I wonder if this reported midfielder (no 8 might not cost much but be on high wages or something?

    If so, that might mean we can get martinez - 19m, cash - 16m, watkins - 28m, traore - 17m, raschica - 20m?

That pretty much 100m, if we only spent 5-10m on some midfielder that a club wants rid of but we are willing to stump up their wages?, would bring the spending in at roughly 110m?

I find it strange that we haven't had a single reputable link to a central midfielder yet.

Or we will sign all of the above players (apart from the mc), and Jack will move central.

I’d like to fix everything in the team with a purchase but I would rather fix certain positions properly, run out of budget and get loans in for the couple of others and address them next summer

Benrahma off to Palace for 20m according to Nixon. How is he so much less than Watkins?! Also surprising we're after Traore for pretty much the same price Benrahma costs...

I saw it and thought what a load of bollocks 20 million is below what they will release him for

Thing is those clubs have already done what we’re doing and on much grander scales so they’re now weighed down with the fallout and the high wage bills.

Coupled with a drop off in revenue I can see why those two clubs in particular might not be able to freely splash the cash.

That’s exactly the point these players we sign if they are successful they will want wage increases as will our handful of existing successful players which eats future budgets.

He was really good for Ajax in their europa league run in 2017. Flopped a bit at Lyon and mostly an unused sub for them currently as they have Memphis Depay and Dembele in attack.

Came through at Chelsea so won't have an issue adapting back to England.

It seems excessive but we need to be thinking long term. Rashica, Traore and another striker on top of Watkins would sort our final third out for years and possibly convince Jack to stay longer.

Eventually we need to stop spending 80m on new attackers every summer and sign some good ones so we can concentrate on other areas next summer so this is pretty promising I reckon.

The stats I mentioned were Lyon only.

i think it’s worth mentioning on your 80m point that by the time next summer has ended we should have good money coming in for players we no longer need unlike at the moment plus perhaps a few high value players that may get picked off by top clubs further topping up future budgets.

We can’t have net spends over over 100m in perpetuity especially as our wage bill rises having to give out good contracts to our successful players.

Fee is close to what we’ve been quoted for Rashica so possibly trying to spur that deal on. If it was between Traore or King I would take Traore every time though.

I'd pretty much take any wide forward over King

Lyon fans would be happy to get 5-10M for him.  So rejecting a 17M offer makes me think the news is not credible.  I would really lose my faith in our recruitment if we signed this guy.

He doesn't seem that bad? 85 games (when looking at mins only) and 33 goals 17 assists so 50 in 85 for Lyon

Yes, he looks a top player, but I suspect he will move to a London club or a top 4 team.

I thought at the start of the window we would have a chance but I thought he would be 30 not 40 and I didn’t know Liverpool wanted him.

if we had him all three forwards could inter change and Grealish could roam and overload it would be insane.

They said he was "injured" on Sky, but they would have been told that wouldn't they? I would guess he's on his way somewhere soon. I see Sarr was out "injured" last night for Watford. It will be interesting to see whether Buendia and Cantwell, turn out for Norwich today or are "injured" as well. I wonder whether these players may be about to move, perhaps one or two of them may be on their way to us?

Sarr would be perfect on the opposite site to Rashica but Liverpool apparently want him and I see 40m mentioned

We pretty much only have 1 wide player of PL standard and that's Grealish who some want to move into CM (I don't) so just like in January and since the wide position really needs to be addressed.

Getting a quality RW with pace is still the most important issue. Fail to do that and we will 100% be in a relegation fight again. Trez, ElGhazi and Jota are not good enough.

We aren’t going to be in that fight this year.

The teams isn’t likely to get as key injuries as last year at the same length, they are more experienced, more settled and will be joined by new players. Mid table

Why is it so unbelievable that we could buy a player for that much to play in one of his positions he plays, then go move for a striker that is worth just as much to play as a striker?.

If Smith is getting what he wants to do the job he wants then it more than could happen. Remember were also going for players who can do more than one job on the field to, that always costs abit more anyway.

Yes we had Watkins for 28-33 mills but I do not think for one second that he will just play striker all season if we go buy another striker and weve not brought a RW in, makes sense to have Watkins play Wide.

One last time. It will not happen.

We should have brought this guy and not Watkins, but as we didn’t this isn’t happening.

How many seasons of his career has Watkins played centrally as opposed to a wing forward ?

How many of those seasons was he worth 33 million because of his performances?

  12. Seriously 😂 at all the people who think we have just brought a 33,000,000 pound striker to play primarily as a wide forward because we may purchase a 40,0000,000 striker as well.

It’s just not going to happen

I concur but I believe that they will stretch it to its absolute maximum and a bit on tops. They will have the best legal representatives money can buy waiting in the wings

Well that is exactly what they did last year and there is no reason to suggest they won't be doing it again this summer.

he can play on both sides but left is his stronger side, because he can go into the inside (like Robben did at Munich) and shoot

I think it will suit him very well to be honest he has some good moves to give himself some space to take advantage of his pace, but sometimes he wants to do much "solo" and gets stuck and he likes to play together with a teammate as well so he can go deep.

most of the time he can only be stopped by fouls

I like the sound of that 'like Robben'

I honestly don’t think we actually had a budget set, I think the message was to go out and get what’s needed, Yes look for good deals along the way but ultimately if we have to pay the price we will. I suspect this is what Edens allured to in his text to the team. If the above is true I also suspect that the jump they wish to make this year is far from just being safe

Nah we have to have a budget at the very least because of FFP

I know it’s a big if but assuming we get Rashica then we’ll have Grealish and Rashica on the wings backed up by Trez and AEG (fine as squad players), with the option of playing Ollie out there and Big Wes up front if really needed. That’s very well stocked, so I don’t see two wingers coming in.

If Grealish is out wide though, I can see us dropping another £20m on a central midfielder.

We could do with both but who know what budget if any is left.

I have a question for you that a lot of people on here have been talking about....

He plays on the left most of the time but what is he like playing on the right?

  19. Just now, villalad21 said:

    Exactly.

Don't see the point with Axel. The man is barely ever fit to play.

    Waste of money.

I would't agree with that I bet if he was at a club like our for the past four years he would have played at least double the amount of time that he actually has.
