I'm beginning to wonder if the plan is now to develop Witton Lane stand first with the Liverpool method of building behind first. I know they said this was impossible with The North Stand, but not necessarily Witton Lane. Then do North Stand afterwards.

To be fair even the notice of cancellation of Box Park Villa Live said it was still the intention to proceed with it.

Hopefully we get these big announcements sooner rather than later.

    My hunch too.

I can see him starting on Wednesday, it will be a tough atmosphere, Lille will be up for it and can see them having a lot of the ball, having him as a "target winger" like on Saturday could be a valuable asset

Heskey on the left was clearly ahead of its time!

  3. If Unai can come up with a plan to beat (deservedly) Arsenal at the Emirates, I feel confident he can come up with something for Chelsea at Villa Park.  Things don’t always go to plan of course but he has a plan and will understand what is needed.

Playing like this, away from home against a title challenger is just unthinkable

It certainly made me feel happier about how we will cope with the game in France. 😊

  5. I just don’t know how I feel about last night.  Part of me thinks we missed a big opportunity, part of me is relieved Emi was on top form.  The rest of me is trying to put it in perspective by remembering that 5 years ago we were wondering whether a 2-1 win at home to West Brom would be enough for Wembley…

He wasn't lacking any effort tonight. He chased back really hard. The only one close to winning the ball in the build up to their equalising corner.

    Wait, they equalised? 😮

    Gordon is a problem.

Both penalties against West Ham were a case of him just throwing a leg in front of a clearance without any control of the ball or any intent to get anything except contact.

I think Salah had one against Mings once where he just threw a leg out.

Really, they're free kicks against the defenders but why do the refs keep going for it?

Similar to Arsenal in one of Dean Smith’s last games when Targett was about to clear the ball and the striker popped his leg in front of him but nowhere near the ball.

Really poor goalkeeping there, followed the ball across goal and lost her positioning - if she'd taken 2 or 3 steps less she'd have saved that comfortably, which is a shame as she'd made 2 really good saves beforehand.

1-3 now - how is that not a handball?! 😂

The officiating for that goal was hilarious.

Scanned over the various player ratings in the rags, it's 5s and 6s

Guardian said England are disconnected without kane

Daily mail said he's just not the same player for England as he is for villa

Neither mentioned the fault of that being big nose...

Also, Watkins wasn’t the same player under Gerrard as under Emery.  So there it is again…the manager and the tactics/approach making a difference to how effective the player can be.

Mobile wallets are no quicker than a paper ticket.

For the mobile wallet, you get your phone out, you unlock it, you open the thing on the phone where the ticket is, you open the ticket, you show it at the turnstile.

For the ticket, you pull it out of your pocket, you unfold it, you show it at the turnstile.

The problem area on entry is people who produce the wrong ticket on their phone, or try to get in with their season ticket, or those that wait until they're blocking the way before trying to figure out how to find both their own ticket and the two kids they brought with them.

Yes, there are lots of people who do the driving equivalent of putting their car into gear well after the traffic light is green.

Maybe we should let the transfer thingy go possibly. Guy was a class act for us and in my humble opinion is a Villa legend 👍🏻

I completely agree. I always applauded him when he returned to Villa Park.

  12. I feel about this guy like I did about prime Gareth Barry (before the transfer saga).  So classy, an absolute diamond of a footballer.

As @R.Bear pointed out previously Bailey was poor in his first season but came good

Where has R.Bear heard this? And why has no-one ever mentioned it on Villa Talk before?
