  1. martin o'neill brought him to celtic on loan, so MON knows all about him, so i would have full faith in him MONs decision to bring him in he will be closer to 6 million, they bought him for 6 mill, where would the 2 - 4 mill profit come from, as he hasn't exactly lit up liverpool and they will probably be looking to sell if they get the funds expected to bring higher quality strikers in. And he is good enoguh for the current liverpool, but they are aiming to become the top team in england and not just settle for 3rd or 4th place, so if hes good enough for the current liverpool hes certainly good enough for the current villa.
  2. he was quoted in 4 4 2 magazine saying that he grew up in leeds and is an arsenal fan, as someone else said the only link to birmingham is that his mom gave birth whilst visiting relatives
  3. connery or brosnan thoguht brosnan was very good in goldeneye can't remember many bond films that clearly tbh, bar goldeneye which i watched again recently
  4. i don't want to ruin the thread by making a debate or anything, but i do think having randy and nike decide the kit is the way forward i mean the main two factors we want is style and it being traditional randy understands tradition and will have researched on villas history, as tradition is very important to him and putting that together with nike who will have world class designers, will make sure its stylish and traditional. Its a perfect formula for a great kit!
  5. General, i thought i would add my thank you to you and randy once again, as i haven't really shown my appreciation since on the first page when you first joined villlatalk and that was only a very short post. I'm one of the slightly younger generation of fans (17), so i haven't had to endure as many bad times as the elder members on this forum, but i haven't been old enough to really enjoy any success with villa either. I've been a season ticket holder for about 5 seasons, and last season was by far the most depressing, i use to see going to see the villa as almost a chore, and when at the game i would find myself day dreaming not even concentrating on the games, due to the poor showing on the pitch and just the general unhappy atmosphere around the stadium. But now there has been hope brought back to aston villa, even if we are on a losing run i am looking forward to the games with a smile on my face and checking on the internet everyday, wanting to hear and discuss the latest news with the club. I want to thank you and randy for that. It really is amazing whats happened at villa park in recent times, we've got a brilliant owner, who wants the best for the club, and is not just thinking about his pocket or doing his best to take the spotlight away from villa and onto himself. we have a great professional board, who have fantastic experience and reputations, and a certain one who is willing to speak to the fans over the internet, it really is amazing. We have probably one of the best managers around in martin o'neill, who would have thought we would be able to bring someone like him in at the end of last season? we are building the new training ground, we have just made a deal with a brilliant kit maker, and we have brought in players who would never have even considered joining aston villa before this season. Another very important thing we now have, is renewed hope and ambition, its brilliant to think its not just the fans who are dreaming of winning trophies and being the best club in the world. Its also great to know that we are willing to compete in trying to bring quality players to the club, and not just feeding on other teams scraps by buying mediocre players who will just do, and not improve the team. i feel like i've died and gone to heaven with what has happened with this club, and i can't wait for the time when we finally bring home to villa park some silverware. so thank you general and randy and everyone involved for turning this club around, and finally bringing ambition and hope back to villa park - to be the very best. on a side note general, sorry if this has been mentioned but are the fans going to vote on what our kit is going to be next season?, or are randy and nike going to decide? i think it would be better if the professionals in nike and randy decide on the kit as i'm sure the best one willl be chosen, and it will also stop arguments on here!
  6. the only one i dislike is chelsea because of there cheating, but i have to say i like having some of the best players in the world in the premiership. but i support all of the top 4 when they are playing unless against us obviously. Just so they keep the middle tier teams in reach, so we can get a late push for europe i probably dislike arsenal the least but i have no bad feeling for any of liverpool, man u or arsenal
  7. keane is not past his best, thats just like saying SWP is, they just aren't playing regularly before he got injured he was class, one moment that sticks in my mind was when he raped boulahrouz down the left and put a cross in for lennon to score. as i say him and SWP full of confidence would be lethal, and martin's the best manager to instill that into them.
  8. im not saying its true, im just saying he seems pretty sure we would make a bid keanes already stated his admiration for MON, and how everyone he knows whos worked with him has loved it, and i reckon either him or defoe will leave during the summer i don't know whether MON would go for him though, he won't have a bottomless pit of money and we already have moore, maloney, gabby and young who can play the pacy striker role. but i would love it if he came here, plenty of passion and as with SWP if he got regular games and was full of confidence he is a joy to watch.
  9. i would love us to get keane and SWP it seems nailed on with mr howell that we will go in for keane, and MON's said he might go back in for SWP i hope we sign someone who can play the carew role as well, as i think when hes injured he will be sorely missed (anyone but harewood and heskey)
  10. laursen and mellberg without a shadow of a doubt cahill on the bench i'm not a big fan of ridgewell, hes reasonably solid, but lacks pace and gets caught out a lot, cahill will be a different class to him by the time they are both in there primes IMO
  11. i'd rather sign a 5 millionish centre mid like barton/diop and then get smith on loan rather pay a probable 8 mill for keane but still i would love it if he joined, but i would be slightly worried by lack of depth in centre mid
  12. fantastic article that is  somes up a lot of my thoughts on lee good luck lee where ever you go
  13. i'm usually pessimistic i still don't think we can get in europe this season but if we brought 2 more players in, i would be quietly confident of atleast the intertoto cup
  14. smith's the perfect loan can cover as a midfielder and forward, with both areas lacking if we got a centre mid then smith on loan i would be delerious
  15. if villa agreed to do this, and make any sort of official villa shirt without the sponsor logo, our sponsership deal would be significantly less than it would be if every shirt had it. this could affect progress on or off the pitch for our club is it really worth even thinking about having a shirt without a sponser? when lets face it, its for selfish reasons and would only hinder the clubs progress.
  16. 3 million for jagielka plus hendrie but i guess they would demand more considering his nationality diop/tainio/reo coker/barton any of those would be class signings
  17. boyzone, take that and east 17?
  18. Who? Anyway, Etherington for me is a player that was fairly good at CM a couple of years ago. Is he really that good in the real world? Etherington would be a decent squad filler, suprised the hammers are willing to let him go tbh. Maloney could be worth a look but suspect MON is looking elsewhere at the moment. No ta etherington what would be the point? he plays in young and barrys position so we don't need him as a short term player, and hes definatly not good enough for the long term, if we want to be competing in europe
  19. i wouldn't, i would be abit confused to why we've just blown 10 million on a position which looks as though it will be barry's soon enough
  20. that would also be pointless i'm not too bothered whether it would be historic or not, its not like all teams aroudn the world would be envious 'wow aston villa had a sponser off there shirt back in 2007' theres nothing wrong having a nice sponsor in my eyes, it makes the kit less plain and adds more detail to it, plus theres the obvious revenue which could help us buy players, or improve a different part of aston villa.
  21. tainio and carew would do me fine and maybe 1 more player of a smallish cost when asked about tainio MON declined to comment, if he wasn't interested surely he would just say he isn't?
  22. Id rather get the revenue in and have a shirt that doesn't look really plain thanks i think some people need to remember that in order to progress we need to make money, i've seen a lot of talk for instance of lowering tickets prices and now not having a sponsership wheres the money going to come from if we keep cancelling out the clubs income? theres nothing wrong with having a sponsor on the shirt, yes our current one is quite big, but atleast it doesn't make the shirt look plain.
