off shows I love (was watching Arnold Rimmer clips on YouTube yesterday morning).

Might need to do a World Cup style elimination instead of a poll. Can VT do that without faff?

  5. Was debating at work what the best sitcom of all time was and thought I'd put it to a vote? The one you could go back to and rewatch again and again.

Before I add options I thought I'd get some recommendations from you all, as there's just too many greats and some very popular ones that I've never got into for some reason.

I'm probably missing some big ones but those that spring to mind are:

    IT Crowd

    Community

    Always Sunny

    Peep Show

    The Office

    Spaced

    Father Ted

    Only Fools and Horses

    Fawlty Towers

    Seinfeld

    Parcs and Rec

    Have I missed anything major?

    Wrong thread, I believe.

Was thinking I've not posted in that thread for ages.

It's based on a true story so I'll pretend it's a documentary drama.

If a Mod wants to move it though please do.

  7. If Emery has won 5 trophies over 9 years here I'd be ecstatic.

    Klopp has got Liverpool their:

    - first title in 30 year's.

    - first FA Cup since 2005.

    - two league cups.

    - first Champions League since 2005

Plus a super cup, club world cup and charity shield.

In the 10 years before he joined in 2015, they had 1 League Cup.

Even without the 90+ points seasons and City being unique, he has clearly been a success for them.

It has definitely very quickly turned in to a very similar dividing line to the greater culture war. You can pretty much guess people’s attitude on 20 from their attitude on all the other things branded woke. You’re right, not many people want to discuss it face to face, it gets heated.

What will be interesting, is who would ask for the speed limit outside their own house to go up, versus how many will want the speed limit raised outside everyone else’s houses. We are, generally, quite a selfish animal where empathy appears to be secondary.

I’ve quite enjoyed being able to cross the road as a pedestrian these last few months. I don’t feel I’ve missed those extra 17 seconds it takes me to get out of town.

I'd be okay with 20 zones in urban areas, if we could then get 80 on motorways/dual carriageways as a trade off.

Having more bypasses around towns would also help.

Slot maybe not the kind of high profile manager one would expect them to bring into replace Klopp, but they maybe have two things in mind, one he might not be a big name, but perhaps has the potential to become a very good manager for them, but if not he can serve as a sort of stop-gap until someone like Alonso or whoever becomes available. Probably better to do it that way, than just appoint some name manager such as Tuchel or Mourinho for the sake of it

Whoever comes in after Klopp will be under stupid levels of pressure and expectations and is bound to fail.

Exactly like it was for Moyes at Utd and Emery at Arsenal, when objectively, looking back, they didn't do as bad as some people said they did.

Slot might be an easy bandaid manager, who can take the flack, be relatively stable and then be easily replaced in the next year or so.

Why does the amount of Villa coverage gets bother people so much.

Like what does it do if the press/media are talking about us?

I really cba to care about what Clinton Morrison thinks of Villa.

It doesn't bother me, but I do wonder if it affects our commercial deals at all? If there were more articles about us and we could evidence that and show greater interest/clicks, could we get more money from sponsors?

I’ve put at least half back on, thank god.

Anyone here ever tried any of the so-called Bruce Lee workout variants you can find online? I’ve done it a couple of times lately, and I don’t know how effective it is yet, but f*** me it’s brutal!

Glad to hear you're getting back to it and making progress.

Not seen the Bruce Lee stuff, assuming it's very calisthenics based, maybe high volume and low rest times?

  12. Not sure where to put this one but thought people might appreciate it.

Looks strangely human with the bone structure.

I’ll choose my words carefully: what a word removed. Pep is horrible for the game. Unbridled arrogance.

How many of the 'bigger clubs' are actually effected by and have to play FA Cup replays each season?

How many of the 'bigger clubs' choose to add in unnecessary games or tours each season to try and raise even more money (which they don't want to share with lower-league teams)?

    They want it both ways.

Been half thinking about getting a test just to be on the safe side. The blood test appeals to me most, for obvious reasons. 😉😉

I had the blood test done last month and came back fine. Was able to get it done for about £40 as I went for the collect the blood yourself at home option (finger prick then drops into a test tube and post it off).

From what I was advised, I don't think it's quite as reliable as the standard test but it's definitely less of a pain in the bum.

It's quite a poor return for the CL, but he's won an absolute **** load of trophies.

If/when he leaves though I think they'll be fine unfortunately

They won't win as much as they did with Pep because I don't think there's any manager out there who can be as successful as he's been with them.
But they've got enough money (obviously) and enough reputation now to get a different world class manager who will win them another shit load of stuff

Our only hope is the PL come down hard on them

Pep has been there long enough and is integral enough to them that there is a chance it'll be like when Fergie or Wenger left and they might struggle for a bit. With their resources I suspect they'd be back sooner than later though.

The stupidest thing to waste money on are things that are "brand recognition" items, like expensive clothes that give you no extra utility over regular clothes. So what are you getting by spending 3x more in something vs another? Same with Cars.

There is an important exception to this.

Spending more on the expensive brand can be worth it if that brand will last longer or be more effective than the cheaper one would.

If a £50 pair of shoes will last one year before falling apart, but a £100 pair of shoes will last 3 years then in the long run it's better to get a more expensive brand.

Difficult one to quantify when purchasing but important to consider.
