There could be a few reasons why this transfer is taking longer than anticipated, including several harmless things that don't put the deal at risk, but for some reason I'm concerned. Probably because CH is the player most likely to do a good job in a position we are so desperate for.

But how come the Barnsley illness only effects Hourihane? Bree seems done and dusted. Gotta be more than just an illness.
Got my prayer mat out on this one!
The signing I'm currently most concerned about. I'd also be praying if I thought it would do any good.

It's important to remember how young this lad is - this wouldn't just be his first footballing move, he'd be moving out of his parents house, leaving Barnsley and living on his own for the first time - he's only 19 and it's a big step. Give him some time to settle.
I agree. We should sign his current captain to help him settle in.

So he'll be back for the Brentford game next Tuesday do you think? A week should be enough to get home, rest for a day or so and then train with the lads shouldn't it? I've no idea about these things.
He will have been keeping fit during training and won't be too tired from playing (1 game plus 15 minutes as a sub) in the last 2 weeks. No excessive travel or time differences to worry about either. If ever you have to lose a player to an international tournament, Kodjia's 1 game played and quickest possible return with no jet lag has been almost ideal for Villa. He should be able to start against Brentford next week, imo.

Maybe. It takes me 2 days to grow it and I'm 35. :-(
I'd prefer that. My 5 o'clock shadow appears around lunchtime.

Noticed a few Barnsley fans on Twitter claiming the bree photo is fake as he was clean shaven on Saturday night - surely not photoshopped?
Looking closely at the photo, it's no more than a bit of stubble and shadow and certainly not approaching a beard. I expect even 19 year old lads can grow a '5 o'clock shadow' between Saturday and Tuesday!

how many chairs are at Bodymoor Heath?
Remember the days of guessing how many club representatives would be at the press conference then deducting that from the number of chairs that were first in view to deduce whether that meant a single, double or triple player announcement?

Chairs. Let us know how many.

I can't think of one plater we have who is worth the salary he is on given that there are players all over the championship performing much better on much much less.
Need to pull you up on that one; given the awards our hospitality department have won.

Possibly.

Didn't see this game either, but based on the tid bits I've seen, and a random twitter post a Villa fan made was "Gabby had one of the best games I have seen in years, but is still getting slated by Villa fans" or something along those lines. Guess that sums it all up.
Did you mean tit bits?

I think Elphick's getting a bit of unfair stick to be honest. He's not as good as the other two, but he's not as bad as people are making out.
Whilst Elphick arrived with a decent footballing reputation (certainly for our current level), unfortunately he seems to have suffered from the footballers equivalent of a golfer's 'yips'. He made a couple of early mistakes that were punished and it got to him. Ever since, he seems to be trying too hard which has lead to more errors and compounded his problem. There are way too many instances of the ball getting stuck under his feet or letting the ball bounce unnecessarily, for Elphick to be considered as a first choice pairing. Trouble is, whenever he's been given a run of games and had the chance to get his confidence back, he's made an occasional mistake and gone back to square one again.

Yeah, no idea. I mean, I can't imagine Barnsley are loaded so the money might be important to them... but £1m still seems too cheap these days.
Even if a player's contract is ending in 6 months, competing clubs can dictate what a players sale value is. If Connor is determined to join Villa this month, if not, he will see out his contract and leave for free in June, then Barnsley don't have much to stand on. The deal might be hanging on whether Barnsley are willing to take the loss of a fee in exchange for four more months of Hourihane's services.

Such sad news.
I met Graham a couple of times and he was very polite to me as a young man somewhat in awe of him. I was also at Goodison for his final game in his most successful period at Villa and remember the constant chanting of his name. It left the Everton fans stunned.
My thoughts are with Graham's family and friends.

Toilet shenanigans again today. I went to go for a dump and there was the deputy manager putting loads of 'Damaged, do not use' tape over one of the cubicles. Turned out someone had ripped out the toilet and lent it on its side. **** knows who, how or why, but there was bog water everywhere and it stank terribly. It can't have been accident, surely. Some people must really hate work.

The Communist party in Portugal also pushing for a referendum. Unlikely to get it in the short term.
Can't see how Italy leaving would affect the UK as much as Italy and the remaining EU members, especially if the UK has already left.

We already do have a thread
It's called US politics
Is that what the Bank of England were referring to - Trump and the US is now a bigger risk to the UK economy than leaving the EU?Blimey!

If 'brexit' is no longer the biggest risk to the UK economy, what is the biggest risk and can we have a new thread about it?

It's a good question. Bree is not a 17 year old that has been performing for a League One or Two team. He's 19 and has playing well for a team currently above us in the league. I'll trust SB's judgement on when to play Bree but, fitness permitting, I'd like to think it will be sooner rather than later.
