  1. Lucas Digne is having a good game yes, but let’s not forget the opposition. Most PL left backs would thrive in the space he’s been afforded in these last two games. If he was on half the wage he is, then he’d be perfect, but he’s a top earner and likelihood is he’ll be on the bench most of the season.
  2. If it’s the same guy who broke the Buendia news, then that and the fact they’ve held the plane up make me think it’s real. Sorry to be a downer, but twitter does get things right sometimes as we’ve all seen recently. (Happy to take the flak if it turns out to be rubbish)
  3. Ominous news from the trees… looks like they’ve said to hang on in case they need to fly him back.
  4. Rumours on Twitter he’s failed his medical. It’s likely bullsh*t but knowing our luck it’ll turn out to be true
  5. I think if you asked me where on the pitch I would want ‘aggressive’ players, fullback would not be it. Can see him being skinned by PL wingers and lashing out, resulting in a red card.
  6. It’s good to hear you have that opinion of him, and I hold my hands up to the fact that I’ve only watched a relatively small number of his games for club and country. That said, in the games I have watched him play, he stood out as one of the poorer players. In the World Cup I thought he was by far Argentina’s weakest link, often failing in one-on-one situations and his crossing was comical at times. However those are skills which Unai probably won’t want to utilise from him much anyway, so like I say, as a cheaper option to Digne, I’m not against signing him, just not very excited by it.
  7. Acuña is definitely a back-up, he’s nowhere near good enough to be a regular starter, and should certainly not be considered for a LM spot. Don’t be fooled by the medals, he’s got into those teams through a mixture of good fortune and the fact that he’s a grafter - which I’ll give him, is a good quality, but he’s just not at the technical level of the other signings we’ve made so far this summer. All that said, I’m not a massive fan of Digne’s either, so if swapping one back-up for another allows us more funds to use elsewhere then I’m all for it.
  8. Don’t know if it’s already been posted but there’s a cracking song for him doing the rounds on Twitter… (to the tune of Status Quo’s Rocking All Over The World) And I like it I like it I like it I like it I laa-la-la like it I laa-la-la like it Here we goooooo Nicolo Zaniolo
  9. He’s the shithouse Villa needs, just not the one we can afford right now.
  10. Agree. I actually think they make a really great and versatile back 3. Perhaps not in the traditional sense because it doesn’t seem to be Unai’s preferred formation, but starting with Moreno advanced on the left as we did last season, it gives us the option to bring Moreno off later in a game and switch to attacking down the right with Cash (or preferably a new right footed version of Moreno!). Also, I quite liked Carlos’ powerful runs into midfield in preseason, and this gives him (and the other two) more license to do that.
  11. If anything pairing him with Torres is perhaps easier. It’s a new partnership whichever way we do it now, be it Torres/Konsa, Torres/Carlos or Carlos/Konsa - so might as well put the two Spanish speaking players together. Tough on Konsa but that’s top level football.
  12. Thanks D&DU much appreciated insight as others have said. One last question if you permit… in your professional opinion, considering Tyrones physique and age, do you think he’ll come back at the same level he was performing to pre Saturday’s injury?
  13. Acuña is absolutely terrible. Every Argentina game during the World Cup, he stood out as the worst player in their side. Crossing was dreadful and constantly lost possession when trying to take the full back on. So… there’s a cheery little assessment to help buck up everyone’s Monday.
  14. Villa hold transfer crisis meeting this afternoon: Lange: “What about Harrison?!” Monchi: “Great idea, go for it Johan!” 10 mins later: Monchi: “You’re a funny guy Johan, you nearly had me with that Harrison joke earlier” Lange: “Erm… I just need to make a phone call”
  15. He did. But he didn’t want to come. Edit: scrap that I’m thinking of Nico Williams. Apologies NV
  16. Harrison?! Urgh, and there was me thinking this weekend couldn’t get any worse.
  17. Before the injuries to Emi and Ty, I’d hoped for 3 more signings to finish the window: RB - Wan Bisaka / Foyth SS - Felix / Zaniolo Winger - Doku / Johnson No idea if those are the right backs we’re looking at, but in the case of the latter two positions, I think this was probably the plan… Wait to see if we could get the first choice, if not then we would quickly move to the alternative towards the end of the window. I think now, we may scrap the second winger option and go with Zaniolo as SS in order to save cash and allow us to look at CB and AM additions to cover those injuries.
  18. Him and Coutinho are ‘last half an hour’ players at best. Can be important to have but not on those wages. Get rid, Bailey first.
  19. If Unai doesn’t think Carlos is the solution - and assuming we have a target in mind, I’d go all out for a big, fast / athletic, ‘stopper’ type right centre back to sit alongside Torres. That was probably the long term vision anyway. Carlos to Inter might have to happen to help fund it. Chambers and Konsa as back-ups
  20. I had similar thoughts until I watched a few videos of him. The Zlatan / Berbatov comparisons (whilst very flattering) aren’t far off in terms of style. I think he could work very well as a foil for both Ollie and Diaby. Can certainly see why Unai likes him. Not sure there’s another player like him that’s remotely gettable.
  21. We’ve got one of the best managers in the world to deal with the Buendia injury. Whilst Unai will clearly be disappointed to lose him, there’s probably a part of him that sees it as an opportunity to implement a change in set up. He’s a ‘let’s see what I can do with the tools I have got first’ type of guy, rather than a manager who has a set template that he tries to get to as soon as possible. But that said, don’t doubt that he will use this situation to improve us, both for now and when Emi comes back.
  22. Ooh me first with the 'not even Saudi can afford his wages' comment
