General Next Manager Topic?? (everything other than Lambert)
Folski replied to donnie's topic in Villa Talk
How so? We let a tiny club in Norway make a fool out of us, a tiny club in England make a fool out of us this time last year, then we stooped to Birminghams level in appointing McLeish, defending his decision to leave them on grounds that the job was untenable and going to a trial to sort out comp for him. Not including the empty seats, protest etc. We have no squad bar 8 players and a few kids, no manager, no contact with the fans. Some one said it a few days ago and it didnt get half as much attention as it should what we need is a Peter Kenyon type because at the end of the day that man is always going to earn his wages no matter who he crosses or how much he is hated. Randy & PF are worried about stepping on people's toes. -

We need some one who can transform the club from top to bottom in about 2 to 3 years. We need someone who can come in and change every aspect of the club. However we will not get this man in my opinion. -

When you put it like this how does Villa need RL to bail them out 2 years in a row to a cost of 20 - 40 million each year? The squad is thread bare and we sold all the family Silverware which got money back in. Also we are 19th in the world club league table released last week. How are we loosing so much money ... cant be high wages as we only have 8 real first team players from above. Id imagine the fact we were paying the likes of Heskey, Knight, Beye, Cuellar, Harewood, Davies, Sidwell, Shorey, Reo-coker ridiclous wages while none of them were really first team players (obviously at different times). -

Of the current squad right now for me personally, the only established premiership players are Given, Hutton, Warnock, Dunne, Collins, Ireland, Bent, Agbonlahor. I left out Petrov for obvious reasons. That is 8 players, people are talking about getting rid of four of them. Out of the rest of the squad I cant imagine Albrighton, Delfouneso, Delph, Clark, Bannan, Weimann, Stevens, Lichaj, Herd, Baker, Marshall, Johnson, Burke, Williams, Gardner, Curruthers are on big wages? Leaving only Makoun & Holman. Is it just me or is that squad wafer thin. We need a manager who can get good money for the back four if they are to be sold and then can not only replace them but add a hell of a lot to the team. In my opinion we need about £40mil. -

Martinez is so overrated right now, cant believe Liverpool want him. He'll be gone by Christmas. Come crawling back to bottom of the table Wigan and get relegated only to narrowly miss out on the playoffs and Dave Whelan will realize he is not the 2nd coming and sack him. -

Kevin Mac jesus times are tough, dont think he'll get it though, in fairness he probably applied and they thought, out of respect for his time at the club he deserved an interview. Last time he shat his pants and said it was too big for him I dont see whats changed. -
Staying at Wigan: Roberto Martinez (Wigan Athletic)
Folski replied to VillanousOne's topic in Villa Talk
Neither will in my opinion, RM could very easily relegate WAFC next year and Roman has stated he wants to spend another 500m making Chelsea competitive and I dont think he sees RDM as the man surely if he did he would have offered him a contract before he went on hols last Friday with his contract up this Thursday. -

Ive been saying it since the OGS thing went belly up that RDM is the most logical choice for this board. The only two appointments the board have made have all won trophies. McLeish - Rangers 2 SPL, 2 Scotish Cups & 3 Scotish League Cups, Birmingham - League Cup. Houiller - 3 Ligue 1, 1 UEFA, FA & 2 League Cups. RDM now has an FA Cup & Champions League medal on his Cv and the board will go for him imo ahead of managers who merely have survived in The Premiership. People talking about left field appointments are kidding themselves in my opinion, the board clearly dont want to gamble with someone who does not have a knowledge of English football. -

Didn't he relegate wolves ? Nope never made the play offs, he did draw 34 of his 76 league games in charge and in his only full season at the club they only scored 50 goals in 46 league games in the championship. Why his name keeps being banded about is completely and utterly beyond me. -

