Axel RB, Chester , Mings, Hause LB is our best bet IMO.

If we learnt anything under Bruce's tenure is that we should never play Axel at RB. He really undermined our attacking play when playing there imo. He's a CB. RB should be Elmo and definitely not Hutton.

Oh my you'll always find something to moan at. Not saying you're wrong, but do you ever wonder if you need to lighten up?

Aaron? Just a single cup game for Villa.

(And I cannot fathom how Wikipedia manages to be so disastrously wrong on Micah: "Micah Lincoln Richards (born 24 June 1988) is an English professional footballer who plays as a defender for Championship club Aston Villa.")

    Haha arg. Joleon!

Would have won more if picked the best team.

If playing Mcginn, Grealish, Abraham and Hourihane i don't see anyone outscoring us. Goals is what Dean Smith is known for i see no benefit in him going away from that strategy.

The "We'll score more than you" approach when Grealish is fit actually works, i see no reason to go away from that.

Enjoy the win? Let all the anger go.

    No i'm not trolling mate.

Smith got away with an awful decision because of a wonder strike by Jack. McGinn should have started the game end of, if you honestly think starting Whelan was the correct decision you're just wrong.

Whelan has done a ok job in Grealish absence. But when everyone is fit he should be nowhere near the starting lineup

Hmmmm. Do you even watch the games? Was that a 'wonder strike'?

Oh sorry forgot you're not allowed to be critical or disagree with Smith's decisions if we win on this site.

Hadn't Grealish scored on that wonder strike it would been another draw and you would have a whole different tune. That's the problem with the majority of the fans on here, they don't actually analyze the game, they are so stuck up on the scoreline and ignore everything else.

Whelan nearly costed us the game eh.

We were fine today. It was a tight game, so where's your fair analysis? Or does your 'alalysis' only go as far as finding something to bitch about? We had easily the best chances up to Whelan going off.

no one in this city w0ill be happy if we lose to the filth.

this game is never about the performance.

and remember if we don't go up we lose all the best players so we still need points to get to the playoffs.

you might be happy to let the players and the manager off the hook but

    I want play offs.

Surely what you actually want is promotion?

This may be why you seem so unsettled. If, for you, after the summer we had, it's promotion or disaster then you've only got yourself to blame.

Stress fracture isn't caused by wearing small shin pads, but by overtraining; fatigued muscles not being able to absorb the impact, thus transferring it to connected bone. 'Playing through the pain barrier' or ramping up your training (in terms of time/intensity) beyond what your body can cope with.

Surely if you've had issues with your shins then it's worth protecting them a bit more? Every little helps.

Overall, Smith has achieved 1.43 points per game. Slightly more than Bruce’s 1.36.

So I guess that’s your answer.

Overall he has been a little bit better than the manager he replaced and has put in the sort of midtable performance we know so well from his Brentford days.

I agree with @bannedfromHandV that Bruce’s Results this season were unacceptable and he deserved to be sacked.

So I guess you have to draw your own conclusions from all that.

For me, Smith really needs to put in a sizzling performance for the rest of the season to convince as the manager who is capable of leading us out of this mess.

Smith's Brentford team played on another level to how we were playing in the period without Jack (when we looked dire). You must be able to consider that the problem is down to the squad and that given time and signings he'd be able to get us playing well too even without our best player. He never had a Jack at Brentford. It goes without saying that the ceiling is vastly higher with Villa than Brentford. The bit in bold: Bruce had Tuanzebe and Jack throughout the start of the season and did nothing. With our full-strength team we look menacing and effective.

So I guess you have to draw your conclusions from that.

So have i, but i feel we need bigger aims. Ultimately we need to build something to get promoted.

Clubs get promoted with loan players very very often.

We deperately need replacement for Whelan and Jedinak as well as better wingers. We also need a cover for Jack.

All of these areas should of had a much higher priority than the gk situation, as i'v said before Steer is more than capable at this level and it's millions wasted already. Nyland and Kalinic both looks bang average.

    So tedious.

    Again, this is so frustrating.

Steer is absolutely fine at this level. All the millions we wasted on Nyland and Kalinic that should have been spent elsewhere.

I'm just happy for him. He has an international goalkeeper on the bench, so he has the impetus to keep it up. He didn't have to do much today to be fair.

Hmmm... I'm not so sure this game makes Smith look too good. What do we need him for? It's all down to Jack.

Jack Grealish under Bruce was nothing compared to Jack Grealish under Smith. Having a manager who likes to attack has made all the difference.

I was being sarcastic. What I tried to say, in a sarcastic way, building on your comment. Was that Grealish makes no difference. Except for being somone Smith can use as an excuse for poor performances while he(Grealish) is out injured.

But yea, should be wearing proper protection.

Ha. Ok fair enough. Seriously though we have no weapon without him. I think our team doesn't necessarily need Grealish to function, just a type of player who has some pace and can be a bit dangerous. That's what we've been missing since he's been injured. Also, the quality in the captain's football ability has never been as different between two games as today and the last game.

Zidane left madrid, They have had 2 useless managers this season that ronaldo didn't even play under. He is far from the only reason for their current state

Barca find a different way to play and win/draw 77% of the games he does not play in (this is no worse than their record with him in the team) I wouldn't call that struggling

By all accounts Barca were not great against Sevilla at the weekend. Messi also wasn't that great, but he scored a hattrick of high-quality goals. They go on to win 4-2. Star players are the difference between losing and winning and drawing and winning.

Grealish is that for us—he may not score or get that many assists even, but it is clear as day that his running with the ball brings people into play in positions that are threatening and that they wouldn't have been in without Jack. It's not a hard-luck story—it is indisputable. Disputable only by those desperate to make everything black and white bad. Ronaldo pretty much single-handedly won Portugual the Euros ffs!

Interesting reading, and the highlighted is some of those reasons are that you failed to adapt in the time of Jack's absence concluding in a poor run of form are some of the following:

    - Not changing anything tactically, not adapting to the existing personnel and getting the best out of what you had. It's been a very poor two months imo.

And to rub it in he now celebrates Jack's return like everything is suddenly going to be okay again! - I wonder what message that throws out to the other existing first teamers who have slugged their **** off in the two months he has been absent combined with that; most of the first team have as little as 12 weeks left before they leave the club.

And not to forget the further excuses "oh the loss of Tuanzebe & Chester", sorry but no. We had Elphick as cover when Tuanzebe was out and a whole transfer Window to address the loss of Tuanzebe and relief for Chester who has only missed the last 3/4 games really. - where does he highlight that he infact replaced these two mentioned with Tyrone Mings and Kourtney Hause.

Comes across as if you're willing yourself to be angry.
