  1. One Twitter ITK is all over this, says he signed on Wednesday everything agreed. The ITK is very protective over his credibility, says it’s nailed on pending medical.
  2. Isn’t Steer out of contract this summer? I think he will surely get a new contract? Maybe we secure him before we progress Butland/Etheridge so he doesn’t threaten to walk?
  3. We were a week ago. I’m feeling better every day
  4. Say it quietly, but we are the favourites to go down. We won’t, of course
  5. About half the cost of Maguire then. I’ll take that.
  6. A journo covering Belgium soccer suggests he is a good signing for the money but will take time to adjust and for Villa fans to be patient as he is used to bullying defenders and the Premier League is much more physical. Not as natural a goal scorer as Benteke, but in demand and plenty of development left. I guess at £22m he is cheaper than Tammy would have been and seems a like-for-like player. I guess no return for Tammy now. We have a 6'3" striker now for a more diminutive plan B....
  7. I agree however is two-up-top a DS set-up?
  8. Looks like he has no problems with gates, that's #1 recruitment criteria for forwards at Villa!
  9. Yeah, I just checked and he has abandoned his profile. Co-incidence.
  10. Re Big Wez, I know zip about this fella but judging by others views on Twitter (respected commentators with lots of followers) he is real talent and right up there in the most promising young strikers in Europe. Have to say his highlights reel is not the most exciting, the opposition doesn't look great, but he is a sharp finisher.
  11. Maybe there was a medical yesterday, and one of the ITK's did say progress was being made on a forward (yes I know it is an easy predication!)
  12. Not a million miles from my view @villarocker but I rate Maupay very highly. Would also like Benrahma as an alternative to Lolley or Bowen but that's nit-picking
  13. I have no issue cherry picking the best championship players this season when we need quantity but also reasonable quality. All the names we are linked with would remain in the PL if their respective teams were promoted, and £15-£20m seems the going rate this year for outstanding Championship players when promising PL players are going for £40m+. Think not of the cost but the short term service and potential sell on value. I am certain this is what Purslow alludes to.
  14. Very good player. Problem is Leeds (Bielsa) probably will only accept £20m as he is a key player. The other thing is At that price level we have been linked to some very good overseas players
  15. Sherwood: very likeable guy, gash manager. i remember the Mane 3 minute hat trick, announced himself there, look at him now.
  16. Food for thought: Alan Nixon suggested that there are few signings until July as players contracts run until the end of June, so why incur tens of thousands in wages in a dead period for the sake of getting them in early? i note our deals are mainly activating loan triggers that were due to expire.
  17. Yes, this is how they do it. A players "cost" is amortised over the period of his contract. So if he cost £20m and is on a 4yr deal he costs us £5m in transfer 'cost' in this season, his wages are taken elsewhere. We are only allowed to make certain losses in our first PL season, but on this basis we can "lose" £39m or so this season.
  18. If you listen to the Jonny Gould podcast with Dave Jordan (@YorkshireAVFC), he analysed our FFP situation and concluded that conservatively we have circa £140m to spend this window next season without encroaching in PL profitability and sustainability rules. This assumes we finish 20th and don't improve on our commercial deals and don't sell anyone. This sets the logical marker, however our owners could spend double that out of their own pocket if unconstrained. Add into this the release of out of contract, elderly players and deadwood and return of loans, we do need 8-10 players of a decent quality to improve our squad bearing in mind we finished 5th in the Championship last season. So it not really rocket science to TBH I think we have made a good start: El Ghazi, Hause and Jota are all decent squad members for £15m, so there's 3 already, so the average spend is £5m so far. If we get Mings for £15m that's another good value signing. Just need some free transfers/out of contract and maybe a good season loan.
  19. Hahah, you are not getting off that lightly, you know this is not actually possible. Lets face it we've got 60 days of anxiety and dissapointment over players we were never in for and we have never heard of.
  20. I think we will spend more than £100m, possibly up to £140m because we need to and our owners and FFP means we can afford to. We have to address 4 years of poor squad management and can’t afford to miss the opportunity of staying up, as we have found out, the cost of beinf]g away from the big table costs the club a fortune. Spending £100m doesn’t mean we have to mirror Fulham, they ripped the heart out of their first team, sacked their manager too soon and altered the playing style. Fundamentally their defence was poor, that’s the lesson here. Agree with you on Tammy, whether we’ve already bought our forwards by then remains to be seen. Would love to buy Tammy, he’s one for the future.
  21. Why does spending £20m on a keeper preclude us from buying a striker or spending big on a striker (or 2)?
  22. Yeah. Terrible. I wasn’t right for weeks after.
