Plus another £80m for Kia Havertz....

And they want a new keeper but will obviously sell Arrizibalaga.....but may still have to cough up a few extra ££££.

They do have a lot of saleable assets they can do without though.

omg Birmingham "click bait" Mail have just hit rock bottom.

Headline: Aston Villa could be set for record transfer fee as defender heads towards exit - report

    Story:

James Bree is set for the exit door at Villa Park, and Aston Villa could be set to recoup a record transfer fee from Luton Town.

Bree could end up costing the Hatters more than the £1.34 million it cost to bring goalkeeper Simon Sluga to Kenilworth Road.

    absolute TRASH paper, omg......

I would be happy to get that for him a million is the best we could expect

I know it sounds a bit outlandish, but if we’re supposedly going to spend another £100-110m, then I don’t see why we couldn’t get 2 wingers and a striker for £75-90m, and then still have £20-30m left for positions that feel a bit secondary, like CM.

Also, I don’t know why Trez and El Ghazi wouldn’t both be happy as rotation options. They both know they’re not at the level to consistently produce Premier League performances, and cost £9m and £6.5m respectively. That is literally the price of a bang average squad player nowadays.

Rashica, Buendia and Watkins is quoted at 65m.

You could get Eze and McKennie on top of those for the budget you mention at quoted prices

Third and fourth choice options! You don't honestly expect that to happen, surely? We would never keep these two players to feature so sparingly, and they wouldn't stay if that was the case. I would be perfectly happy for one or both of them to be pushing for a place in the first team every week.

Depends on the formation you play I want 4231 so in that 6 players who can play or wide forwards or at 10.

we have Jack who can play in all three of those roles and Connor and John who could play as 10. If you want to play the latter two as a 10 in a game you need a further midfielder for the 6/8 roles. You then need two wide forwards and keep the existing two.

This is it for me. We dont need the money; We cant be sentimental & have to take advantage of having a fan as a current PL superstar. Under contract with no need to sell. One chance here to genuinely build a great team around him. No downside to a player that wont down tools and will give his all regardless.

Second bit in bold: Makes us sound like a West Brom or something. We are a massive club and now is the time we have to start acting like it. Big clubs don’t continually sell their best players. If they want to elevate to the next level then they have to keep their very best at all costs. Thats not always possible when you’re dealing with a fuckface like a Mahrez who will go AWOL to force a move. But we’re dealing with Jack, who has never said anything about wanting to leave as far as we know. The platform and foundation is here. I dont know if we truly did place a price on his head but we shouldnt even have done that, if we did. Just come out and say not for sale at any price. I like these owners my only concern is Dean Smith liking and respecting Jack so much that the sentiment of respecting Jacks wishes that much comes into the equation, if he did say I want to go.

Just as an FYI add in to that FFP still exists.

Our owners have loads of money and may want to spend loads but there are limits.

What I would say is to us I think 80 million is more valuable than Jack is this summer. When I say this I mean we can spend that on a few players who collectively will improve the team more than having just jack in the team and lesser players. There is also the lesser risk of having 3 players vs 1 for injuries.

Where I think that changes is in a summer or two when we may be a club that is expected to finish in the top half and we look to those top 6 spots where the truly excellent players like Jack are the difference.

2?......are we to have a team full of wingers?

We currently have AEG, Trez, Jota and Grealish.

it can be argued that someone those aren’t good enough and others don’t suit playing as a wide forward.

two starting wide forwards is priority one.

Just want to ask you all this. If Villa sign Reina, Cash, Rashica, McKennie and Watkins, will that be deemed enough for this window?

Absolutely not we MUST sign two wide forward of which one must be a natural on the right.

I think Cervi would be a clear upgrade on what we have and if we pay around 8 to 10 mill it would be cheaper than the Rashica signing by alot. Fair enough some people think Cervi is average but like any signings really its all risk at the end of the day but he is fast and has skills which we need with our Wingers. Seems to have good positioning,  very good turn speed and good crossing to from the videos on YouTube as well, to me this signing makes as much sense as the other wingers we have seen in the media.

He may not be brilliant but he should certainly be an improvement over the likes of Trezegeut and certainly Ghazi and Jota.

Being a bit of an upgrade isn’t good enough our move from where we are now is either mid table or safe a month before the end of the season. We need more quality on the wide forward areas to stop the ball coming back too quickly, to have options other than jack which is easily defend against, some pace and of course to add goals to the team.

