  1. I'm tired of playing poorly trying to force a rotation that our squad is not ready for. rotate one or two max. if we're in control, give somemore a late rest. i would rather lose becuase we are too tired than lose because we start too weak.
  2. manager and all players were great. The thing that stood out to me was our midfield shape. we started with doug and kamara in center, zaniolo left and SJM right. When we had possession, Cash advanced, Kamara dropped into RB and SJM moved into the double pivot central with Doug. The coordination between Doug and SJM was perfect, one stayed to cover the CB's and the other pressed into the attack. Doug got a goal from it. The other thing I noticed we did is when brighton was building, digne, doug, ollie and dobi pressed center and our left. while SJM stayed deep and central inviting them to put the ball out to their left. then as they progressed, the trap was sprung. SJM, Kamara and Matty collapsed onto the ball and the passing lanes. they lost possession in our right side more often than they progressed. Unai brilliance and intelligent tactical application by Cash, Kamara, SJM, and Luiz. Ollie had to get MOTM, but all 4 of these really deserve honorable mention.
  3. Because if I propose something risky and creative, it costs us nothing. emi cash, konsa, pau, digne kamara, Luiz, mcginn zaniolo diaby. Ollie when in possession, cash and digne become main width in attack and kamara and/or mcginn drop back to right or left respectively in a back 3 or even 4 if cash and digne both caught up front. the other advantage is to create some new passing lanes from defense into a midfield three. It could also free Douglas to go marauding a bit more. if emery did it, it would be a huge risk that could backfire. But it’s just names on a screen for me to play with.
  4. STOP TAKING 5-6 TOUCHES SLOW WALKING THE BALL FORWARD !!!!!
  5. need that gif of exctedly eating popcorn waiting for the big show to start. this should be exciting.
  6. i think you are probably right. almost more of a 3 back when in possession at least.
  7. I think Unai is VERY patient with players that don't perform well. My main reason for thinking that is Ollie. For that reason, I think we'll see a side similar to Warsaw.
  8. Luiz brilliant MOTM form me. This referee is normally much better than he was today, but he always lets whole lot go. we need to be much tidier in possession. move to show, pass crisply, move again. not enought movement from the players and not enough quickness to the passing., both getting our head up and seeing the early options and pace on the ball... Emery will fix it.
  9. I think we're going to see a great reaction. 3-1 us two early, one in second half and then concede a late consolation because we still have some focus issues and will let up carelessly when 3-0.
  10. Torres will start. Kamara and Luiz will both start. I think Emery will want to experiment more with kamara slotting back to RB when we have posssesion. watkins will start jj nor Moreno will start but one will come on late, probably Moreno. zaniolo will start I don’t feel great confidence in any other predictions.
  11. So, Unai has been in european competitions many times. What has he done previously regarding rotations? or strategy? Does he tend to think safety first and focus on clean sheets? or did he tend to go for it. (the way we did at Hybernian)
  12. i was typing when the match thread closed, but I hate to deny ya'll access to my wit and wisdom. The bulk of the match suffered from us loping along without pushing with and speed or urgency. Diaby's quickness showed running down the left and he set a ball that I could have finished to Leon who stalled, hesitated, thought about it, reconsidered, then decided, made me furious, then finished. SPEED and URGENCY. needs to be on posters all over the locker room.
  13. i waivered on his vote. his courage to stand up to VAR was impressive. But the cards for silly trivia worked against him. the last one for Duran was the worst of the lot.
  14. Duran MOTM, not for the goal which is a contender for goal of the season, but because our entire squad was stuck in second gear and he came in and played at SPEED. our system completely depends on speed and if players slowly move through sleep-walking it will never succeed. Duran brought the tempo and aggression missing. it changed the match. As an aside, one of the most important goals of settling back and letting the opponent keep possession and looking to break (as CP did) is to lull the opponent into slowing the pace and sleepwalking through the match and until Duran came on, it worked exactly as Hodgson/McCarthy had hoped.
