Said it when I saw our line up that it was weak. Weak was clearly an understatement.

Play each game to win, that means picking your strongest available line up.

Having the odd player come in happens, putting olsen donker Tielemens and mcginn at left back and wanting us to play our style is never going to work out well.

Very disappointing so far, I just don't see a position for him that doesn't involve being on the bench. Maybe in the number 10 role as a sub ? 

Lacks energy, mobility and has zero presence on the pitch at the moment.

He needs to change his conditioning training because whatever he is or isn't doing, isn't working.

Leaving teilemens on for the first part of the 2nd half cost us any chance. That's on emery, very poor indeed.

Olsen was clearly told to speed things up from his almost stupidly slow crap play which constantly put us under pressure.

Cash was terrible today, trys to beat a man so does but instead of going on the inside takes it back on the outside repeatedly losing the ball.

Zaniolo needs to be on the right, on the left he hesitates and looks lost. And when he made runs he was never played the ball.

We made them look good , that's how bad we were.

Until teilemens came off we still had little to no shape and a lack of any energy and he looked disinterested unless he was given the ball, not conducive to the way we play.

Mcginn should have stayed on for teilemens start of 2nd half.

Another poor cup exit by playing out of form and out of condition players.

Hopefully emery will realise that having more than 1 of these on the pitch at the same time from the start won't work.

In summary we were shite for all but the last 8 minutes

Well it's safe to say both teilemens and donker will be coming off.

Kamara and digne on and push mginn in the place where teilemens should be playing.

That was an embarrassment,  both players just walking around doing nothing or standing around doing nothing.

Cash hasn't looked forwards more than once that half, and that was meant to be the attacking side with zero players on the left.

Duran not dropping and showing anywhere but straight down the middle.

So bad , really, so terribly bad.

And olsen thinking he has the ability of emi ? Move the bloody ball quicker, you're setting this boring slow temp and causing half the panic at the back.

It's salvageable as long as the subs are made at half time. Then after 60 if duran still is in the pocket of tarkovski swap for ollie.

Team looks quite weak to me, this cup we only need to win 6 games and that's a trophy.

Got to rotate, especially with injuries so hey ho.

Let's hope for some duran fire and Bailey to play with home confidence.

Well the bad stuff first

On the pitch, ref was truly terrible, multiple wrong decisions including booking digne for being elbowed,  giving freekicks when nothing has happened such as the ball being hit into durans shoulder, not giving freekicks when sterling flicks it on with his hand.

Off the pitch , dear lord, quite possibly the crappest commentator ever. Struggled to find anything accurate she said in the entire game, gems after 25 mins as villa already have 12 points this season coming into the game, handballs that weren't, plays names wrong, effan ekoko or who ever the Co commentator was kept having to interrupt her nonsense but apologised each time !!

Player wise

Zaniolo looks good, great turn and shot 1st half, doesn't seem to understand his position at the moment and would prefer him on yhe right and diaby on the left.

Watkins, was anonymous all game bar one press and we won the ball and had a chance, then hid goal. If he hadn't scored, I think he would have been brought off a minute or 2 later.

Good finish though.

Kamara and doug played well but we're swamped several times, konsa and pau had a good game as did emi

Mcginn still looking slow and lacking energy, cash and digne were decent in spells and held the line well but both got turned and beaten several times due to the high line.

Bailey did ok for the minutes he was on just to keep some forward momentum but shows his lack of pace when he couldn't get close to Chilwell down the line.

A deffo red card which opened up the game for us.

Clean sheet for emi and a goal for ollie and all appears quiet in our house bar some bants from me

Commentary is shocking, they had a weak shot straight at martinez in the first 10 minutes, the woman ( why ?) screaming the players name as if it were a thunderbolt shot going into the top corner. The male commentator then says routine easy save from a poor shot.

We need to be that bit quicker in this next 44 minutes or when ever the ref decides he's foing to stop it.

Hopefully no more players get elbowed and carded.

Let's hope the team click and do what we know they can today. Need to beat these lot as step kids and mother in law are chelski, so need to shut them up.

Unless we generate an extra 20 million per season, our back up players,  sadly , won't get much better than Chambers.. 

