Just heard Southgate say as well ‘I watched him against Brighton, he played well but they only had 10 men’ Jesus now your clutching at excuses, what is Jack suppose to do? Ask one of our players to walk off so it’s a level playing field? I’m pretty sure he was playing out of his skin when they had 11. I’m really annoyed.

I mean. I said the same thing. He has a point. It of course made things a lot easier for us as a team—the game proves that. Brighton were much better than us until they got a red.

I still think Southgate's mad for not including him though.

    We really aren't balanced atm.

We've conceded 41 shots in the past 2 games

Yet Heaton has barely had a save to make.

Edit. Also I'm sure we won't be so gung ho in the next two games.

How I see it is Bruce plugged the holes in the ship and got it a float again, and Dean unfurled the sails and set it sail towards the promised land.

This gives Bruce too much credit. He left us with massive holes, one of which James Chester had to fix to the detriment of his health as a footballer. I might have agreed with this analogy had Bruce left at the end of his second season, but ultimately he left us unbalanced and in a mess. Dean Smith worked wonders.

He's not even making the bench I don't think we will see him anytime soon, our defense has been pretty solid so far I don't think Dean will change it until things go seriously wrong.

The only time I'd like to see Targett is if we played 5 defenders,  he seems a bit of a vulnerability in defense.

    He's injured, isn't he?

last night jack had given everything and for me his legs had gone with 20 minutes left he then became very poor. With the kind of money that has been spent we shouldn't be in a situation where we won't or can't take him off.

We had to buy a lot of players though. We spent a lot, but it was spread relatively thinly for a Premier League team. I'm not sure we had much other choice either. We were obviously in for two more by all accounts.

Didnt make the squad tonight as has been very little talk of him this season. I wonder if he will play for us again.

Good to keep him on if he cant play as good character

He's injured. Dean Smith has talked about it a few times.

Yet Southampton were happy to have this same 11.5/17 m player as back up, until they sold him to us....🙂

They have a much better starting left back, but you know that and I know you know because you did a smiley face. 😀

Parts of me hope Targett and Guilbert will both play soon so we can get this idea about them being a "revelation" for us out of the board.

I'm so sick and tired of Elmo and Taylor not getting the praise they deserve for playing very well.

Haha, always the contrarian. Was it you who was hoping we lost a few times last season so people would stop thinking Dean Smith was capable of getting us promoted? I'm sure there was something like that.

I half expect that if people were praising Taylor and Elmo you'd say something like, 'I look forwards to Guilbert and Targett coming in so we can get rid of this idea that Tayor and Elmo are Premier League standard players.'

Because are they really good enough? Taylor was got rid of by a relegation-bound Swansea and sold to the Championship, where a lot of the time he didn't even make the squad, sometimes so we had Hause as back up LB, who is a CB.

Elmo has been solid enough, but it is so obvious he is lacking going forwards (as is Taylor—but Elmo is a bit better).

i dunno, it might make sense if that "experience" was getting us points/wins, but it isnt. (currently)

If the "experience" means we are losing games and not winning, we may as well just get the "best" team out there and give them time to gel?

I will just try to assume there is a good reason for it (and currently "experience" isnt really a valid one, as it isnt getting us any points)

But we haven't lost twice because of Taylor and Elmo—we've lost because of mistakes from other players. If those mistakes hadn't happened they might well have, in their roles, helped us get points. It's not their fault in defence that we have to outscore the opposition at the moment. It's been Luiz x2, Jack x1, Heaton x1—I can't remember the other goal.

Sheff Utd’s first game was Bournemouth away. They got themselves 1 point there

We could easily have won yesterday if we hadn't thrown goals away. We could well have got a draw against Spurs. It's obviously too soon to point to Sheffield United and say they'll be fine and then do the same to us and say we won't. It's way too early. There has been good so far. We'll all enjoy some points as soon as possible though!

    No.

Let Jack compete against El Ghazi on the left and play Marvelous, Luiz and McGinn in midfield. Marvelous playing the defensive role.

We are short on the wing so to me this would make perfect sense. At least until we sign a quality winger.

I was thinking this yesterday. I could see this happening somewhere down the line.

Both Norwich and Sheff Utd pretty much showing us how it is done.

Got a horrible feeling we are this seasons whipping boys, again... points going to be very hard to come by.

Not sure what the reason is though; player quality, tactics, too many new players, not retaining enough of last seasons players?

In fairness, they have played two teams you'd say were relegation candidates. We haven't. We hurt ourselves yesterday with mistakes that led to both goals.

I think we had an incredible summer but its now looking like a **** up that we failed to bring in another forward and wide player.

I just can't see where the goals are coming from.

I hope that getting the new full backs in will make a bit of a difference there. Guilbert looked like he could get some assists.

Ok my norwegianfriend :) than why have two stronger than Villa seriea team offer bjarnason contract. I know you love Bjarnason - torn apart are you ok?almost 30 years old man dont talk like that.

I completely and wholeheartedly agree with Villalad, and I expect you'd be in a very very small minority here. They weren't good enough for the Championship!

  15. I rate Keinan too. Apart from the initial run in the team, where he made a huge difference and helped really get our season going, he's suffered with injuries and not had many chances. He played excellently and was so close to scoring plenty of times and, sure, maybe has things to work on. But I think he has real potential.

  16. In one hundred years some internet archeologist with very niche interests is going to find the wonder that is this thread and write a book on it. The main question will ask, how can the same conversation happen for years, repeating over and over again? Especially when the only evidence that is ever added is Scott Hogan continuing to do nothing in football games for different managers and different teams.

No idea how that was a freekick for Spurs in the end but what a lovely bit of play this was

This bit was impressive. As for the end, I don't think it's actually possible for El Ghazi to foul there. I think Wesley was fouled once or twice in moments where people accused him of being soft too. How can refs be this biased and bad in the Premier League?

Another thread seems to have lost its way into contrite farce. What on earth is happening to everyone? It's turning into the BBC News Facebook comments section on here.

There were about two comments and exactly the sort of conversation that could have happened in a pub. Nothing to see here.
