  1. what the hell have emile heskey and john carew done? i think this proves beyond a doubt they cant play together complete and utter shite then again they are getting no supply from midfield.

Agreed, Carew has put himself about a bit whilst Heskey hasn't contributed much... I'd give young Weiman a go alongside JC.

At least, we've drawn level - hopefully we can sort ourselves out and grab another early in the second. (Can't see it but you never know!)

On my stream they keep saying Emily Heskey.

Picture aint too clear, maybe it's his sister?

  2. Didn't see the game.

Just got home and came to check the result. Very disappointed.

In a way, I am glad. Maybe if we did well, MON might think 'Hmmmm... maybe we don't need a creative midfielder after all...'

We had a major lack of creativity even WITH Barry, so I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised to hear we created practically nothing.

Please, please, PLEASE can we get someone in who can make us TICK. Pass, move into space, and be ready to get the ball back. WANT the ball, and POSE A THREAT of a killer pass. Someone who can make our forwards BELIEVE that if they made an intelligent run, the ball may actually get through to them.

  3. No brainer for me.

    Beat chelsea.

Momentum is very important, and I don't want us to lose any of it.

So if we lose at Everton and crash out of the cup we won't lose any momentum then?...

No, we won't. Not in the league.

Remember... there's an OPTION here in this poll.

Of course I'd rather win all 3... but there isn't a little radio button with "win all 3" next to it.

  4. No brainer for me.

    Beat chelsea.

    a) Momentum is very important, and I don't want us to lose any of it.

    B) Beating chelsea means we win another game, and chelsea lose another game. Effectively 6 points.

    c) Unless we go on and win the FA Cup winning our next game is pointless.

    d) As above, but for UEFA cup.

Hell, I'd take a draw against chelsea and lose both them.

  5. For a fair comparison, you'd need to see Carew play in this formation.

Personally I think he'd struggle, whereas Gabby has thrived.

What the stats show is, Carew scores more goals than Gabby when they're paired together, which isn't the point...

I am actually baffled by this post.

You've actually just tried to explain to ME, what EVERYONE has been telling YOU over the last 9 pages.

For a fair comparison, you'd need to see Carew play in this formation

YET you saw fit to start a thread with this opening statement

9 starts from Carew, 12 goals.

12 games where he didn't start, 21 goals.

9 starts from Carew. 14 points.

12 games where he didn't start. 27 points.

Can people stop saying we miss him please.

Talk about doing a full circle and contradicting your previous 8 pages of posts.

You've obviously failed to grasp what I've been trying to say to you all along...

I'm NOT saying JC is better than GA

I'm NOT saying Fernando Torres is a poor striker

What I, and nearly everyone else in this thread is saying to you, is that the stats you quoted don't mean ANYTHING. John Carew being out the side is only ONE factor amongst MANY (Milner,Sidwell,Shorey, the formation, the weather etc. etc.) that have changed in between the two sets of results you have quoted. Yet you chose to use those stats to blame HIM.

Now, you think Gabby has thrived playing up there by himself?

How about If I told you that he has scored in only 2 of 10 games where Carew has been missing? He had 6 goals in 10 games before Carew got injured...

I guess at the end of the day, the most obvious statistic is at the top of this page... 94% think we miss him.

    Goodnight.

  6. Also, ALL that your stats show is that we have improved since we moved to 4-5-1/4-3-3 whatever you want to call it.

You COULD argue, that with JC's better goals/minute ratio, we would be even better if we dropped Gabby and played JC upfront.

    Doubt it.

Gabby makes goals out of nothing.

    Carew doesn't.

    Based on what stats?

The stats CLEARLY show John Carew to score more often than Gabby when he's on the pitch.

Look, I'm making a point here - I too would also start Gabby ahead of John Carew. That is because of what I have seen so far this season. NOT because of what stats do and don't say.

In fact, you just blew your whole arguement out of the water and proved me right. You're using STATS to 'prove' we are a better team without John Carew (as it suits your personal opinion)

When the STATS 'prove' John Carew to be more effective than a player you favour... you choose to ignore them.

    Point proven.

    End of discussion.

  7. Ok.. stats can be manipulated to read WHATEVER you what them to.

    For example...

    Liverpool:

    ______________PL___W__D___L___F___PTS___Gls/Game___Pts/Game

    Torres Plays____10___6___4___0___13___22___1.3________2.2

    No Torres______11___7___3___1___22___24___2.0________2.18

According to 'STATISTICS' Liverpool score a LOT more when FERNANDO TORRES plays NO part in the game

    Therefore, TORRES is TURD.

Some people need to get a grip about how stats work - particularly how they can be manipulated to prove what you want them to.

Please can someone show me how to do a proper table? Thanks.

    So what you're saying is...

Liverpool get more points when Torres plays.

How is that similar to our massive points gains when Carew doesn't play?

You've missed the point of my post.

Stats can be manipulated to say whatever you want them to say. For example, based on the above stats:

Over the course of a season, Liverpool would score ( 1.3*38 ) =49 goals in a season if Torres featured in every game

They would, however, score ( 2.0*38 ) =76 Goals in a season if Torres did NOT feature.

Conclusion: Liverpool are a MUCH more potent strike force without Fernando Torres.

Which, in my opinion, is obviously bollocks.

  8. at villa we have the method of scoring from anywhere and the opposition we do not relay on a single player therefore losing Carew is not a big loss but losing another would be.

    Sorry Bro...

I've read your post 7 times now, and I'm still not sure what you're trying to say...

    Could you paraphrase for me?

  9. Ok.. stats can be manipulated to read WHATEVER you what them to.

  10. Now I know it doesn't work this way, but wasn't there some kind of rule, or maybe just an 'encouragement' that only captains can 'talk' to the referee? (hope someone can set me right on this)

It would be quite difficult to do that from playing in goal. I'm sure Friedel would be an excellent captain, but I've always eeen a little dubious about goalie captains. Having said that, there are quite a few of them out there.

  11. Right, I'm not gonna trawl through 62 pages of chants so I'm sorry if something similar has already been suggested.

To the tune of Pink Floyd's The wall:

    We don't need fer-nan-do Tor-res...

    (we don't need no ed -u- ca-tion)

We don't need no ber -ba-tov.

(we don't need no thought con-trol)

No lio - nel mes-si on our team-sheet

(no dark sar-ca-sm in the class-room)

Bar - ca keep your ron-al-dee-nio!

    (tea-cher leave them kids alo-o-one)

Hey, Fergi! You can keep your ro- nal-do!

(Hey, teacher! Leave them kids a lone)

Cus you know we've got our, Ga-bby Ag -bon - la - hor!

(All in all you're just a - no-ther brick in the wall)

Cus you know we've got our, Ga-bby Ag -bon - la - hor!

(All in all you're just a - no-ther brick in the wall)

A song that was made for chanting!

And Nick mason is a villa fan - maybe the floyd could record a studio version of it!!