He is decent enough for the fill in or extra cover, but not one to rely on for more than 45 minutes if he has the first team playing. 

Got to say it, baileys softer than a 90 year old man whose been on whiskey all days Penis.

Another below poor performance and I can only hope was left on the pitch as he won't be featuring on Sunday.

Lenglet was very poor as was watkins who looked disinterested when he came on.

Duran and zaniolo being taken off and putting watkins and keeping Bailey on was a huge mistake, should have been Bailey and teilemens off for diaby and Ramsey so we at least kept the hard working players out there.

I know we have to rotate players but at least take the ineffective ones off.

Been a few off performances that half, missed 1st 15 minutes but some poor performances from the midfield.

Bailey doesn't seem to be coming or going, no movement and no closing down which with the slo mo midfield and defence got them their 2nd goal. 

Defence doesn't look good.

Great goal by digne and the replay of our 1st goal looked a good shot and reaction header.

Duran unlucky at the end with his turn and scuffed shot.

Did well bearing in mind he was playing on the left when he normally plays on the right.

Did take up the same space as watkins multiple times when digne had the ball which will obviously require working out.

He also got clipped a good few times ( 5 or 6) and only I think got 1 freekick ?

Predicted 5-1 so a little disappointed, cash and watkins both missing very storable chances.

Very pleased with the win as after 70 mins or so I was not too hopeful.

Got to give digne a bit of credit for the 3rd goal, his over head kick to stop a Palace attack landed at teilmans ? Who played in diaby who I thought was going to shoot as he had a clear chance to but played a perfect ball into Bailey to score.

Pau played some amazing passes all over the pitch 

We were slow and plodding for spells although I'm not sure if this is how they are meant to play, sort of spend opponents energy running after the ball all game, but some of our passing was sloppy throughout the game, that needs to happen less.

Great pen by doug, to me it was a pen, clipped ollie's ankle or leg just before he took the ball which caused ollie to fall

Passing has been sloppy all over the pitch. Clearly today we decided to go down the right. Even when digne is completely free we kept going down the right.

We need to be switched on here and use both sides as either doug or kamara will drop back .

We also seem to be trying to be too intricate at times, our best chances and goal have come from 1 direct pass.

Ollie with a huge miss which should have set us on our way and a very tight offside goal ruled out.

We also need to shoot more, can't score if we don't shoot. 3 or 4 chances to shoot I recall and all just played back or lost it.

After the dismal failure of last seasons lucky pants on our 1st game this season I have to find a new lucky pair as haven't worn them since. I may have to root through the attic and see which old villa top to wear, probs my none muller one.

Going for a 5 - 1 win 

No problem charging season tickets at a premium when we're in Europe as long is its inclusive - Cup games and euro ' then just charge 2 quid extra pg to none season ticket holders.

With a manager who takes all comps seriously it will go down well while we establish ourselves as contenders for each comp, then revise it again of we win something.

He had one error where him Watkins miscommunicated but that's on Watkins just as much as Bailey. 

Sorry but we clearly watched a completely different match.

Bailey like alot of others just stood there, doing nothing, not closing down not blocking space no effort to intercept or engage and when he did have the ball did one crossfield pass. That's it. It was terrible.

Emery made big mistakes that cost us any chance sadly.

Team set up seemed good but positioning was terrible from the back 5, Carlos went off and a chance to win the midfield by bringing either teilmans or donk on to make us more solid.

Puts the weakest player ever to done a villa shirt in Bailey. Literally useless today, in a game we need effort.

So many players just stopped even walking, let alone made any effort to even pass the ball to the correct team.

Dismal is flattering.

Looked far better once Bailey taken off and a player who wanted to win came on.

Duran hitting some wayward shots rather than check back but he's young and at least showed some fight

Any away game Bailey shouldn't be anywhere near the team unless we are 2 nil up with a minute to go.

He wasn't the only weak player today, its like yet wete ordered to not tackle, the most limp effortless performance I've seen since emery came in.

Can only get better.

Drop mcginn into midfield 3 and give Bailey 10 minutes, if he's still terrible then duran on instead and go more direct.

So much for zanilio getting a chance yo shine.
