  1. True, but most teams have a preferred style of play. Our preferred style currently is pass around in our own half, invite the press, then move the ball forward quickly into the space made available through the press. This is where the majority of our goals, and chance Come from. Really Ollie doesn't need someone alongside him to hold it up, because he can do that himself. The reason we are better with Buendia is more because he occupies the half space between the defence and midfield and provides a shorter option to Ollie. Vlahoci would want to be where Ollie is. But Vlahovic doesn't have Ollies speed which is vital in pushing back opposition defensive lines (which creates more space for Buendia). Now if we had Bailey wide right (or someone similar) we could use him to stretch the play, then Vlahovic could do the hold up play in the centre. But that means dropping Ollie. Personally I think 75 million is better spent elsewhere. Namely a right / central midfielder, and right wide forward / winger.
  2. We all of his highlights from Villareal are him picking up the ball deep and bringing the ball out and mostly getting fouled. At Tottenham they tried to use him as a attacking midfielder and he was terrible, so they moved him into midfield where he was a decent. He isn't good enough.
  3. We'd have to change our style of play. If he played with Watkins, we'd be exclusively a counter attacking team. If we played him with a no 10 we'd have to keep possession higher up in the opposition half. Tactically Vlahovic doesn't make much sense. For him to be successful, he'd need the team and tactic geared towards his strengths. Emery won't change everything just for him.
  4. Probably not. The defensive RB in Emery's system has to have passing ability, AWB doesn't have that. LoCelso if signed would be a Luiz alternative. Also I think he's not that good. That team is weaker on set pieces then our current first choice line up.
  5. Kokcu seems a lot like John McGinn to me. He'd need to have significantly better technique to be worth it for me.
  6. I feel the standard of the Portuguese league isn't that high. Stuff he can do there he wouldn't be able to do in the Premier league. Also think he will struggle with the physicality here. Williams looks durable and quick, plus plays with his head up. Timber is a huge talent. Szboszlai doesn't convince me. Kang-in doesn't either. Kokcu looks slow, but seems to have a low centre of gravity. The Dutch league isn't great. Not sold on him either. The three of them could easily flop. But of the 3 Kokcu could be amazing or flop. Kang-in doesn't seem like an improvement on any of our attackers. Szbloszlai seems like a foreign ward-prowse only his set piece ability is anything special. Openda isn't a better prospect then Archer for me. Inacio is interesting I like him, but then he is a favourite of mine on football manager! For me only Timber is a safe bet. The rest are expensive and high risk. Quality players, but not convinced they are capable of the same level in the Premier league.
  7. Williams and Vanderson are wonderful players. Not convinced by Goncalves though.
  8. So I certainly don't think he has a problem playing off the right. But he's made that left side CB position his own. That's where he was playing when built his current reputation. I see him as the ideal 3rd quality CB as he can play both LCB and RCB. The 4th CB should either be a talented highly rated young player, or an experienced reliable pro, who can defend well, but lacks ball playing qualities. For me this should be Konsa.
  9. Nah, Ramsey was supposed to be marking Toti, and completely lost him. Mings can't win the header on every set piece, he is only human. I rate Torres highly, but our high line needs a quick defenders. Mings is our quickest. His ability to get back and recover is superior to Konsa. For me Konsa can be improved on. He isn't particularly impressive at winning headers, he isn't a good ball player, and while he isn't slow, but he isn't particularly quick either. Also Chambers is not a centre back I have confidence in. I prefer him as a midfield sitter or a RB. So for me that right CB position makes more sense to improve upon, or at least at quality competition.
  10. Pau Torres is left footed, he would replace Mings. Carlos prefers the left also.
  11. Still scored less then all the teams above us. I know what I have seen. For the most part since Emery took over we haven't really created a lot. Almost every good chance we create has come from counter attacking. We struggle against low blocks, and that has been the case since we returned to the premier league. This is why I expect 2 wide forwards and a right midfielder.
  12. I can't speak for others. But I have never said sell him. The reality is he, Coutinho, and Bailey are the best we have in the attacking positions behind Watkins. To sell them when we don't have better is foolish. The problem is none them on current evidence are good enough to elevate the team to a top 6 team which is the goal. So we first need to bring in superior players in their positions. Then once we have established that we have superior players to them, then we can move the on. My plan would be, sign a new no10 and right wide forward in the summer, then make Bailey and Buendia compete with them for a season. Then if the 2 new player out perform Bailey and Buendia, sell Bailey and Buendia, and replace them with really talented younger players. The run we have had before the 2 losses in a row, was built on organisation, and being strong defensively and in central midfield. As well as Watkins hot streak in front of goal. The reality is our most productive attacker after Watkins has been Moreno. Every thing good going forward has come down the left, and the lynchpin of that has been Moreno. Ramsey and Buendia have link well with Moreno at times, but Moreno has been the danger man. Whoever has played behind Watkins hasn't offered enough, and that must be addressed this summer.
