What are your player expectations for this season?
I think Watkins and Diaby should be aiming for 20 goal contributions each.
Dougie should also be looking for 15 now he's on pens.
Martinez should be looking for 13 clean sheets.
But is there anymore, i cant really think of what to expect for Mcginn in numbers.

Jack was superb in the lockdown season. A lot of players numbers was skewed that season. Of his 16 goal contributions almost a third of them were in one game. But i think he would have sailed past 20 goal contributions even if his numbers did slow down. Theres only 5 Villa players who have done that in 30 years of the premier league. Yorke twice, Young, Benteke and Watkins last season. Unfortunately injury stopped that.
I still pick Bosnich as my best keeper in my all time team. The amount of seasons he's played and ive seen him life 2 trophies, but Martinez is definitely a better keeper in 2 of his 3 seasons ( he struggled his second season for many reasons), he can kick a ball for one. It takes more than a season or 2 to surpass Bozzie and probably needs to win a trophy,

He classes a striker as a number 9 or centre forward i guess. I would class Salah and Son as forwards but not centre forwards, i guess theres no right or wrong answer, There's only 2-3 elite centre forwards that have been better than Ollie in the last 3 years. For me he has plenty in the bank to get him through a bit of bad form. Emery is more than happy with Watlins as he hasn't signed someone to push him.

Whenever i put this on, its always Walsall fans on. Do they now have the largest fan base in the area?

1. A 15 min sin bin for cynical on the break fouls.
2. The first person who picks up the ball at a throwin or corner must take it or is booked.

I preferred Yorke. Just more the sort of player I find exciting to watch.
Saw plenty of him and the manner in which he left was not exactly dissimilar to the way Grealish left. So it’s not like Dwight benefits from a lack of sour grapes in that regard. In fact, if anything I found him leaving was a bigger hardship.
But y’know, I don’t think being in the top two, three or whatever players that I’ve ever seen play for the club is that much of a slight on Grealish. It’s pretty good going really.
I agree with Yorke, but you cant compare the way they both left. That Everton game and saying he never wanted to play for the club again, completely different.

He's nowhere near our best player in the past couple of decades. He has a great 18 months in the premier league, but that's nowhere near what Benteke, Ashley Young, barry or even milner did. You could debate most gifted sure but i just cant accept that at all.
Could still change if he does come back however.

A few "positive" things that I've read about Brand over the last few days
Georgina Baillie has said that while she doesn't disbelieve the women, she can't see Russell Brand as a rapist, she also pointed out that after the "sachsgate" Brand paid for her rehab and pretty much saved her life
Rhian Sugden said that when she was with Brand he was always pleasant and treated her very well, she also says that Dispatches and reporters were knocking on her parents door trying to get her to speak out on him
Kristen Bell said that despite threatening to "sock him in the bollocks" if he tried anything, she loved working with him and may be the only woman in the world who would scream it from the rooftops (even though this was after filming Sarah Marshall so she was possibly saying it during the publicity for the film)
One of his exes has said that Dispatches kept on badgering her asking for an interview via phone (to protect the girls being spoken to or to ensure that there is no evidence of what was discussed) she told them that she had nothing bad at all to say about him and they basically said that wasn't what they were looking for and didn't want to speak with her again
Dispatches and the times has said that they spoke with hundreds of people during their investigation, I wonder how many of these people actually said that despite being a bit of a prick who slept around he didn't do anything wrong to them?
I wonder how the publics opinion would have been affected if there were a few positive or even neutral stories about him in there.
They felt that someone saying he walked about in his pants was worthy of mention but not a single positive account from someone that was actually in a relationship with him.
Again (I feel like I need to stress this every time I post something in here) I am not on Brands side, I am not doubting the women that have come forward.
The woman who he allegedly raped said she had a very positive experience when they first had sex, but then said he was very different when she said no

Uh okay. It's not that serious mate.
If you think Barry or Milner were better players than him, more power to you I guess. We might as well be watching different sports though.
It was a joke i agree its not serious just a debate

Said this before, grealish benefits from more exposure, I probably watched 95% of his games for us, whereas mcgrath I saw play for us less than 10 times and never in the flesh... He's comfortably the best villa player I've ever seen
Not our best player in decades but could have joined any club in the world, joined currently the best team in the world for a then record fee, was putting up PL leading stats, was putting up stats that was comparable with neymar and Messi... But wasn't as good as Gareth Barry? Come on
My point is not his ability as a player he had a superb 18 months of premier league football, i just need more than that after watching 30 years of Villa playing. Its one of the reasons why i was upset Jack left, i never got to see the peak Jack as that was when the stadiums were closed, but still his fleeting peak might have been way higher, but others have just contributed more to Villa on the pitch and thats just a fact i think.

