City fans still lauding the fee everywhere they can. Yeh that's right guys let's forget all the huge fees to himself, dad, agent(yes I know).

It reminds me a bit of the Neymar to Barcelona transfer where his Dad got shitloads.

And Barce got done later on.

    Must be lovely for them…

being able to meet everyone’s release fee…

    Yay for City…

The BR presser was depressing. No signings coming in, he doesn't want to sell Fofana or Madisson but ultimately the decision is up to the club. He respects the position the club is in and is focusing on working with the players he has.

I know he’s not exactly “Mr Charisma”

    but you’re right…

He sounds like he is out of ideas with what he is meant to do when he doesn’t have the financial backing required to build…

No comprendo, if it's not Villa I don't care what happens to our rivals.

It's all good for us if they are in the shit

Leicester haven’t done anything wrong to us over the years for me to show them any spite…

They have looked after our boy Albrighton after our last ownership lied to him and hung him out to dry and he has achieved a lot…

    I quite like Leicester…

Id rather see them do well than some team in Manchester or London…

    Vardy. Ings.

    Christ on a bike.

The last thing United need now is more journeymen footballers.

It's going to get worse before it gets better. They need to sign the right players or no players at all tbh.

They're wage budget is ridiculous, the amount of players they have paid huge fees for and done nothing is ridiculous.

Their recruitment has been bad again as it is non existent but at least they're not chucking money at nothing players.

I think Rabiot will be a decent pick up for the fee FWIW.

I’d barely call Vardy a “journeyman”

Hes fought his way up the leagues to the top of the pile and then ended up winning the top prize with the rank outsider, getting England caps and national recognition… and he’s still there 6 years later…

Hes not exactly Adebayor or Anelka

Rhodri Giggs said she shagged over 10 other footballers apart from Ryan, when they were together. How true that is, we'll never know I guess.

    Feel quite sorry for Rhodri…

Your missus being passed around by footballers like a peace pipe is one thing…

Having your own brother have a go on her while your married to her is about as unforgivable as it gets

I'm baffled as to how Barcelona are being run, just can't make sense of it. They can't even afford to register players they've just brought into the club. 🙄

They and the other super rich are being funded… They are receiving money that all the other clubs aren’t…

They are fiddling the books and the powers that be are saying: “yeah, we will let this slide, just make sure you pay it back”

Where as Rangers, Bury, Bolton, Derby and Deportivo had to go through the mill, and (in a couple of those cases) lose absolutely everything because they didn’t have enough political swing to keep the Ivory Tower mob content…

    What’s going on with them?

Personally a bit gutted for them…

They became “the peoples club” after their miracle title win…

Theyve obviously progressed a bit since then with a couple of cup wins and staying in the top 8/10… but having the Uber rich pick them apart year after year and not being able to attract suitable replacements sucks for them…

Not seen this linked anywhere, but what about Kane to United?

From United’s point of view it could be decent, but unless Kane was getting a huge pay rise then it might not improve his trophy prospects much.

You know what? With all this Arnautovic talk, I am bewildered as to why teams like Utd haven’t taken a punt on Jamie Vardy

That right there is heresy… A cardinal sin…

If I were a professional footballer, I would have made it if I got to kick a ball for our club…

He actually got to… and wanted to leave?

    **** him!

The vitriol aimed at a player, an 18 year old player, for not signing a contract speaks volumes for those wishing him ill or insulting him.

In addition, you understand people have broken contracts / threatened to strike to join Villa before (Benteke), or wound down contracts to then join Villa for free (Kamara).

Its absurd. Have a **** word with yourself.

I don’t get what the problem is here…

As long as it’s to our benefit, I don’t care…

Only my opinion, likely wrong, but we pandered to Carney by signing Caleb. And now, Carney is off, Caleb is 21 in a few months, 2 career goals (including 1 for mighty Corby Town and the other for Northampton). Struggled at Livingston, didn't even score, in fact, in one of the games last season on loan there he was subbed on and subbed off within seven mins for reasons of having a bad attitude / being out of his depth. Talking of scoring, there is more chance of me scoring a date with Kate Upton, tonight, than there is of Caleb ever making it at this club. Given the age and possible lack of development, and since I am a petty sort who holds grudges easily, I would sell him tomorrow, even if all I could get was a KitKat or a Bounty in exchange, I'd take it. Caleb is not needed so much any more and we have better, younger forwards with more prospects. All the best, either way, and good luck for the season for the lad.

