No I didn't think he was great on Sunday and certainly not on the level of Teilemans or Rodgers in midfield.  Lost the ball in dangerous areas a couple of times, gets smothered trying to dribble or turn out in tight areas and his passing hasn't been great either.

He's had great games this season, and a fans favourite but I don't think he's been playing well at all recently. It's just my opinion

    It's definitely a game of opinions.👍

Yes, Sunday wasn't a perfect game from McGinn but I thought he played very well overall. I watched a few Bournemouth fan channel reactions to the game on YouTube. A couple highlighted McGinn as playing 'fantastic'. Again, all just opinions.

My memory is that he's been back for 4 games and been great in two and not great in two.

That's very fair to say. I was quoting @avfc1982am saying 'he's been in pretty poor form since he came back from the ban' which seemed a strange thing to highlight after the great game McGinn had on Sunday. Perhaps erratic form, although I'm hoping his last game is a sign that he's settling back into his best.

It's weird because for a few matches in certain countries we won't be able to have Betano on the shirt.  I guess there is still enough value for them to pay £20m a year.

Time for Acorns on our shirts again, hopefully.

Great character and has had some great games this season but, I think he's been in pretty poor form since he came back from the ban.

    Apart from Sunday, presumably?

How is that possible when their own official records show that Emi only got 1 yellow card last night 🙄

Possibly because the match report, including the one yellow, doesn't include the shoot out?

I was confused about the second yellow too, as I didn’t know the rule about them resetting after the 90/120mins. So essentially he was booked, then that game was over, then during the penalties he was booked again. Although I don’t agree with why he was booked, I understand it.

What I don’t get is why some seem to think he will miss the SF first leg? Is that because of the total yellows accrued to this point, because I thought they reset after the QFs? Or is it because two yellows in one game, usually equals a red, and therefore he misses a game…? Because that can’t be the case either, because the first yellow was done, then expired. Then the second yellow was done, but they don’t equal a red, so why would he miss a game?

there’s probably something obvious I’m missing but I don’t get why Emi would miss a game?

As already stated in this thread, it appears suspensions do carry through but the yellow card count is wiped.

Much better than Moreno at the moment, right decision from Unai to swap then out.

It's great to have a good alternative in a position and  to have a manager able to see the change is necessary. Hopefully it will also keep Moreno determined to prove his worth when/if his chance comes around again.

  8. If the previous Villa crest/badge consultations and subsequent result are anything to go by, I'm expecting the new stadium location to be an average of our fans' home position. Unfortunately our sizeable support in New York and the rest of the US is likely to skew the result to somewhere just off the coast of Cornwall.

The two go together no? Stadium will increase revenues and with new PL rules our revenues will be directly correlated to supporting Emery's team with the cap of 70% revenue to wages.

Yes, but there's different ways of increasing revenue. Increase stadium capacity via a move or expansion of Villa Park to get more fans paying, let's say £50 each, or keep demand exceeding supply and charging say £70 for those fortunate enough to get inside an undeveloped and undersized Villa Park.

He is still CEO and one that has done fantastic work  since he came in it seems .

True fact - his brother is the best mate of my brother and we all grew up in houses just a couple of minutes walk away from each other.

We haven't made a Betano announcement.

We haven't made an Adidas announcement for that matter.

In fact we haven't announced we've cancelled the North Stand.

    Announcements isn't really our thing.

Yep, I'm half expecting us all to turn up for a future season's first home game only to see an A4 sized poster stuck outside every closed turnstile stating -

'Aston Villa FC have moved and will announce the new stadium location in a few weeks. You are welcome to follow the team's progress via multiple media outlets. You have not been charged for reading this notice, however future unnecessary visits to Villa Park may be charged.'

  12. The new board appointments make me slightly less nervous that whilst NSWE were good in supporting Emery's team to achieve footballing success, they were also happy to milk more cash from those of us of an increasing fan base that could fit inside an unexpanded and increasingly outdated Villa Park.

Aren't most of those buildings factories, warehouses etc? ie, the buildings of viable businesses? How much is it going to cost to buy a dozen or more businesses?

As unlikely it is to happen, surely they wouldn't buy the businesses but pay for relocation costs and any temporary loss of business compensation.

Was sat in the middle of the Trinity last night so had a clear view of Unai and noticed that when we were 1-0 up in the first half and having a few chances (but not converting them) he just looked really pissed off and agitated, despite the crowd at the time being in good spirits. You really get the sense that he's genuinely not happy unless we're about 4 or 5 goals up.

I expect Unai will have had a dozen or so scenarios he'd planned for, including the dream of rotating players at 4-0 up, helping today's game and in turn, the return leg. Emery would be frustrated that every unconverted opportunity would likely see his top choice scenarios disappearing.

Mings has had bad injuries in the past that hurt his career. Think he be OK

Agreed. Of all the players, I suspect Ty is the best prepared mentally to bounce back; both from previous experience and a very strong will to play and perform.

Investing £150m in a new stand today is exactly that. An investment.

When you sell the club in 5 years time of so you get £200m + more for the club than you otherwise would because the future owner won't look at the North Stand and think he's going to have to spend £200m+ on replacing that.

Investing in infrastructure increases the value of that asset. Simples.

Plus the overall value of the club increases because the annual revenue has increased (from the extra ticket sales and increased hospitality a new stand provides).

I'm still at a loss why the new North Stand was canned. If, and it's a big if, the next 6 months sees Villa announcing a bigger plan, I'll be saying 'ahhh, that's why'. If not, it still points to the club squeezing every drop out of us in the same, or very similar, conditions.

I would think they are back for pre-season training, aren’t they?

If I had to guess, based on the information and images made public - Buendia fairly likely, Mings less likely.
