    Perhaps he was trying to maintain their self-confidence rather than just scream at them and tell them they're useless? Maybe he is aware there are some young kids in the squad and that yelling at them would do more harm than good? Not saying that's the case, just providing an alternative to the "take everything you hear about Houllier and believe the worst because it suits your view of the man" approach.

    From what I could tell the ref didn't spot it and made the decision based on collaboration with the assistant ref and the 4th official.

    Well, I think we are going to struggle to stay up regardless unless there is some money spent on a striker and an imposing midfielder at the bare minimum. If he does sack Houllier someone has to be ready to step in immediately and with some players lined up. In order to have that Lerner/Fitzgerald have to have been talking to someone like Jol behind Houllier's back which would be very ruthless, and one wonders if Randy has the capacity to be ruthless and duplicitous in that way.

    Frustrating game. Defending well and Sunderland appear toothless but our midfielders, particularly Petrov, appear intent on giving the ball away at any opportunity. Wasting chances could come back to haunt us, but I half expected them to score from those 2 corners at the end of the half, so maybe that corner has turned after all.

    I predict that whatever the score, we supporters will spend the last ten minutes of the match with our bottom cheeks clenched together.

    The best part about the Clark goal is as soon as Albrighton got the ball and looked up at the scrimmage of bodies in the box it was Clark who raised his hand and asked for the ball and Albrighton smacked him on the forehead with it. The fact that these kids want to be counted when the game is in the balance is very reassuring.

    We are such a different team with Heskey in attack - he stands front and centre to receive the ball - when Gabby leads the line he is usually to be found deep on the left wing. I thought Gabby did a decent job on the left today as well - his work rate was far higher than we are used to seeing from him.

    I thought Terry was lucky not to get sent off for his lunge on Young just prior to him scoring - the one he got a yellow for - he clearly went into the tackle with two feet aimed at Young. Friedel was superb today and not at fault for any of the goals. Was very proud of the lads for all their desire and heart and finally showing themselves to be men with something to play for other than their paychecks.

    Just watched the finale tonight and at the end at the birthday party she says something to him that could be construed as her knowing or suspecting the truth - "You must be happy, too, now that this is all over" - which could refer to the Quinn/Liddy business - or the Lumen/Chase business - but it was enough for a double take. I really enjoyed this season though. While there were some weak/flat spots, I thought the tension of the pursuit by Liddy was enough to keep it ticking over.
