  1. I simply cannot believe that Randy would appoint Alec McLeish. It would defy all conceivable logic. Two simple factors surely put him out of the running without much pause for thought: 1.He is ex-Blues which means he is a dead man walking before a ball has been kicked. 2. His teams play awful football which has led to two relegations. I can't see it happening, unless RL has lost his marbles....
  2. This man speaks sense. The amount of media claptrap generated over the last week has been embarrassing (for the media).
  3. Glad Bob is not the man. This manager hunt saga is fast turning into a farce though. Just get it sorted Randy.
  4. Even if he was capable of doing so, which is debatable, Villa fans will not give him time to build something great. C'mon, he won't last the season unless we're bothering the top 6, which realistically isn't going to happen.
  5. Made me chuckle, but it's the cold hard truth. How about fallen from where we were a few short seasons ago - challenging for a CL place and domestic trophies, and on the up.
  6. He'd broken the Old Firm stranglehold to win league titles and cups, and beaten Real Madrid to win a European trophy. Those are proper credentials. RM has managed Swansea and Wigan, escaping relegation with the latter by a bawhair.
  7. Yeah very good, well done Randy. However for the sake of argument, you could say that nice guys don't come first. The reality of life is that football isn't a nice industry and maybe we should be a bit more ruthless at times?
  8. Nope, I'm sure he will be the new Mourinho. I'm pretty, pretty sure. So there we have it. Pretty much an admission that you are indeed chatting shite!! Indeed I am, and I'm looking forward to decades of dominance under Roberto.
  9. They are both sports teams with the same owner. Therefore it's legitimate for Villa fans to examine Randy's stewardship of the Browns for clues about how he runs things. It's not a direct comparison, but it's relevant.
  10. Nope, I'm sure he will be the new Mourinho. I'm pretty, pretty sure.
  11. What did Moyes achieve before going to Everton?? What did Villas Boas achieve before managing Porto?? What did Mourinho achieve before managing Porto?? What did Wenger achieve before going to Arsenal?? See where im going with this?? Great, so he's going to be as good as these guys. You've allayed any concerns I might have had.
  12. What the hell are you on about? I'm not criticising them for what might happen. I'm discussing the possible appointment of Martinez and my feelings if that were to happen.
  13. You mean he'll win us the Championship? Oi! I didn't say that!!
  14. Why not? My point is that IF it turns out to be Martinez it will be hugely disappointing given the calibre of manager in the market for a job at the moment. IF that happens, then in my opinion it will be fairly obvious that Randy has downsized his ambition for Aston Villa and wants a man who can work on a downscaled budget.
  15. 'Apparently', which means you dont know, so why speculate?? Speculation and discussion is what this thread is for.
  16. What do you do ?? stick a gun to his head??? You also dont know to what lengths they tried to persuade him. We contacted him "more in hope than expectation" apparently. Doesn't sound like we tried very hard at all.
  17. We should have moved hell and high water to make him realise that becoming manager of Villa was preferable to sitting on his arse for a year. Apparently we contacted him "more in hope than expectation". What does that say about our board's thrusting dynamism??
  18. It's not about 'revolving his life' around Villa (whatever that means). It's about pursuading him that we are a club with ambition who wants to go places, and that we will back him to take us to the next level as we believe he is the man for the job. He was available, and we didn't get him. Huge opportunity lost. Martinez would be a huge punt in the dark with our fingers crossed. The last thing we need at this point in time.
  19. It was up to Randy to convince Ancelotti that taking over Villa at this point in time was the right move for him, instead of 'taking a year off'. If we keep thinking small time like you, we will remain small time.
  20. I'd rather have a manager with a proven track record of winning trophies, than someone with 'potential' who maybe one day will be good, perhaps. This is a massively important appointment at a crucial time for Villa. We can't afford to slip behind any further over the next few years while Martinez realises his potential, or not.
  21. It's obvious who those managers are, and it was up to Randy to convince them to join us. He's failed to do that, and so it looks like we'll end up with Martinez. He may do well with us, but equally he may not. It's a huge risk. He is the cheap option, and Randy's fingers are crossed that he is the answer. No evidence exists to suggest we will challenge for honours under him
  22. Martinez would be a totally underwhelming appointment if it's him, given the calibre of manager that's available out there at the moment. Is he the man to get us into the Champions League? Of course not. He's a man who will agree to work with a limited budget. Martinez would just about sum up our limited ambition as a club, and we will lose our best players (again). The board had the chance to appoint a manager who could have created a real buzz of optimism around the whiole place and perhaps persuaded the better players that their future lay at VP. Dperessing if it's true.
  23. I wonder what blind people 'see'. I watched a tv show where a blind person said he doesn't see blackness, he actually sees nothing at all. Nothing. Freaked me out a bit thinking about it.