2 quality players in that area is the be all and end all before other positions are looked at if we don’t have the money available for whatever reason this summer

I imagine there is some costs to starting something like that? Server halls, productions and what not.

But if they can get out of the deals they have I'm sure they are looking at it.

Hope it all blows up, the PL money has already ruined football beyond repair.

Yea loads of costs but the revenue is exponentially more

For all the hate RB Leipzig gets (some of it rightly so) it's not like as if they've done a Man City or PSG and spent billions on transfers. Their club record signing cost €30m (Naby Keita) and he's their only signing over €20m.

They have really good scouting and manage to snap up players before they make their big move, getting them for €10m-€15m and often much less than that. Only season where they spent a lot of money without also selling for a lot was in 16/17 when they were newly promoted to the Bundesliga. Boo! newly promoted club spending lots of money, boo!

Yeah they are spending Red Bull money and I get why German fans don't like it due to the 51% rule they are cheating against. But it's not as if English clubs are spending their own money, it's loans from owners, banks and a comically inflated TV deal.

£30m would be a club record for RB Leipzig, just as it would for us. Plastic club or not it's not as if they are spending money willy nilly.

For your TV deal comment ...

Why are people going on like we can only sign one of them, should just get them both in be done with all this silly talk of who's going in what position. Let's face it we need both of them at the moment no matter what to increase squad depth and have options.

What im concerned with is the reports that we are only buying around three players. If true we are going to struggle with players coming off the bench because our bench needs a serious upgrade as well. Last season player who we had on the bench failed to make an impact most games even after lockdown, why are we going for such a low number of players when we need more than three to be able to change outcomes.

What are we going to do rely on Ghazi, Samatta, Lansbury, Bree, Trezegeut, Davis,Wesley and whoever else to be our saviours next season i doubt many if any of those can change or win games.

If we do not bring in around four to six players I fear we will be looking at a relegation scrap again, is no one deeply concerned by our possible subs bench if we were to bring just three players in??

Depends on the money available, if it’s the same as last year we can definitely do what you’re suggesting and add quality to the first 11.

if it’s 100 million like the papers say then it’s got to be four maybe five at a push because the absolutes of a striker a two wide forwards are the most expensive positions.

My thoughts entirely. We are a perfect stepping stone for the big league if he’s got it in him. Not sure he’s the Calibre of player yet who can throw out that kind of demand, and FWIW we won’t be a relegation candidate next season.

Exactly if you aren't wanted by the biggest clubs around who are in the champions league every year in the top 5 leagues then your next best bet is a club like us who can pay your club and yourself enough to come and let you showcase your talents to those clubs that are in those positions.

I agree with that in principle, but still think there is merit in paying a premium to get business done early, especially when the need is so great like it is with us and the lack of a proper striker or wingers. I’m not saying this applies to all targets, but definitely key ones.

Yes, there are protracted sagas each window, but also consider that us making a sensible early bid for players that are knowingly available allows the selling club to then pursue their targets as well so there is incentive. Just need to be savvy and bid appropriately.

For the sake of paying a premium, we get peace of mind that we start the season with a proper striker. Leave it late and end up with nothing and that premium looks tiny in comparison to the broader consequences.

Smith often refers to a list of players that the club have compiled and I would think the player’s likely availability plays a role in his ranking on that list. I’d also opine that our need is much more acute than any other team in the league given where we finished last season (acknowledging that it is all relative).

I agree with this too, some signings are more difficult than others too so get the easier ones done early it builds momentum, sends out a signal to the players here and the harder ones we want to sign.

Does anyone else feel underwhelmed by the players (Rashica apart) that we are being linked with? I remember back in the day we constantly bought players from relegated teams. There's part of me that says if we keep buying teams from Championship teams we will be a Championship team. I hope I am wrong.

If we do go ahead and sign the likes of Benrahma, Watkins and Cash, I hope the step up isn't too much for them.

I completely disagree, if we were after the average players of the relegated teams or not the very top players of the league below then yes I would agree but with the rumoured business or with who people on here are saying we should go for that isn't the case.

So you think that we will be making 6 - 8 signings this window when the powers that be have already stated that we will be looking at a step up in quality with our recruitment?

Unless we're spending £200m+ then that is fantasy land buddy...

We'll be making 4 quality signings maximum (maybe a teenager with monster potential here and there)

You can do that on the same budget as last summer as I showed earlier today on here

Most or all of those players are far from unwanted, some from good leagues and none that we can pick up as though we’re in Tesco’s.

I was only referring to stones as unwanted and the others as inferior leagues