  13. Ings tried it but he wasn't quick enough to get in behind so he'd have to peel off! The strikers you mentioned are inferior to Watkins. There is nothing to get. A part from Buendia is not that good. We have seen first hand what a quality operator is in Grealish. Buendia isn't anywhere that class. But that or at least near it is what we require in that no10 role. For an average midtable team which we are really, Buendia is alright. But if we want to be better than that, he isn't fit for purpose!
  14. At Norwich he took the set pieces. That's the difference.
  15. What you are saying is Buendia would be better if he had an inferior striker in front of him. Pukki not good enough, neither was Ings. They are both a bit slow, so had to make runs where by they peel off into space. Watkins is on the shoulder of the last defender trying to get in behind. This is how Emery wants his strikers to play. Emery like quick striker that can stretch the opposition. A striker like Pukki or Ings will not be signed. Buendia just isn't good enough technique wise. He struggles to get his head up when under pressure carrying the football, so he either overplays or he hopeful passes into space. The Norwich team he excelled in was a championship quality team. They were last in the Premier league, he was the third highest chance creator in the league. But he took all the set pieces. He is a good player, but not a top player. He isn't good enough to be a first choice for a premier league team that has European football. Doesn't matter how much we like him, just isn't that good! Unfortunately the same can be said for Bailey. Bailey's problem is he isn't an intelligent footballer. He has pace, skill, a lovely striker of a football, but lacks the footballing IQ. Buendia on the other hand, has a reasonable football IQ, good touch and eye for a pass, but completely lacks any athletic ability, and he doesn’t have the required top level technique to make up for that. He also lacks composure.
  16. Well I feel for the right winger as they don't get a lot of support in this system. Bailey's been out for 3 or 4 weeks, to pick on him is unfair. Traore however, was it 4 or 5 crosses with loads of time and overtime every one. Or Buendia not getting his head up enough when under pressure and overplaying as a result. We don't possess the technical ability and intelligence to breakdown low blocks. Our best player going g forward today was Ramsey, but he lost his man on the corner and he scored. McGinn lacks technical ability. Bailey goes from the sublime to ridiculously bad.
  17. McGinn and Buendia seem to be peoples favourites for MotM, but they were amongst the most culpable for the poor showing infront of goal.
  18. Well Emery got it wrong today. Dendonker would have given us more presence on set pieces. Traore was poor. Buendia wasted all his good work with poor passes and crosses, and overplayed at time. Moreno got little joy. Watkins missed the easiest chance of the game, and Wolve.scored with their only meaningful attack. It was just one of those days! They did to us what we did to a number of teams like Brighton for example.
  19. Buendia's final ball has been poo. Shame as otherwise he's been fine.
  20. This! We'd have scored by now if the final balls were better.
  21. There are far more players that are more logical, but will never happen. I could put never going to happen after 99 percent of the transfers links and I'd be right in 99 percent of those. Vlahovic is struggling at Juve, and they would surely sell if they could recoup what they paid. Outside of Italy the only top team that would make sense for him is Bayern. Premier league would be tough for him to adapt so the top prem teams will be reluctant to take a punt on him. PSG, Barca, and Real all have better strikers. So outside of Bayern that only really leaves, the Milan teams, Newcastle, Villa, and Tottenham if they sell Kane. And the Milan teams probably can't afford the fee!
  22. Not in terms of entitlement. As someone that has had to struggle for everything, barely had anyone to rely on, that entitlement stuff is idiotic in my eyes. You get what you earn, and if you don't work to earn something, you won't get it! If you are lucky enough to be given everything you want and need, then the giver is potentially spoiling you for life. I mean in terms of seeing any player as a possibility, and discussing them on their merits, and not 'never going to get them' (as that is the reality of most players links anyway). In terms of hope to see a top four challenge from next season and so on. Being positive, not negative. Believing we belong at the top, rather than whingeing that we should be at the top.
  23. I do believe the club are looking for a statement signing. I feel a big name will be coming in! The attention appointing Gerrard garnered was the perfect example a huge name can have is regards to media attention.
