  1. Oxford Street on a Friday night. h/t Louis Goodall
  2. For anybody stuck at home with kids, a 12 month subscription to Disney + (launches in the UK on Tuesday) for £49.99 looks like the best money you'll spend on anything.
  3. After a few years we'd probably find that Battersea Dogs Home had been closed down and sold off for flats.
  4. Now official. The tragedies keep coming. RIP Eurovision 2020.
  5. I'm no expert, but if this goes on for months rather than weeks you'd think that some of these problems have sensible emergency solutions. It seems that it would be silly to have both the crisis of taxi drivers unable to earn due to lack of passengers and the crisis of vulnerable people stuck at home with no means to have supplies delivered. Similarly, airline cabin crew sitting at home panicking about their rent, while hospital managers are worried about who they can find who is first-aid trained who can push a food / medicine trolley around a packed hospital ward...
  6. I'm pretty sure that it's not a choice that will be in your hands for too much longer.
  7. I believe that in Italy they have restricted them to immediate family only.
  8. It's the chickens coming home to roost, particularly for the charlatan in charge. If you've made your entire career out of lying, nobody is all that keen to listen to you when national security depends on people believing what you're telling them. A lie is no longer "clever electioneering" or "a colourful metaphor to illustrate a wider point" when people's lives depend on it. An unserious politician for serious times.
  9. I wonder if someone might want to explain "it only takes one match to burn a thousand trees" to the bloke who wrote the sodding lyric.
  10. And no part of this shared global experience is making you think "actually, all this petty bullshit about who beats the other side at trade and politics really doesn't matter at all"? Not everything in life needs to have winners and losers.
  11. Mate, it's a public forum. Discuss what you want. But don't be surprised when your thread about profits to be made from your coffin investments don't win you much support.
  12. There is definitely a discarded monkey's paw somewhere in an unpacked box in Downing St. and a cackling, wizened mystic somewhere in a Middle Eastern marketplace.
  13. Apologies if it comes off as being a ****, but if it gets really, REALLY bad it might be worth Googling what happened to Britain's pets in 1939. The results aren't nice. Like I say - I don't mean this in a dick way. My 75 year old mother drives across town twice a day to feed her two horses. And if the supposed next step of the plan stops her from doing that, the grief of losing them will probably do for her, let alone the virus risks.
  14. This seems like a good idea: Original source
  15. (posted in a melancholic irony tone, not a political posturing tone)
  16. Calpol, and part-baked bread as well.
  17. Ish. Most of the route is down the A36 and back. The only 18th century street it takes in is Great Pulteney St which is wide enough to land a jumbo jet on. Most people I know who were doing it are staying at home.
  18. But they also advocate hoping that you die before you get old, so I'd be very wary of taking any medical advice that they give at face value.
  19. How is life working in Downing Street?
  20. Unfortunately the Brexit public in your metaphor is the yelling-at-anyone-who-looks-Chinese, stealing-disinfectant-from-hospitals, boycotting-Corona-beer one. And it's not hard to see why they might think that part of society might not act as responsibly in a crisis as might be hoped.
  21. No offence, but if we're six weeks into a global pandemic and you're running round 15 public pharmacies looking for disinfectant for your business, somebody in your company probably dropped the ball a good while back.
  22. Yes, preventing other people in your community from keeping themselves free of the virus is definitely the way to stop a pandemic killing people around you.
