Really glad I'm not in the UK at the moment. All I can say is that if by some small miracle we ever rejoin I will be having a massive fireworks party and you are all invited, apart from Tony obvs

Even though he screams of a Grant Holt, Simon Dawkins, Tom Carroll type of signing, there's still part of me that believes he's going to be some kind of inspired signing that will fire us to safety.
-
I mean they spent £15.5m on him so he must be good, right? RIGHT?!

Considering I thought we were going without a third striker, I'll take it. Having a look at his stats he did well in Spain so I'm hoping he suddenly clicks well with our team...

I hope he was just briefly trolling us.
But, if we didn't sign anyone and got relegated I agree that serious questions need to be asked as it's a huge gamble.
It's still on the telegraph's transfer page. I think we'll have to accept that's it today

A very good defender and a brilliant leader. £26 million seems an absolute bargain now, I bet Eddie Howe wishes he still had him.

I'm going to be so annoyed when he gets dropped for Drinkwater at the weekend.

DS said he hasn’t started him because his fitness isn’t where he wants it to be. And that Drinkwater was only subbed because it ‘wasn’t his game’.
I find this rhetoric about fitness strange. Is it a euphemism?
Like Kodj not being fit actually meant: ‘I don’t like him because he’s lazy’.Luiz not being fit means ‘he makes mistakes and I want to make his desperate to get into the team’
It not being Drinkwater’s game means ‘He is clearly gassed but I don’t want to say’
Perhaps but then again I doubt he would ever come out and say publicly that he should have started Luiz. Think it's a bit of saving face and not throwing Drinkwater under the bus.

Possibly season defining win and people having a pop at a player. Classic VT
A player being asked to play completely out of position, too. Clearly not a striker but he gave his all over the last few games. Will be pleased to see him back on the wing against Leicester.

Also remember when fans (me included) said that it was a pointless signing and Nyland should keep his place? Shows how easily opinions can be swayed.

The best I’ve seen him play for us.
Agreed, broke it up and played it simple. Was noticeable that he played in much more of a box to box role too. He will be crucial if we want to stay up.

Thank god he can't start the next game. Playing him on reputation at the moment.
-
Thought he was poor in the first half, but my word did he make up for it.
-
Love how calm he is with the ball, never looks flustered. He will be massive for us this season.

Does anyone actually believe Hause and Konsa are better than Engels? God knows what's gone on there but it needs sorting out. Other than that a real lack of quality with our final ball. One positive is that Nakamba has had his best half for quite a while.

I suspect that by the end of the season he will be looking good, the problem is we don’t have the time to get him match fit. It’d be typical Villa for him to start playing brilliantly just after we’ve been relegated

I have to say it’s very weird looking at the first page of this thread and seeing Joe Lolley commenting that he hopes Jack will make it. I have to admit even though I could see he had talent, I never thought he’d be this good.

Our worst home defeat in the PL era apparently, worse than Reno Garde and Lambert.
We lost 6-0 at home to Liverpool.

We need wingers too.
We do but those are the 3 that seem pretty much nailed on and if there are 4 that are close then I hope the fourth is a striker.

Hung out to dry but if we were hoping to bring in a similar player to McGinn then we've backed the wrong horse.

4 in (or close) apparantly (according to someone wot heard DS post match interview) - so Reina is one - who are the other 3???
Vida, Louie Barry and hopefully a decent striker

If Conor Hourihane falls in a forest and there's no one there to hear him, does he make a sound?

No idea.
Said in his replies it was Vassilev. Bit of a weird statement.

To me it looked like Smith binned him off after that Leicester game, but given he seemed half fit and plenty of other players had similarly poor games it's one I've never understood.
