Just posted this in the quagmire of the transfer thread...

At the moment there is loads of questions around our recruitment team for me. We get one chance at this summer reset with plenty of funds available. This is it. Can't ever remember a turn around of players in our favour like this.

Time still to do business but Suso and his team need to pull their finger out.

The Championship links simply tell to me that the targets aren't being identified. Deals are happening every week for good players we could have got in for reasonable fees.

I sincerely hope that come August this uneasiness was unfounded.

Every window it's as if people think you just pay a simple fee and buy a player. I'm shocked every time how simplistic people imagine these multi-million pound deals to be. It's not as if there are other teams well aware that we have Prem TV money coming and have an interest in a) not selling their best players (Phillips/Webster for example) and b) getting as much money for those players and generally making decisions in their own interests. And no, you can't just buy 'from abroad' as if that's where all the cheap deals are. We got relegated last time we did that. We also spent 22million on a striker from Belgium, so it may not be quite as cheap as people imagine! It's certainly no sure thing anyway.

The only thing they have in common is the age.  I remember Albion fans laughing when they sold him saying we’ve been done.

And yet nobody has hardly seen him play in a year, and he is reaching the age where footballers can't play at the top level any more. And we are used to playing with pacey CBs and would have to change things to accommodate him.

He isn't saying that exactly. He says, according to what is posted above, that he isn't ITK about anything else other than what he has been told about Cahill. Could still be he's talking crap but he is setting the parameters of his apparent knowledge as restricted to one player and one deal.

Oh sure he's legit then. Unlike the abundant people who do that on twitter 20/30 times a day. Not just for Villa mind.

There should be a list of ITK tropes. This would be pretty early on/high up it's so common.

I reckon due to the fact with been linked with him since Jan we have a bid in but they waiting to see if they can start a bidding war.

    2+0=18 + bidding war.

I dont understand why people are so against this, there is no smoke without fire and the fact that Leeds are offering him a new deal tells you their is substance to this and the fact they are is how much they rate him. I’d love it if we got him, he’s young, hungry and English, imagine him and Jack having stand out seasons and breaking into the England team. As someone else said he would be in our team for years, I really want to us to sign him, I’d be more happy with this signing that Tyrone Mings.

People would prefer imaginary players or players they've never seen. They seem to have forgotten the last time we were in the prem and signed some quality players from abroad, all of whom took time to settle, all in a season we were relegated. There's a lot of appeal in signing Phillips for me, not least the fact that he should take less time to settle, is young and looks really high quality.

People turning their noses up at Cahill need to realise that in a market where every player we’re looking at is quoted at £20m, Cahill on a free would be astute business.

Which is probably exactly what people said about Joleon Lescott before we signed him. I haven't seen Cahill play for a while... actually just had a quick look at his stats on Wikipedia and see that's no surprise as he played twice in the league last year. I also saw that he'll be 34 in December. I fear this signing and doubt it's true. He won't have the same level of player around him to bail him out and I don't want us to change the way we play for a slow CB. No for me.

We have given a place for one of their players to prosper and he has done so.

They seem to have little interest in him until we got some form from him....They negotiated a "matched deal" condition for a reason....they need to sort this out.

Business is business of course, but this appears to be obstinance now......I hope we never loan another player off this club.

Its clear he wants to continue his progress with us and they should do the honourable thing and do a deal with us.

You have no idea whatsoever what's going on, surely.

    @Teale's 'tache

We've had financial profit from Tuanzebe because he played a massive part in us reaching the Premier league. And if he comes back on loan, that will be three seasons he's spent at the club, at very little cost, a lot of permanent signings don't stay at a club for that long, hardly a poor transfer strategy, for someone who's been one of the club's best players over the last two seasons, and without whom we might not have been promoted.

I've thought this a few times. You can work the loans well.

I see he is back training with the squad now.

I think last year his confidence got knocked very early doors and he never recovered. Be interesting to see if Cutler, Smith et al can get his confidence back and if he can improve.

He clearly has some ability as even when struggling last yr he made some good saves.

I'll only be interested to see it if it's on loan at another club!

Gayle offers something different to Wesley, he'd be very useful as a sub - wouldn't over pay so I doubt it will happen, but he'd be useful. Maybe Hogan can do something along those lines... (or maybe not!!!).

Can we stop with this. Gayle was incredibly effective every time I saw him play. Hogan has never done anything for us other than score about three tap ins!

Funny how different opinions can be isn't it, I think the current home shirt is dreadful. Love the training gear and away kit, but the stripes and claret sleeves? Nah. That's not a Villa home shirt, for me.

This is the shirt I think I'll always be going back to. Classic design, no fancy bullshit, no gimmicks, just a brilliant Villa home top. I'd take this every single season.

Ugly ugly v neck. The year before was so much better.

Only the most successful tackles per game in PL last season with 4.3 next best 3.8 and only 5 players 3 or more.

I was talking about when he was with us. I haven't watched the prem since we were relegated.

I really want this signing to happen. I want to see players with fantastic fitnesss levels that can press all game. Can you imagine both Philips and Mcginn in your face all game. Teams will hate us.

I actually think some players from Europe take a while to get up to speed with the speed and intensity of the game in England.  Can we afford a few months of players settling in?

This is everything I'm thinking. Gueye was/is a good player but he wasn't that effective for us. We were a mess though, so it might have been hard for him to really show what he was about.

Picture of him with Pitarch, has wrong season year,  last years sponsor and kitmaker in the background, so strange that they would pose there. Only the other day the club tweeted a photo from last season of Hourihane in training and they photoshopped out the Luke logo on his t shirt.

I thought he was still involved and doing our casualwear?

So they could buy Leeds who get promoted then own 2 clubs in PL? That seems problematic

Last I saw Paris was in France!

Kalvin Philips is made for the Premier League. Bielsa has cut and polished the raw attributes he was born with .... He will become a Villa icon if we sign him.

I agree. He'd be an amazing signing. Do it.

But plenty of players with attitude problems get chances at bigger clubs. Balotelli, Memphis Depay, even Ravel Morrison got a chance at Lazio. But Shelvey has never kicked on and never got further than a mid-table Newcastle side.

Maybe he’s better than I’m giving him credit for, but to say that he’s ‘one of the best on his day’, has that huge caveat that ‘his day’ comes once in a blue moon.

He played four games and is currently playing for Ostersund in Sweden! Via a year in Mexico. I'm not sure Lazio are what they once were.

No point to this other than it seemed a funny example. 😄

    We need someone like Gueye

Phillips looks better than Gueye to me. I have been really impressed! He's so tenacious and quick. It's hard to tell when he's playing in the Championship, but I think some people are underestimating him. DMs like him are not abundant everywhere either.

Also, I wouldn’t worry that rival fans don’t rate him, I can’t think of one player that VT all agree on. If Burnley fans had read some of the rubbish about Westwood they’d have been worried but I bet they’re not now.

From the playoff team I can think of about five!
