  1. We've been sold a dud here, I think. Already got friends who keep telling me we got the wrong Ayew.

A dud? Christ we're 2 games in! Give him a bit of time to settle for crying out loud

Nah you do know that to some unless he is class from the get go he's crap and should be sold. That's one thing some 'fans' lack -patience and an understanding. Needs time and he'll come good.

    Is that Yakubu?
Nah Delphi the snake after sitting on the bench eating humble pie after a couple of seasons

  3. I wonder if they might have the signing on the pitch before the match tomorrow. Give the crowd a boost and in front of a full house. I remember this happened before but can't remember for the life of me who it was!

  4.

His comeback involves him promising to stay away from the club. Shows how bad he is when our best window under him comes after that promise.

I'll save my praise for sherwood, Reilly, Fox and the others actually working hard to improve the mess Lerner put us in this summer.

    lol

Sorry but what mess THIS summer? Surely you can't blame Lerner for Benteke Going or Snake doing a slithering act? They were goners (at Least CB was) but at least Lerner didn't take the money from sales and keep it - which is what many who hate him alluded to.

  5. Jeez - we always seem to get the 'can't see it' and no way will 'X' player come comments - then suddenly it's near enough signed and sealed (Traore, Veretout,Amavi etc). Then the (in)famous poster who always says the same thing each and every time about any transfer. I'll just hang fire until a) it's confirmed or B) said signing stays put or signs for another club.

  6.

    I'd rather van dijk

Me too, was hoping there was some substance to that Eder Balanta link too.

But Fonte would be a good addition, Neverton made enquiries too apparently

Jeez - you two wanting Dijk and Sherwood giving facials - this is becoming very much like a seedy club in Soho! (not that I frequent them mind - I just work in London!)  ;)

  7. I think I'd have to say the Tranmere second leg too. Probably the most dramatic game I've ever seen, so many twists and turns.

I've often wondered this, can anyone tell me where Kevin Richardson's penalty ended up?

Same place as Tonevs shots - somewhere on the moon in a crater

  8. Too many - Travelling to all those grounds in Div 3 and selling out the games! Winning Division 1 and European Cup and Super Cup.

Also the revolution of 68 when we sat on the pitch and had that meeting at the civic hall and saving the club from near extinction (we were broke as a BetaMax) and seeing hundreds if not thousands turn up at Villa Park to help paint and clean it up..

Our re-surgence. (was at each and everyone of the above occasions).

Individually - Aresenal when we won the League (although we lost) and Rotterdam. Bournemouth Home - Ted McDougall and that record crowd! Notts County (again at a sell out Villa Park during our 'comeback' from the flames.

  9. we need an Italian in the team, who was the last, Carbone?

in fact is Carbone the only italian to have played for villa?

There was the laughably poor Fabio Ferraresi...

    Ricci Scimeca was half-Italian...
    Tony Cascarino?

I mean, he was never Irish!

He was never a footballer either

  10. We will lose a few to the African nations cup in 2017 so by having them here from the get go the ones not going will take over. Strength in depth. They all get used to playing in PL and we won't miss them as much. Just my take on it .

  11. What I don't get is if he is that good why don't they just loan him out instead of selling him?

It's a release clause in his contract I believe, so out of their hands.
In that case how the hell are we gonna pull this one off?(

This is going to be one hell of a season!

By paying the release clause (maybe more) that's how otherwise it's a no go!

  12. I heard Adrian and Goughy talking about it on Talksport earlier, so instantly dismissed it. There seems to be something in it though.

Perhaps, given the timing of these reports, Stoke were his first choice and us his second.

    Stoke get Shaquiri.

    Hopefully we get Traore.

I prefer to think of it like traore chose villa rather than Stoke so they went for shaquiri. If Stoke were his first choice he would have signed for them but we beat them to him (once he signs) as we in fact were his first choice. Stop being so negative about anything good at villa when it comes to signing class players. We still have a big name and a great history and reputation outside of England -we are the famous Aston Villa!

  13. Yes for the reason I mentioned earlier. Will he start against the Mancs now that Ruddy has got himself up and running? For me it's only a matter of time until he's benched. You see you can't keep delivering so little so often when you have genuine competition for your place.

When did we sign a goalkeeper and play him as a centre forward? If we do that we're fubar'd without a recognised centre forward!

  14. never before have i lost track of transfer rumours within a window, i think that's a good thing.

with how sherwood is working, he's not giving himself any options come january, another thing to consider, we may have sold more than what we've made, but surely transfer fees, agent fees and signing on fees have out-weighed the balance of kitty? i know it's not our concern and we should be excited, but we all know that we have a chairman as stingy as doug ellis, and the spending doesn't seem to be slowing down.

    #headspin

If we've spent more and it's not slowing down then how the **** can he be stingier than Ellis don't make sense? No one can be stingier than that old knob.

#avfc very much closing in on Adama Traore as suggested. Hopefully be wrapped up by the end of the week.

End of week...i will not survive.

Sounds like he is getting his info from an Argos stock checker machine.

With a name like that - is he reliable or just as the name suggests?

  16. Tim comes out saying we'll probably only be shopping in the English market then goes and lands someone from Spain.

    Classic.

Love him or hate him (I absolutely love the guy reminds me of JG - no nonsense - does the business) - we have a guy that can become one of the most sought after managers (and backroom staff) like Little, Evans. This new look Villa is just going to get better - signs in time for Man Utd - so lookin forward to that game

  17. This is a genuine question and not an attempt to be revisionist, how many did Benteke score with his head? I can think of 5 straight off.

No one has scored more headed goals in the premier league in the last 3 seasons than Benteke.

Bony matched him in 2013/2014 with 5 so I think it's 2 years as one was joint with 5
  18. Jesus Christ what a player he is. Absolutely superb.

Watch it our resident French football expert won't like this - you know we are all wrong and we've bought a lot of dross.

Good today will only get better. This team once they gel will be better than any team for a long while.
