The French national anthem - La Marseillaise - will be played before this weekend's Premier League matches.

A choral version will be played after the coin toss, with players from both teams coming together with match officials in the centre circle.

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore described it as an act of "solidarity and remembrance" after the Paris attacks in which 129 people died.

La Marseillaise was sung before England's win over France on Tuesday.

There are 72 French players currently in the Premier League.

"Given how close we are, as well as the long-standing relationship that exists between the Premier League and France, playing La Marseillaise as an act of solidarity and remembrance is the right thing to do," said Scudamore.

Chelsea have announced their players will wear black armbands incorporating the French flag during their home game with Norwich City on Saturday (15:00 BST).

The Premier League has briefed each club on the current threat alert and existing security guidance.

    Thoughts on this?

IMO Tuesday's game was a brilliant tribute and I think it should be left at that.

I'm not so sure that the French anthem will be as well respected around the grounds at the weekend as it was at Wembley.

I completely agree with the minutes silence, just not the French anthem being played

The idiot threw his shirt in as others have said. Can only think that was in celebration for playing more than 15mins without getting injured.

Never heard as much abuse towards an ex player. When Yorke/Barry came back, that was tame in comparison to today

  3. Even if Flabby trimmed right down, it wouldn't make him anymore useful in my opinion.

He's been the only common denominator over the past 5-6 years of struggle. I'm not saying it's all his fault, but he's played under countless managers since MON left and none of them have got a consistent level of performance out of him.

The fact that he was captain on Monday night and his 8 touches in 45mins was pathetic and an embarrassment.

  4. Id strip him of the club captain of whatever his role is.

He is no role model for any of our youngsters. Constantly injured, hasn't scored since March and has under performed for about the last 5 seasons.

See if it provokes a reaction. Probably won't, but he's a passenger for us and we can't afford players like him at the moment

  5. Oh, and if you're gonna do one skyscraper, I thought Chrysler was better than Empire State building

Really fancy One World Observatory for the Skyscraper views. The Mrs is less keen with what happened there though. I'd imagine it's a slightly strange atmosphere

  6. Just booked to go in March.

    Anyone been recently?

Haven't been before so looking to do the usual touristy stuff.

Any recommendations on places to eat/must see's apart form the usual?

  7. A special mention today for one of the worst refereeing performances in recent memory.

How he didn't book Ramires I don't know. Must've committed at least 6 fouls in the first half.

How annoying is Willian? Goes down under the slightest challenge.

Didn't expect anything today but the way we are gifting teams goals is unforgivable. I know you can say every goal comes from a defensive error, but we're making them in areas where we have no chance to make amends. If we get in at 0-0 it could've been a completely different story.

Whatever Sherwood decides to magic up next week for Swansea, we really need a win. If we lose that one, it won't be pretty at FT

  8. How can you expect him to know his best team with so many signings! I didn't like the team selection today but the players that kept of us last season. Namely, Benteke, Delph and Cleverley have gone and the players that have come in and replaced them aren't anywhere near the same level yet. We were going down last season before Sherwood came so its no surprise we are struggling now without those players.

It's not pre-season anymore. He should know his best XI by now.

I heard him say in the post match interview that he's still going to change things around to try and find the right formula.

He kept us up last season and I thank him for that, but he's out of his depth. The job is too big for a rookie.

  9. Arrived today and after an hour of game time I can say the gameplay is brilliant. Feels far less scripted than FIFA. The made up team names takes me back to my secondary school days playing ISS Pro Evo on PS1 [emoji3].

Desperately needs an update for the squads and kits tho. This is the Villa home kit without edit eae6ebab24bc6934a657a187e9466274.jpg

As others have said, gameplay of this and presentation of FIFA and it would be amazing

  10. Take all the local rivalry stuff away and strip it back to basics.

We're playing a Championship side at home in the early stages of the league cup.

Any other Championship side and there would be about 25k there at the most and we would all be expecting a safe passage to the next round.

This is the approach I'm taking. Some people are getting too carried away

  11. From my really poor stream, it looked like he did dive after over running the ball. We'll hopefully see on motd!

Watched it on tv here in the US and sorry to say it but it looked like an obvious dive.

He did dive. Took a bad touch and tried to get a pen.

Better control and he's got time to pick his spot.

  12. What rob said in the draw thread was spot on. This really isn't worth the trouble or risk of harm/damage/fines etc...

No idea why anyone would want to go, I've been to two and it was horrible both times, leaving the ground is not nice. It really isn't worth the anxiety.

Be glad when this has been and gone. Fingers crossed nothing happens.

Never had a problem at Villa Park to be honest. Saying that, I've been in the Holte every time so about as far away from the b-losers as you can get.

At The Sty though, completely the opposite. Will not go again after last time
