If Emi is sold, with or without you mate I think we should get in Bono. Sure would make it a beautiful day at VP, would be a magnificent signing and wouldn't surprise me as we know Lange works in Mysterious Ways.

I know it may sound like a controversial opinion, but some would say that selling Emi and replacing him with Bono would actually be an elevation for the club…

  2. You can definitely see the improvements, 1-4 was an extremely harsh score line imo. Some ruthless finishing, as you would expect playing against one of the top sides in the division. We are starting to bridge the gap, but it’s still a massive gap to bridge - 12 months ago the best we could’ve probably hoped for was a 0-0 backs to the wall draw, but we actually troubled their goal several times this afternoon. On another day we get something from that game imo.

Can't remember last time we had a manager where the whole fan base were united and in full support.

Even under Smith there were always a portion of the fanbase that were skeptical due to him coming from the lower leagues.

    Give it time mate 😉

    What an epitaph...

He was briefly brilliant against Burnley.

    He can surely retire happy.

Please don’t disrespect him with this ‘briefly’ stuff, it was over an hour…

Was an awful player pre injury. You could tell almost instantly.

Touch terrible, no physical strength, no pace. There was nothing that made him a Premier league player.

Are you just going to ignore his Balon d’Or winning performance against Burnley?…

As I said in the Winter transfer thread, Mendes could see it as a perfect steppingstone to a move to Madrid or Barca in the future which is currently not an option. Be harder for him to join one of those from say a P$G, Chel$ea, Manche$ter UTD, Ar$enal, or Manche$ter Citeh…

I’m not sure if you’re using a laptop or not, but I think your ‘s’ key might be broken mate.

I think if touch and finishing could be taught, he'd have improved either by now. And it's not just that, it's his general footballing intelligence, which you either have or you don't.

I get what you’re saying, and I’m not expecting him to be ‘taught’ how to do things as if he’s being taught from scratch, but if we don’t feel that having a coach like Emery can actually improve our players, then why was there all this clamour for a new coach with the credentials of him in the first place, let’s just buy better players all the time?

Everyone noted about the finish in the United cup game, was that something that had been worked on in training or just coincidence? Normally Ollie goes hard and low there and the keeper usually makes the save.

I’m not saying that Ollie Watkins is going to become a 25 goal-a-season striker with a bit of work, but if he can show that composure he showed for the United goal in even 25% more of his 1-on-1’s going forward, then his goal return will definitely rise.

  8. Watching that Yo-Yo test video from the official site, you can see why all the managers we have had pick him every week. If Unai can help him improve the elements of his game where he sometimes struggles (touch, finishing) then he will be a very effective player for us in this new era.

Palace, Fulham, Brighton, Everton, Forest and Leeds have all taken points off them this season

Yes, and by that logic we should too, but you know as well as I do that VP is the place to visit to get yourself back on track! 😢

A manager got Aston Villa, to beat Manchester United, at Villa Park, in the league, in the current century?

    ...

    In his first game?!

    ...

GET THAT MAN A TACKY AWARD AND A GLITZY CEREMONY, STAT!

  11. I feel that our realistic ceiling for this season is 8th. Just behind the Top/SKY 6 and Newcastle (who at 12 points in front are just too far ahead of us to catch imo) in whatever order they finish. I see no reason why we can’t end the season ahead of those other teams, especially now we have the away win monkey off our back (hopefully). This of course depends if we can keep this decent home form going, it’s been too long since we’ve been a difficult team to beat at Villa Park in the PL.

Why don’t we call him Dibu?

Tbh I do tend to on twitter, but that is more because Big Emi uses more characters. Character count is precious when you waffle as much as I do! 😂

Agree with all of this and would add that even predicting him is pointless, because he makes on-the-fly tactical substitutions all the time. If he sees something he doesn't like, he changes it, and he's able to solve because of his know-how.  I've now gone from the worry of having a poor manager in Gerrard to the worry of having a manager we'll struggle to hold on to in Emery. Ah the joys of supporting Villa :D

You make a great point BOF. Far too many times as supporters we have seen our plan A get snuffed out and be forced to watch us lose, where now we have someone who can make the changes that rectify. And it will come from logic, rather than the luck of a moment of magic *TM from a substitution.

not really I said he played well last weekend. I am willing to admit players or managers do a good job

I am a Villa fan so not sure the issue. I praised the trainee when he did OK last season

Was meant in a light hearted way mate 👍🏼
