I honestly think it's a tangle/coming together rather than a foul. 

Very surprised it didn't go to VAR but can totally understand the ref's view in the (very fast paced) moment.

I've been massively frustrated at him for a while but some of the overreaction is a joke. And besides, we don't have other options lately!

He's been poor for a couple of months now compared to the standards he's capable of but this sort of reaction smacks of either mental incapacity or extremely short-term reactivity. (Or, as is often the case, a large dose of each.)

Not been following the thread, but would I get crucified if I said that objectively I think the ref has been quite strong?

Ref in a big atmosphere thinks he's got to play up to it. Exactly the opposite of what a referee should do.
