Would we?  When?  Doug would have gone for the cheapest option available and then still moaned about the price.

Doug’s legacy is the real problem here.  It always used to aggravate me when uninformed media would tell us what a great job he had done of redeveloping Villa Park.  He made a pig’s ear of it.  After the Taylor report, a generously costed masterplan incorporating our most iconic asset (the old Trinity) would have seen us with an historic and beautiful stadium which was large enough.

Since Arsenal we've taken five points from four games, that's our worst run this season from a four game spell, but it's not something to be particularly worried about, Champions League qualifers Arsenal, Man Utd, and Newcastle all had two spells last season where they took less points than from a four game period than we have taken in the four games since Arsenal, going on a little run like that once or twice a season is normal for all teams unless they're showing Man City/Liverpool at their best type consistency.

Spurs this season had a run where they took just one point from five games, maybe they won't go on a run as bad as that again, but they will have furthermore spells where they drop points, they aren't going to be consistently brilliant.

8 points from 5 games.  Which you could say is a disallowed goal away from 2 points a game.

2009 says hello 🤣🤣 wasn't we 7 points clear of Arsenal who were 5th. Finished that season 6th...

‘Tis true. But in 2009 we had a manager who ran the legs off the same 11 or 12 players, thought Heskey was our answer to Arshavin and played a rather one-dimensional style (as exciting as it could be when it worked).

I just thought I'd pop my head into this thread to scream into the void for a second about how we've not officially announced a crest yet. Is it just me that's getting a bit frustrated?

Me too, particularly having seen the improved version “leaked” by Bosko chappie.

Maybe we aren't that strapped for FFP then if we're splashing €9m euros on a player who won't even be here this season?

That’s not how it works though.  The €9m plus his wages are divided by the number of years of his contract up to a maximum of 5 and that is the expenditure for FFP per year.

The fans have to be in favour of "material change". What we've seen from the trademarked new badges doesn't constitute material change.

Yes, and I think that is why the club believe they are compliant with the rules.  I am not saying I agree with the loophole, if you can call it that.

The final design is absolutely stunning. The best I’ve seen.

The thing about this design is that, even if there was something else I preferred, this one captures something that Heck’s doesn’t.  It’s hard to put into words.  The claret on blue, the gold border and the lovely shape.

She said 8 times winners Chelsea I don't know how many times and 8 times winners Liverpool I don't know how many times did she even say '7 times winners Aston Villa' once?

To be so close when we’ve had almost seven decades off is pretty amazing!

You have to remember though, that the old Trinity road stand had mosaic badges both on the brick and the roof of the stand that didn’t match the club badge, so I think the thought process of having to redo absolutely everything, especially the Holte mosaics isn’t really critical…

Personally I would leave the Holte mosaics well alone on the basis that it is artwork.

Claret background but gold (using the AU1500 scheme) lion and lettering is clearly the best option:

Try Aston Villa in blue, then you have a bit of consistency with the year and the border.

Edit:  this one is tantalisingly close if we’re going with a shield.

Oh dear.... Is bad press good press. I think not in this instance.

It does appear the club misunderstood the fanaticism of our fanbase to seek and reveal whatever they try to do.

11 Villa shirts hanging on a washing line and all that!

I quite like the claret and blue quarters kit that we played in during the 19th Century.  That doesn't mean that I think our kit for next season should feature claret and blue quarters.

Please delete your message.  We don’t want Heck getting ideas!

"Trust the experts", apparently.  I kinda get the sense that those who moan about the roundel are also those who moan about claret shorts

Well no actually, I bet many roundies (like me) are the ones who think that the shorts should be blue in the event of a colour clash.

P.S. If I’ve misunderstood your point, my apologies (children awake half the night 🤪)

  14. Seeing them all together, it’s so obvious that the Lerner one is miles better than the new one and that the round one is better than both of them.

Look how proud and solid our name appears on the round one.  There’s a “permanent class” look about it.

This is **** beautiful. And I wasn't a massive proponent of the round badge.

    It's literally perfect.

Remember the £ signs under Ellis?  Perhaps we should get a few thousand of these held up at Villa Park!
