  1. Dull game, but credit where credit's due. As in the Arsenal game, the players showed commitment thoughout, and we came away with an unexpected point.
  2. They may be in the squad but I can't see them even making the bench. They are promising young lads but there are too many others ahead of them. Having said that, if McLeish is seriously looking at Burke, then maybe, just maybe, he is going to play offensively against Liverpool....
  3. The young lads recovered from the Cup disappointment to beat Cardiff City 2-1 at Bodymoor Heath on Saturday. Goalscorers: Bradley Lewis and Callum Robinson.
  4. For my part, I don't focus on youth team results in the sense of it meaning anything in the longer term....I'm just so unmotivated by anything that is happening with the first team that I take shelter in the 'more successful' junior players :? How young is the current bunch? I don't know for certain but I believe that our current Under 18 team is younger than it has been in recent seasons, as is the Reserve team. The Under 18s have several players that are only 15 or 16.
  5. The Reserves went back to the top of the table tonight with a 2-1 win over Swansea City at Bodymoor Heath. Daniel Johnson (MOTM) and Michael Drennan the goalscorers.
  6. Very disappointing ☹ I thought we might have been in for a good Cup run again this season. As Dan Harrison on the OS said: It was a night of missed opportunities for Tony McAndrew's fledgling side, who failed to capitalise on a series of bright openings before being stunned by a moment of brilliance from the home side. Full report Team: Barrett; Webb, Donacien, Lewis, Bateman (Serrano de la Cruz 84); Graham, Melvin (Darkin 78 ), Ward (Drennan 67), Grealish; Burke, Robinson. Substitutes not used: B. Watkins, Bryan.
  7. Great three points, but we never make it easy do we? Bolton are dead certs for the drop. The jury is still out on Aston Villa.
  8. Back to winning ways for the young lads after three defeats on the trot. An away win, 3-1, at Milton Keynes sets us up nicely for the FA Cup 3rd Round match at Brighton on Tuesday. Callum Robinson (2) and Graham Burke scored the goals against the Dons.
  9. Nobody seems to have noted that the Reserves went down 2-0 at Chelski on Monday night (5th Dec). Report on the OS Team: Siegrist; Webb, Donacien, Williams, Kinsella; Graham (Grealish 71), Johnson, Carruthers, Cameron; Burke (Caira 74), Robinson (Taylor 68 ). Substitutes not used: Barrett, Nelson-Addy.
  10. We lost 3-1 at home (originally scheduled as an away game) to Bristol City on 3 December Connor Taylor with the consolation goal.
  11. Villa beat the Arse 2-0 Report on the OS
  12. The date hasn't been set yet. Marseille still have to play Celtic on 7 December. Technically we could still end up playing Barcelona, but Marseille would have to beat Celtic by 8 goals lol So, yes, we'll be playing Marseille Interestingly Man Citeh lost all 6 of their games in this comp The group tables, results and fixtures may be found here
  13. There is now a report on the OS for the 2-1 home defeat by the Bluenoses
  14. Next scheduled game is away to Bristol City on 3rd Dec.
  15. Brilliant result We've got a great crop of youngsters coming through, and Gary Gardner is a bit special :winkold:
  16. Well I hope I'm wrong, but he's in the same age bracket as Herd, Albrighton, Bannan, etc., but doesn't seem to be showing much sign of breaking into the first team squad on a regular basis. His series of injuries have not helped him, of course...
  17. Was this loss against sha at home? It was originally scheduled as an away game.
  18. Apparently Nathan has gone out on loan today to Millwall for one month. Can only be good for this injury-prone youngster who has seemed to hold some promise...but will probably never make it as a regular first teamer for Villa
  19. Forget about the first team and the useless clueless McLeish. Tonight Villa's Under 19s stand a very good chance of qualifying for the last 8 of the NextGen Series. A draw against Ajax at VP will be enough to take us through Look forward to reports from those of you lucky enough to be able to get to the game
  20. Clueless. What a useless manager McLeish is.
  21. Daniel Crowley? That's a new name on me. What do you know of him, uvillaboys?
  22. No, 4 in a row - he scored a hat trick against MK Dons :winkold: Who said he was dreadful? :|
  23. “A few days after celebrating his first call up for his country, the Aston Villa utility sustained an injury-time ankle injury during Sunday morning’s 3-2 win over Norwich.” News report Why do we make players play in injury time?
  24. We don’t seem to have a proper thread for the Under 19s in the NextGen European mini-Champions League. As this is about the most exciting thing happening at the Villa this season, IMO, I’m belatedly starting one. More info, including match reports, on the NextGen series is here Villa are in Group 3 and currently in second place, a point behind Ajax. Rosenborg and Fenerbahce make up the rest of the group.