20/21 Grealish was the best player I've seen play for Villa and I don't think I'll see a better one in my lifetime
He played 26 games

In terms of raw talent - Grealish was the best I've seen in the past 20 years for Villa.
In terms of applied talent - I don't even think he even comes close to Ashley Young MK 1. Young did it for 4 years in the prem for Villa - matching and exceeding Grealish's output. Can you imagine what we could have sold him for if Young MK 1 played for us now?
This 100%, it winds me up when fans whos seen them both play put Jack in the team over Young. Their raw numbers are not even comparable.

He would choose Watkins as we have other players that could fit Diaby's role easier. Diaby however is a better player. Another silly argument.

The strange thing will be if the emery era results in memorable success for the club (trophies, European football/CL). Then grealish will be in this odd historical position as arguably our best player of the past couple of decades but of very limited significance to our success
Im trying to think of a similar example with another player/club. Coutinho at Liverpool comes closest. Absolutely outstanding for a few years including under klopp but then left before Liverpool’s more recent success and so is sort of in a limbo position historically

After the Chelsea and Brighton games though we're about to hit a very nice run of fixtures where you'd hope he hits one of his scoring streaks and gets his confidence up. Said it before as well, no matter how much he annoys me it would cost way too much for a club like us to replace him.
Hes done quite well to score 40 premier league goals in 3 years being "one of the worst finishers in the league".
Hyperbole like this is just ridiculous as much as i agree with the end of the post.

Honestly i think its why the top sportsmen deserve the money they earn. I cant comprehend what his mental health is. He's either very strong or more likely really affecting his career. But it makes me feel a bit backwards but its part of football. I cant say i haven't had a go at opperition players.
But its not his fault he's still getting picked.

I loved both Dalian and Dean but Watkins has already got more goals than either and I'd guess more assists.
People forget that the level of football has changed, outside of Haaland how many strikers are consistent let alone English ones???
If you think Ollie is streaky you didn't watch Deano.

While i think the VAR explanation program is actually interesting insight, the biggest insight in got from the conversations is the fact that although referees know the laws of the game, i dont think they understand the game itself as much as they should.

Because (as I understand it) in the 1990s the substance had already been in use for 30-40 years so the very earliest generations started to show signs of deterioration and subsequently it stopped being used for new construction with the understanding that the existing stuff would be removed but (in fairness to the Tories) successive governments failed to get all of it out and now we've run out of road. That's the bit that's generous to the Tories. The non-generous bit is that there was a plan to refurb a bunch of schools but Tories gonna Tory, so they'd rather give it the money to people like Michelle Mone who, lets face it, deserve it way more.
Kicking the can down the road and concentrating on getting reelected isn't just this terms issue its been an issue really since Thatcher if now longer.

Pau shouldn't have been playing big minutes yet - unfortunately he's right in the thick of things.
I think this is what the biggest issue is. I think he would have played the Everton/Burnley games but i think it would have been Mings and Konsa vs Newcastle and Liverpool. Weve seen the good and the bad, we are probably going to have to live with it for a few months unfortunately.

I will say it quietly, but we didn't have the same issues when Dendonker played at home vs the 2 uniteds.

This is gonna be popular but.....
id say if ollie had been more clinical in the opening games of the season he may have been picked. there have been a few chances that he should have buried that maybe played on Southgates mind.
I love Ollie but even I can see that he isn't perfect and isn't a deadly finisher. In saying all that I think he should have been called up...
Not calling up Ezri is, however, criminal
Yet he's picked someone whos scored 6 goals in the last 12 months playing for the second best team in the country.
