Watkins incredible and obvious MOTM but an absolutely monolithic performance from Konsa today. Such a fantastic defender. Torres calm as you like with him too.
Everyone put in a fantastic shift - epic result after a game full of aggression, conviction and desire.

You've considerably elevated his status there

Who said anything about winning the league? We might qualify for the Europa through the league.
We qualify for the europa, we have more money, we attract better players, we then have a better squad which then give us a better chance of winning a cup.
No - we must only think in extremes. That's the modern way. We try to win the league or we try to win the cups. There is nothing in between, no sense of balance to be achieved, no criticality to the decision-making process (such as starting an internationally experienced and predominantly first-choice team at home to a poor side in a third round League Cup game...)

He started them. But what game has he spent the week preparing for? Everton or Brighton?
Yeah it's just one or the other, isn't it. Unai is an idiot and can only prepare for one game at a time and picked the wrong one. Duh, stupid Unai!

He hasnt been on the bench for the last 2 games
Yup - this guy doesn't even know that there's clearly an issue with Moreno yet sees fit to comment on the decision to play McGinn at left-back as a contributing factor to our loss today.

I mean, it was one of the issues. He was completely lost there.
Was he a natural there? No. Should it have been a significant issue? No. Other players' awful performances and individual mistakes cost us, not McGinn at left-back.

Since when the feck was McGinn a full back ?
He's not. But that's not why we lost, is it.

Yeah, I don't know where this idea has come from that he "threw" the game. Konsa, Torres, Cash, Luiz, McGinn and Diaby all started. Meanwhile Tielemans, Bailey and Duran regularly feature from the bench. When you factor in injuries/players returning from injury, it really wasn't *that* weakened.
Yup, let's be frank: "threw the game" is absolute steaming bollocks. A truly ridiculous and idiotic suggestion.

So did I until I saw McGinn playing LB, what the actual F*** was that all about
That wasn't the issue today.

It wasn't a massively weakened line-up today.
Captain started. Current first choice centre back pairing. First choice right back.
Midfield should have been fine - plenty of international pedigree. Unfortunately both Dendoncker and Tielemans put in absolute stinking performances.
Not that Unai couldn't have done more, but I don't put this on him. And he's still the best manager we've had in decades.
-
Obviously there's a good player in there but an atrocious performance today. Dreadful.

Stevenage Leander turned up today. Very frustrating.

Is Diaby playing? Haven't heard his name mentioned
Would help if we could get him into the game.

3 more PL teams out tonight. city can't win it.
Am I missing something here?
Unless you've got the EFL Trophy (and therefore PL U21 teams) mixed up with the League Cup?

Ref favoring them. Surprise.

McGinn is well off his best today.

Well worked set piece. Cash must feel like the world's against him today.

I'd definitely take the massive offer for Salah if I were Liverpool. Brillliant player but clearly at the start of a decline now and they already have other very strong forwards.

We don't want that!
I didn't say we did. I've no doubt we'll finish top half.

Would be nice to have two good strikers though.
It's not as straight forward as that though, is it? Watkins is a better striker than Archer. So he'll play in our best XI. And I can't see them working together.

Well we don’t know who we may have tried to sign, but Ferran Torres is one obvious option who would’ve been a great addition. Jonathon David, maybe?
We knew our biggest failing last year was in the final third and that’s where we most needed to add quality - and as seen with Diaby you get what you pay for.
Ferran Torres isn't really a central striker and either way, neither are coming in to play backup to Ollie and I'm also not convinced that either are better.
I'd love to sign a Diaby-level player as a centre-forward but I don't think those two are that player. Anyone that is, isn't coming to us - there aren't that many number 9s out there at an elite level.

That's it! Wouldn't look out of piece grinning at an intersection, unpinned grenade in hand.
Which would still result in less destruction than Villa's attacking performance today...
