How on earth has this got to talking about sturridge?! Serious this thread has taken a deep dive into the looney bin.

Just for the sake of clarity, Sturridge would be a terrible signing for the following reasons:-

    1. Injuries - constantly injured. He managed 11 games in Turkey.
    2. Poor attitude - made his money and happy to live off past glory likely to increase wage demand.
    3. The gambling ban - feeds into the poor attitude and shows a lack of interest in the game itself.
    4. Doesn’t really score goals anymore - his last good season was 2013/4 when he scored 21 goals. He did score 13 in 2015/6 but only played 25 games due to injuries.
    5. Age - wrong side of 30 (shortly 31).

    *other reasons are available.

Just simply no. Complete and utter waste of time and money. Cannot in any circumstance is looking at him.

Now can we start talking about more realistic options like Messi please?!

We should riot if they spend the club money on him, I would rather they burn the money in the furnace at least that gives off heat as a positive.

I rate Eze as well, and a friend who is a QPR fan and whose opinion I trust is mad about him. While I'd like us to have him, I'm not sure how he would fit in and can't see him going straight in the team. I'd be hesitant to pay up to £20M or a fifth of our reported budget on a player that perhaps isn't a starter. He seems to mostly play to the left in a front three, I'd rather have Benrahma or Buendia there, if not Jack. I think Eze would be best as a secons forward or having a free attacking midfield role, but we usually don't play that way and if we do Jack is better in that position.

Do you think Eze would go straight into the team, and in what position?

He can play all a ten, a wide forward on the left and has been known to play in the midfield but not that often.

realistically in the middle or left of the three of a 4-2-3-1

I’m in a minority of one on this, but with some of the links we’ve had I could see us set up In a 4-2-3-1 for winnable games.

The argument against is the 2 being too weak with Luiz (who I rate) and SJM. If you got Phillips (which we won’t) and put him next to Luiz it would work, imo. Ditto with Idrissa Gueye (also not likely) or Santamaria.

Hopefully Leeds get relegated and we grab Phillips when Man Citeh raid us for Douglas next summer - which the barstewards will if he carries on performing like this.

    Anyway, as you were.

I think the exact same on the formation and I can see SJM working in the two or the middle of the three in that formation.

Would take about 115 mill for all three of them I think, 50 mill for Tammy,40 for Edouard and 25 it seems for Watkins.

I do like your idea but I think at most fetch two of the three you suggest in. Think we could ask chelsea to loan Tammy again, so buy Watkins and Edouard, sell Samatta and Wesley at that point and recoup what you could, adding that money to the possible 35-45 mill left over. We then could buy a midfielder and a winger with the 35-45 mill and what money was added from Samatta, Wesley sale, who knows there maybe enough to buy one more player if were lucky.

Would anyone take Loftus-Cheek in midfield if his wages aren't massive? I know injuries would be a big risk but I've always thought he's a good player.

Oh yea he’s a really good player depends on the budget

It won’t be less, that I’m pretty sure of. Would love it to be the same level as last year but for that to happen w’re gonna have to let a few go.

You would assume we spent the absolute maximum last year and again you would assume that with a higher wage bill the total would have to be less than last year but then we have an increased amount we can lose this year because of the change in division.

Then of course it’s about how the owners want to move forward, way too many variables to know what the figure is

Steer is unproven and also very injury prone. Agree he looked good in the championship run in - but still think it's a risk to start with him.

No much of a risk when you have four keepers And he isn’t out for long

I have a question for everyone...how many people want a two wingers in so that Jack can more to his preferred position of AM vs getting only one winger in, keeping Jack at LW but being able to upgrade both FB positions?

I definitely want him in the middle with 2 new wingers.

also we don’t know what the budget is

To be fair it is hard to judge McGinn at all in the premier considering his injury before lockdown he was on fire at the start then went cool so it was a mix bag, then after lockdown he was cool because of his injury then started to heat up in final few games.

All in all McGinn has definitely been worth having on field because he has had an influence in games even when people said he was quiet in the game. Some people think players are quiet or missing in a game because they are not getting large possession percentages, not seen on the ball for huge parts of the game. They then go forget about the quick passes, quick runs, interceptions so on and players on here and social media get a bad game automatically despite having done things in other ways on the field. I think McGinn has been pretty darn good for us and theres been times when even Grealish had not done much in games and McGinn took up the slack.

McGinn has been a success in the league we can’t judge him on the period he was carrying and recovering from an injury.

Eduoard genuinely most exciting link yet who would massively improve us imo

I have not watched Eduoard but he is apparently very good according to the media people and people on here.
I can't get THAT excited though as its the Scottish league, I don't buy into the whole he could be a hit or a miss because it is that league if you watch him you can make a very educated guess.

It could be a very important buy for us if he is as good as people say.

  11. I would say to him we are going to start talking to other targets and give him 48 hours to decide.

I do think he would be a great buy but we can't let the alternative players move like Eze.

Liverpools wages last season was 87m.  Ours was around 18m.  3rd lowest in league if to believed.  120k isn’t crazy in terms of prem wages these days. Not that im interested in Villa signing him.

    1. Barcelona – £438m
    2. Man United – £332m
    3. Man City – £315m
    4. Real Madrid – £312m
    5. Liverpool – £310m
    6. Bayern Munich – £292m
    7. PSG – £290m (2017-18)
    8. Chelsea – £285m
    9. Juventus – £281m
    10. Arsenal – £230m

That was 2019's top ten wage bills

Our wage bill was way above 18 million as well, not sure where you got these figures from and 120k isn't a crazy wage now but the calibre of player is higher than him if you aren't just pissing the money down the drain.
Look at the wage bills on that list.... you can't just commit massive wages willy nilly its where most of the revenue goes.