20m for a prospect with a handful of premier league appearances in which he hasn't exactly set the world on fire. Football has officially gone mad.

He might go on to be a world beater and 20m will seem like peanuts in the future but history would suggest there's more chance of his career going the other way.

We’ve all done it in Football Manager…

Made another profile at a rich club just to buy all of our offcasts at inflated prices…

Didnt realise Purslow knew how to do it in real life…

  13. Fingers crossed for him and for us that he can continue the way he has performed in pre season.

Last season he had a bit of a shocker with injuries, management upheaval etc.

Perhaps the 5 subs rule that has been brought in to favour the Chumpions League sides might be a blessing in disguise for us also as we can utilise the other legitimately good players we have and involve the rest of the squad…

Including players like Sanson and Traore who I am certain have their parts to play as well as the youngsters who need valuable game time…

I know some people doubt his playing ability (not me), but I doubt anyone can deny what a class act he is off the pitch.

He’s a fantastic role model to our younger fans and a wonderful ambassador for our club

That's why the game is gone, if they were a Bury/Glasgow Rangers they would been wound up by now! But its Barca, one of the Super sides. FFP does not apply to them, as they know UEFA/FIFA would never ban them from Europe!

    Yep…

UEFA/FIFA were happy to let Deportivo, Parma, Rangers et al. take their medicine… and they were all in Europe at one point or another in (relatively) recent times…

But not Barca or Man City… Heaven forbid

It's their fan's complete ass hats, think they are a big club because they got a big attendance in league 1..... Was a toss up between them and Albion. They have Steve Bruce lol!

Liverpool are second because i hate their fans, always the victims and i hate Klopp, such a whiney twit.

But Barca are becoming a club that is very detestable! Never going to happen but would love it if they went bust!

FIFA and UEFA would never let that happen…

They have got debts that dwarf what Bolton, Derby, Bury and Glasgow Rangers owed combined…

But they are “too big”, “too iconic”, “too popular”

Strings will always be pulled to protect those who have spent enough money to grease the right palms so they can sit at the top table…

"Treating" a player what way? 🙄

Get a grip man. Even if the players were reading these threads, which is highly unlikely, tbh it might be the best thing that ever happened to them. Nobody is being abused here. A player who clearly doesn't want to stay is merely being shown the door. It's transactional, and yes I'll reiterate, he can **** off if he wants to.

Modern football players are insulated from the real world and wrapped in so many layers of cotton wool -- God forbid they should encounter a perspective or opinion that doesn't wash with their egocentric perception of the world.

These guys from a young age are surrounded by yes men and hangers-on telling them their shit doesn't stink and hoping for some of that residual status or wealth to rub off on them or trickle down.

Meanwhile you're here talking down to people who think the whole thing is absurd and these precocious young talents need to come back down to earth a bit and face reality. This type of "criticism is abusive" stance only serves to sanitize football and ensure nobody ever says No to these young players or tries to rein them in.

    Awesome comment!

Fortunately Carney is not the only talented player emerging from the academy so his inevitable loss will not be as impactive.

Luckily we have the likes of Archer, Ramsey, Iroegbunam, Philogene-Bidace, Azaz, Barry, Chrisene, Feeney and KKH to name but a few making real headway into first team football and they seem to acknowledge the realism of breaking into top flight football.

The academy is delivering now and will do for the foreseeable.

Good luck to Carney but the grass isn’t always greener.

    Great post…

I agree with everything except this…

I'd let him rot in the first team with El Ghazi and Wesley

    That’s a bit harsh…

El Ghazi did a lot for us but we have outgrown him, and Wesley got his career with us cut short by Ben Mee…

They deserve to be treated miles better than some little shit who thinks he deserves first team, senior level football after doing sweet FA every time he has been given the opportunity…

and then thinks that he has the divine right to such an opportunity at Barcelona or Dortmund… and we don’t deserve the maximum possible valuation from him…

Sometimes I really hate the concept of the Bosman rule… and when I say “sometimes” I mean whenever it doesn’t work in our favour

I love how we're all enamoured with Bouba, when he has done the same thing to Marseille. It doesn't matter if you don't think he's good enough to get into the team, it's his prerogative as a professional to assess his options, as long as he fulfills his contract obligations. Questioning his attitude is not on at all imo.

Yeah… but Bouba signed for us… for free…

Carney is looking to leave us… on a free…

and we are all, allegedly, Villa fans…

We should want what’s best for our club… not what’s best for individuals who think they can get better than us without us being able to get the maximum financial benefit from it…