Odds for manager means very little, they just reflect betting patterns. Yesterday it was mis reported that Guardiola would be looking to take a month away from football (actually said months). This transpired to lots of bets on him being the next chelsea boss. I'm well aware of that fact, but that being said I still can not see RDM getting the Chelsea job, regardless of how long or short his odds are. I think Abramovic will not want to sack the man who brought him the holy grail so will not give him the job but a nice little cheque in his back pocket as a thank you. RL & PF then in my opinion will see a chance of appointing a CL winning manager and if RDM doesnt think hes too big for the job hell take it. -

I know Ive been rambling on about Roberto Di Matteo but can I just state that its not because he'd be my first choice, far from it actually, it just that, the board in their previous appointments have gone for managers with PL experience and have won trophies in England, Di Matteo now ticks this box. The focal point of my post was Pep Guardiola has shortened up noticable for the Chelsea job today I do not know what he was yesterday but I do no Capello was 10/3 second fav and Pep is a mere 2/1 short now generally. This has had an obvious effect on RDMs position in the market pushing him out from a 4/7 shot to even money. The fact both Kalou and Bosingwa were allowed to leave for me means RDM will not be given the Chelsea job, as both played more than bit parts under his tenure. Infact I do believe he was to jet out on holidays today so it looks quiet clear he will not be given the job as they had all week to sort it while he was in the country. I cling to the hope Solskjaer is in place this time next week but alas it does not look to be. UTV -

I thought that initially but the more I think of it the more Im warming to him to be honest its not like he employed those tactics against QPR ( or Napoli for the matter) when he won 6-0 and I dont think Chelsea would have had a chance had the tried to play Barca or Bayern at the respective games. -

Still reckon its goning to be Roberto Di Matteo. This day next week his contracts up with Chelsea and I for one cant see him being offered a new one as he was clearly not consulted with the letting go of Bosingwa & Kalou who were often used by him during his tenure as interim first team coach, the board will see it as a chance to employ a manager who has won the champions league yet also meets theyre young, vibrant statement. RDM by June 5th. -

I agree with this RL is at a big point in his Villa career and he needs to shit or get off the pot imo! My concern about Lerner and appointing managers - is does he put the man hours in to snare a top bloke. I could be totally wrong - but does he jet in on the tuesday - with no real target in mind - but hoping to have 'a' manager by the friday. Its a bit like queuing all night in the January sales for the bargain priced 3d tv - only to be told 'sorry sir all gone' - but then you look around 'good lord £300 off the deluxe coffee maker' - Ill take it....... So Lerner jets in thinking Ill get the 'Martinez' - oh shit hes signed for pool - but whats that you have ? 'good lord - A mick Mccarthy' I ll take it !!! I dont know if I could agree with that Smetrov, but he has appointed people who are supposed to do this for him except Faulkner has done a pretty shit job so far in everything to do with the on the pitch side of things Think your right with Faulkner, but would you send your wife out to buy you a new set of golf clubs? Thats what happened when the 'Other guy" got appointed. -

I can see why you think that - But im hoping Faulkner doesn't fancy a battle with Abramovich. Surley the job Curbs did at Charlton is comparable with Martinez at Wigan ? .......Come on Randy, trust me on this....! Not a chance Curbs had Charlton 4th well after Christmas and they never looked like getting relegated till he left. As for a battle with Roman, RDM will be a free man next week with a nice bonus cheque in his back pocket. -

Think we have to look at the last two appointments, i.e. Houiller & McLeish. Get a feel for what the board are looking for both had won multiple trophies in England, France & Scotland. While McLeish clearly played the my job has become untenable card meaning he thought he could leave compo free. It is for this reason I think Roberto Di Matteo will be in charge next season. -

For me personally, the fact Martinez is even being considered for the Liverpool job shows how far that club has fallen. The names that were being thrown around the time Houiller left were of very high callibre, Jose, Rafa etc. I suppose the premiership has gone back an awful lot since then. I do have one question, if anyone could answer it, why oh why is Deadly Doug being involved in these managerial pursuits. Ive no doubt in my mind he would have been against McLeish.
